What should I do? (Spoilers)

I loved this episode, but I chose to save Tripp because he's my favourite npc this season, but he died anyway, and he died mad at me over Conrad (even though I never got the chance to tell him the truth before anyway). I then shot Joan straight away because of that.

However now I'm thinking a) I want real closure and pay off with his character, not just that 180* shock factor death, and b) I want an antagonist I'm actually rooting against for the finale, instead of just some gardener whose barely said five lines to me.

So I feel like I should save Ava, and accept the deal, but then that's such a radical change and I hate changing my choices. Also, it would suck hearing David go on about how I didn't kill Joan... or how Tripp is even more mad since I wanted him to die, although he still ends up covering you I watched online.

I'm just a mess on what to think and feel and do. Any advice?

  • Copy your save file to another one and go with the choices that you didn't make last time.

  • Oh I've used all the save slots already to see what happens with other choices, but I'm talking about what I should do with my main save file, like my canon one which I will use when episode 5 comes out.

  • I think for your 'canon' save file you shouldn't be making judgments with hindsight.

Do what you want obviously, but for me I'd stick with what decision I made in the moment. Like, I want to have my playthrough have Conrad in it (having learned how interesting he is afterwards), but I killed him so my 'canon' play he stays dead.

No offense here, but closure on what?

    b) I want an antagonist I'm actually rooting against for the finale, instead of just some gardener whose barely said five lines to me.

Yeah, admittedly, I'm curious to see what they're gonna do with him in the finale since he was pretty generic in his debut despite his contribution to the New Frontier's existence.

None taken, I just meant in terms of his character arc and our relationship as a whole. Like, we went from bros the whole game to him saying he never wanted to see him Javier again, to 'oh he saved me over his brothers lieutenant lady, that's something at least, oh and I'm dead.'

It just doesn't sit right with me. I wanted to see whether Tripp would actually go over to the side of Richmond and fight Javier, or whether he'd actually forgive him. Instead, he just gets taken out because Joan was trolling, and she dies seconds later anyway (well for me).

Yeah we've basically got no relationship with Clint beyond knowing that he, unlike Joan, is genuinely interested in peace and order... and is actually sort of decent as person. But that's hardly the foreboding enemy that is the stuff of finales, that you look forward to going up against. There must be more to this ranch place than Lingard suggested.

But yeah that's my whole problem, really, my favourite npc of the season is dead, as is the only character that was serving as a villain, so I'm now just more confused about how the finale will be, than excited. Hopefully this all makes sense.

  • No replaying, stick to your choices. I wanted to change my playthrough as well but it would be pointless after that. I might replay everything once the season is finished, but not now, let's keep it consistent and real.
