Who is the most tragic character of the season?
- David. A man of pride of and honour. His virtues are often overshadowed by his temper. He lost his first wife before the apocalypse. His marriage with Kate was badly damaged before the ZA, but now he learns of his brother's betrayal. During the ZA, he lost half of his family (Rafael, Hector, Mari, Ms Garcia), saw his dad reanimating after dying, as well as his permadeath, forced to kill/abandon his zombified mother. Unfortunately, things got even worse, as he was overthrown and nearly killed by Joan. Since Ava was executed, he is left with just Gabe.
- Tripp. A man with a golden beard and a golden heart. His community was nuked by NF, his friend was killed by Javi and his heart broken by Eleanor. He drowned in his blood.
- Lingard. A man who has lost his hope, lover and best friend. A shadow of himself due to his addiction. No longer willing to live.
I pick David. Who would you choose and why?

David is the most tragic to me. You can tell he never really had a lot of confidence and that things in life are really starting to pile on. Then his new friends and family at TNF all turn on him and set him up except for Ava, and then she dies too. Next time is him finding out that his brother and wife are a thing.
I'd say Lingard since unlike the others he has nothing left to live for with all hope gone and the only way to numb the pain is to drug himself to near unconsciousness. And the fact that he's gotten to the point where hea actively requesting for people to kill him is pretty sad.
Conrad guys already lost his kid and now has lost his Gf and his home he pretty much has nothing left.
Definitely David. I can't imagine the pain. He thought his family died and all the sudden he finds out they're alive and he's missed his chance to be with them. Must be an enormous amount of guilt to take on at once.
Also, Clementine. All she's been through already plus AJ's taken away from her. Everyone she's ever cared about died. AJ was the last memory of the past which kept her sane and pushed her to fight. And now he's gone and from what we know, he might be dead. Clementine is only 13 and she's been fighting since she was 8 years old. I don't think she can do it much longer without Alvin. At least not with the same mentality of a caring and sweet girl she once was.
Gotta go with David. His wife was already plotting on finding someone younger to be with that would saddle her with less responsibility before the zombie apocalypse gave her an excuse, all of which happening as he watched his father die and likely stood by his mothers side as she died soon afterwards. By the time he makes it home after all of this, everyone in his family is gone. 4 years later when he finally reunites with them, the first thing Kate wants to do is the same thing she wanted to do before, run off with Javier, he finds out that his daughter is dead and that Gabe isn't.
This man has not had an easy go of it.
Conrad because he had both his community and loved ones die. Plus if you kill him in the tunnel he never has the chance to avenge Francine by killing Badger.
David and Lingard are tied for first place, if you ask me.
David's someone who spent a good portion of his pre-apocalypse life living in the shadow of his younger brother, living a life he doesn't really want, is in a failing marriage, and has a family that he doesn't entirely know how to look out for. To make things even worse, he gets cut off from his family, forced to deal with his bitten mother, and ends up assuming the worst in regards to the rest of his family. Then one day, he learns they're alive... except for his daughter, who to make things even worse, actually survived... but ended up dying anyways. Then not long afterwards, he learns that the people he's come to trust in the form of Joan and others from Richmond have been going behind his back, ordering raids on various communities. And what happens when he tries to do the right thing and expose the corruption? It all gets flipped on him, one way or the other. And then, after all that, he has to deal with the potential betrayal by his own brother AND wife, and even later on loses one of his closest allies, executed by Joan.
If anything, he's probably more justified in having anger issues than even Kenny does. He's practically been getting dealt shitty hands for over a decade.
And then there's Lingard. An unfortunate caught in the middle of all the death and destruction the apocalypse has caused, who found purpose and hope again in the form of David. Then he goes on to bear witness to all of the backstabbing and corruption within Richmond, and thus falls further into addiction as a form of escape; trying to numb himself to everything going on around him. But even that proves to not be enough. Lingard pretty much checked out a long time ago, and the only person that was able to give him hope was taken away and pretty much doomed to death. Like David, he's someone that has kept getting dealt shitty hands in life. But unlike David, he's someone that simply can't take it anymore, to the point where he's looking for any excuse to die, including bribing someone into ending his life. Oh yeah, and the cherry on top of this crapcake? If you kill him, something that could be seen as a mercy, Joan just uses his corpse to further push her agenda. Guy couldn't catch a break, even in death.
Conrad gets an honorable mention– his home gets destroyed, his lover gets killed, and as a result, he becomes so consumed with revenge that he ends up going to extreme lengths in an attempt to assure it, which determinantly results in his death when he tries to use Clementine as a bargaining chip and taking Gabe hostage. Javier sums it up well– he wasn't a bad guy, the situation both him and the rest got into was just fucked.
I'd have to say Dr. Lingard by default.
Most of the other characters are pretty well off, all things considered, though it's apparent that Conrad, Ava, Gabe, and maybe Eleanor could count to a lesser degree. It's pretty refreshing actually.
Mariana. Didn't even get to have a long enough life to experience as much as she could.
Definitely David. I feel for him, and he doesn't even know what went down with Javi and Kate yet. He isn't a bad guy, just a little hot-headed. I hope he survives episode 5 although i find that very unlikely. At the very least, I hope he'd be determinant.
Good analysis.
In the game, Lingard because he is suicidal and really hates his life of being in the new frontier.
For the community, Gabe because nobody likes him only because his hormones make him angry and act out, it is just sad that nobody understands him.
Lingard. David too but, unlike Lingard, he still has things to fight for and the will to do it. Lingard has lost everything he cared about (since he thinks David is gone too), has taken too many punches and simply can't deal with it anymore. He kept falling further into his addiction as a means of escaping, to numb himself to everything going around, and it all reaches a point where he becomes suicidal.
What makes it all the more tragic is that he seems like a good person who could do great things (him being a doctor and all). I found it really freaking sad how such a person is driven to a point where he tries to bribe someone to end his life.
I hope he can have a reunion with David in Ep.5 and find something to care about again.
