Ep4 - first part was terrible, the second was the best so far.
The first part of this episode was so incredibly unrealistic that I've struggled to get through it.
A cell with no guard to keep an eye on Javier, a dangerous threat to the whole community.
Gabe running around Richmond like a fairy, knowing his ways and successfully avoiding all the guards, and by the way, being completely alone? I wonder whose idea it was. The group knows Gabe's tendency to screwing things up and they sent him anyway... I understand that we had to have a nice bonding moment with Gabe but this was not a right way to do this.
They chatter away like in a fancy cafe. Loudly. In the middle of the night. Guards apparently don't care.
That armory door. St Johns had a better lock on their chamber of secrets, and it was just a barn.
How come no one heard the rumor caused by bashing a fire extinguisher on the door when clearly it should be "more people inside"?
Javi uses his wounded arm to drag the body inside the closet.
Gabe and Ava hang at the door of Lingard's office for half of an hour without checking on Javi, who could've passed out or something. They literally just sat there, talking about laser guns.
Kenny's talking about Duck again.
Ava made it just in time to catch up with Clementine and at the same time, she managed to grab a full duffel bag for Clem along with AJ's drawing. Was she standing over him saying "hurry up with that crayons I must go after ya momma", or something, or I just got this whole scene wrong?
Things get interesting as soon as Gabe let his babbler loose and tell Tripp about Conrad.
Hub exploring was a nice moment, starting the truck was fun and the scene even had logic in it. I could finally tell Kate that I'm not interested in her. The finale and the big choice was really well done and I have to say, I had trouble picking up between Tripp and Ava; didn't know what to do for the first time this season. Everyone behaved properly and in their characters, especially David with his shooting tactic.
The first part of Thicker Than Water is 3/10 for me (for the flashback); the second is 8/10.
Comments
Well that can change to Kate if you left with Kate last episode instead of agreeing with David's plan.
I agree with this. The first part was a bit meh but the second was good.
I do wonder though...
Do you ship Gabentine now? After Episode 4 (and seeing how Clem was happy and had a friend to talk to)... I kinda ship Gabentine now.
I do not ship Gabentine but I'm okay with Clem having a friend to talk and play cards with, as long as it's not a strip poker.
Whole episode was a filler ( Not the final part, of course ), seriously, what's up with telltale writers? Dude, even when being a filler the episode is 1:20 hours long. I thought this whole episode was gonna be something bigger, a true war or something, but you know, telltale is doing what they do best: Killing the villain ( Joan determinant ) in less than 10 minutes so they can pull off the random zombie horde strategy for last episode. I'll never understand the forum's standards thinking that this is the best TWD episode ever made or something.
I must admit that at least the flashbacks are good, especially Kenny's with a lot of mentions and things that remember us that Season 1 and 2 actually existed.
And their models don't look like shit anymore, it was a smart move by telltale. The irony is that those flashback proves that a season focused on our endings would be really interesting, a real S3.
Also the "No you don't know what it's like, not really, you make a split seconds decision and you have to life with it forever" part was pretty much copy paste of what Lee said to Kenny in the drug store after the kid dies on Hershels farm in season 1, oh and let's not forget about the stitching thing, whelp we need a reason for Javi and Clem to meet up in the doctors office, oh I know! Gabe acts retarded and Jon Dildoface stabs Javi with a knife, these fucking writers man... Lazy, lazy, lazy.
It's now resolved to baiting (Clem increased screen-time, models improved, small personal development, Shipping;cause why not etc.) and the majority are falling for it.
Somehow all it took was for one semi-decent episode, after five disappointing episodes, to redeem the entire series's writing.
Yeah, that sort of wound would be quite serious - it was deep and bled profusely so it needed stitches - it wasn't a small cut or a bruise and what are the odds that the knife was clean. Clementine went for stitching straight away without cleaning the wound and how can we be sure that needle was sanitized. Also, I like how she tells Javi not to steal but they clearly stole a bandaid to cover up the injury.
It's all just very convenient writing, but I hate to say it was still a lot better than the first episodes.
The Clem scenes overshadow Javier's story. Every Clem scene was goddamn perfect in my opinion. Javier's story in this episode was still... eh except the ending (which I found quite nice). We think this is the best TWD episode THIS season only (that's probably due to how bad Ep1-3 were so people including me lowered their expectations tremendously). I liked it because Clem felt kinda important in this episode and she had good scenes. The Kenny flashback almost made me tear up. Obviously it's still worse than S1 and S2 but it's a sign they're learning.
No, it does not redeem ANF or Telltale but I appreciate choices mattering more for once and them listening to us for once (hubs even though they're still not as good as S1, more Clem, etc).
I agree, this episode is good because of the ending, but it's still not enough to balance the whole season.
Gee, thanks for that mental image. Even if I am curious about what both look like without their trademark hats.
Yeah, that was pretty stupid.
To be fair, he is relatively small and he does literally walk up to the guard of the armory and distract him, so it's possible that no one who might've seen him thought much of him due to being David's kid.
Yeah, that is weird considering Kelvin was in the building. Unless the noise was why he came in first place, that is.
Noticed that immediately.
Believe or not, that's one of the reasons why I thought we were gonna get a callback to Luke and Jane for a minute.
Lol, CinemaSins?
How about the fact that she was rustling in the bushes(or taking a piss from the actual sound of it), but was hiding behind two boulders?
I think the opposite is true. The first half was good, but in the second half it just got shitty.
To be honest I was pretty impressed with Gabe for what he did this episode, but him snitching on Javi ruined it for me.
People seem to be complain about it but it seems to me that the first part was a result of fan feedback saying there's too much action and not enough dialogue.
Gabe's arc could be impressive, but the story wasn't realistic at all.
I think I can agree with this to an extent. I enjoyed the second half enough while watching it, but certain aspects of it started to bug me after the fact. Gabe non-determinately(and pointlessly) spilling the beans is one of em.
