So I guess Wellington never mattered. I wanted to learn more about it and Telltale didn't give a shit about it but Kenny and Jane.
Someone said Edith was credited for the episode but I never paid any attention. Its dumb she wasn't in it when Kenny and Jane were!
.
HA! Kenny ending was better than Wellington after all.
Jk, it really sucks that Wellington doesn't get a flashback, even though I didnt have that one.
I don't really see what they could do. That whole flashback was basically showing when Clem was happy thenn transitioning to her lowest point. There really wasn't anyone in Wellington that Clementine had an emotional connection with.
As much as I hate to say it, I think the only reason the Kenny/Jane flashbacks happened was because of how pissed people were. The Wellington and alone endings, on the other hand, didn't really attract peoples' ire the same way Kenny and Jane's did.
Ergo, it probably wasn't in the plan for there to be a second Kenny/Jane flashback, until they realized how badly the first flashbacks rolled over with people.
Hypothetically, if Kenny and Jane got good send-offs, these flashbacks most likely wouldn't have happened, and we'd have skipped right to the Ava flashback.
Good point. Glad I didn't change my choice with Kenny.
Surely she would have more of an emotional connection with Edith than Jane? She knew Edith for longer
I suppose you could force a positive relationship with them but the player knew Edith for around five minutes. A flashback with her would've been unlikely to have an emotional impact on us.
She did have AJ there though, as shown in the first flashback..
Edith's dad was very sad. This reminded me to Lori from the comics.
I think it was a missed chance to show us Edith showing Clementine around Wellington and to finally see the inside of it. It could've started with Clem walking in it after Kenny leaves, Edith telling her she's sorry but that hopefully they'll be able to accept him someday, and it would end with Clem in her new container-bedroom (shown in the ep1 flashback) holding Kenny's hat firmly in her hands. It would've been amazing.
This would be cool in episode 5
It was definitely fan-service, and thank fuck for that.
It would've been nice to actually see more than one room of the place Christa and Kenny worked so hard to get Clem to.
Eh, you know I've been mulling it over for most of the day, and I think the flashbacks do tie into the narrative to some degree, or at least, the themes this episode was trying to explore-- family... what it really means, and the importance it has to a person. One constant between both flashbacks is how they involve Kenny/Jane talking about how good Clementine is with AJ, that Rebecca would be proud, and all that, more or less reinforcing the importance of the relationship between her and AJ, how there's essentially a familial bond between the two. Like it or not, AJ clearly acts as a huge motivator for Clementine as a person throughout the season, and given everything she's lost, it makes sense-- AJ's the last bastion for her, the last person she still has left that she can truly consider family. After having it literally ripped away from her, and then learning he's still alive, she's found a purpose again; she's got a goal she will do just about anything to achieve.
Going along with that, they both emphasize the concept of family-- Kenny talks about his, and how important having people around is, and more specifically, how important it is to have people around that you can call family. Jane also has... something similar, although in her flashback it's a bit more obtuse, given her aloofness and lone wolf persona. And finally, both end with Clementine talking about how as long as they're together, everything will be alright. The rest of it is more or less personalized fluff (which is fine by me, people deserve more Kenny/Jane depending on their endings), but I think there was a core theme the flashbacks were trying to reinforce, even if they didn't make the message as clear as they could have. I'm starting to think they actually weren't really out of place... just that the message they were trying to convey came through a bit muddy.
...holy hell, I think episode 4's writing might just be a bit more complex than we're giving it credit for.
Guess you are right. Usually I'm not a fan of "fanservice", but it was desperately needed here after the horrible treatment of Kenny/Jane at the beginning of this season. Telltale will never be able to completely fix the damage in trust they've caused by the first flashbacks.. but with these new flashbacks they did the best they could to "kinda make up for it".
