Gabe was very poorly written

Gabe. A lot of people hate this character, yes i kinda understand them, but does his behavior really make sense? Like if you've survived five years in an apocalypse wouldn't you have turned into a badass by now? Like what the heck!? He's been five years into a horrible hard world and he hasn't gotten used to it by now? HOW? how did Clementine turn into an absolute badass but neither him nor mari have turned at least a little bit tough? C'mon telltale, don't give me this bullsh*t. Please write below what you guys think of this.

it's because Gabe always been in that van and he's really never been alone for the apocalypse and always had people to rely on unlike Clem who had to rely on herself to stay a live.

  • Clem turned into a badass because she had Lee, obviously :3 she also had the boat master Kenny and the suicide queen Jane. But then she ended up alone, which hardened her and gave her a lot of experience on how to survive better. Whereas Gabe was always shielded by Javier and Kate, not letting him getting into too much danger. This was determinantly said by javi in episode 1 when he said he tried to keep his family out of trouble the best he could. So technically, Gabe was not given as much free will as clementine has been or allowed to get into much trouble.

  • Just because he's a dumbass doesn't mean he's poorly written. People don't like him because he's an idiot

  • Gabe throwing me under the bus is bad writting cause he told me to shoot Conrad and he immediately blames me.

Just because he's a dumbass doesn't mean he's poorly written. People don't like him because he's an idiot

  • Gabe's a moody teenager, like all of us were (or are). He struggles with a lot of emotions at once, plus he's got many symptoms of ADHD or just hypersensitivity in general. Him spilling the beans was a very memorable and well-written part of this season, as it's completely in-the-character and fits the scene.

Tripp and Eleanor had to find out the truth about Conrad in one way or another, so Gabe letting the cat out of a bag was more natural and realistic than Javi suddenly going: "hey, by the way, that guy Conrad? I killed him back in that tunnel and basically lied to you. So, you angry or what?".

It's not that I don't like him as a character. I just don't like the way his character is written. I feel like if some of his dialogues had more meaning to them he'd be easier to connect with.

For instance, when he says in Episode 1 "I'm in a bad mood okay? I want it to go away, but I can't help it." He could've just said "I didn't mean to give Kate such a hard time before. It's just...I'm just so frustrated about being on the road for so long."

Another example: Episode 3 when Javi chooses to go with Kate he says "He's my Dad, I can't lose him again." He could've said something even MORE impactful. Case in point "My father may be an asshole, but he's STILL my father...my family. I need to take good care of my family. It's what you taught me."

  • haha true. he musta been sheltered af

  • I know, right?

I don't really get the whole "How did X get this far into the apocalypse?" complaint that gets tossed around like salad. Like, maybe if a character was rock stupid to a lethal degree, then sure, but it honestly just comes off as a bitter hyperbole of "Why does this [non-badass] character [I don't like] exist?."

The reason Gabe and Mariana were still around acting the way they do is Javier and Kate's spoiling and training: they were constantly on the move and the implications of them splitting up in the junkyard suggests that they're always on a leash with the adults more or less playing favorites.

  • At least he's well-written enough for me to hate him.

  • So, practically kate and javi are bad parents, cause they spoiled them? yeah, makes sense too

  • I totally agree with this.

I think Gabe is an awesome character.

  • This may hard to believe but living in the apocalypse doesn't automatically make you a badass incapable of making mistakes.

  • Case in point: Clem accidentally killed Eli the Arms dealer back in Prescott, and got Javi and herself locked up.
So yea. That's what I've BEEN saying from the BEGINNING. Nobody's invincible. Well...except Jesus (Paul), but that's besides the point.

  • he is retarded like sarah

  • Not really. I don't think there's any such thing as a perfect parent and if there is, it's very rare and very fortunate. Javier and Kate aren't their real parents, just two relatives doing the best they can with the hand they've been dealt: Thicker than Water further confirmed several of my suspicions that while they did receive some training, they aren't the most capable due to their size, age, and the fact they've fallen into a safe routine that kept them as separated from actual danger as much as possible, leaving them a bit rusty.

So, practically kate and javi are bad parents, cause they spoiled them? yeah, makes sense too

  • I don't mind him too much. But I can see where people are coming from. Sarah in season 2 drove me nuts. As soon as there was an option to kill her I took it instantly, her screams of terror were all the more satisfying. Such an annoying character.

  • Gabe's not even the one on his period and he's the most bitchy out of any of them

  • I do agree with that and dislike him greatly for throwing me under the bus

  • Will you ever stop saying shit like that? You're not making any sense.

  • He's a poorly written idiot, then again that goes for most characters this season.

Just because he's a dumbass doesn't mean he's poorly written. People don't like him because he's an idiot

  • A rather unfair comparison, don't you think?

Plus, I don't think that word means what you think it means.
