*Spoilers* Ep. 4 and Ep. 5 AJ in the story.
Hey everybody, let's talk about AJ and his purpose in the story. Wellll maybe just his role in the story for this finale coming up. So, I know we are all wondering what the hell is going to happen. It's hard to think of things that would be able to top The first and second season finales. We are getting to this quick, i'm surprised this is the final episode. Anyways, I wanted to talk about David, AJ, Clem, and Javi. How are they going to tie everything together and bring Clementines story to completely fold into Javier's. I noticed some things in the game that may point to things to come.
In Episode 3 David revealed to us that AJ was still alive and is out there, he also told us that Lingard took charge of looking after him.
But in Episode 4 it is revealed by Lingard that David took personal watch over AJ and that he was somewhere nearby, can't remember the name of the location.
Why do Javi and Clem not take notice of this inconsistency with David's words? I have no idea why, maybe the writers would hope we weren't paying attention.
This is hypothetical but what if David couldn't take care/save AJ and covered his tracks for the time being by saying Lingard knew, But from what Lingard said, David should know where he is. I think Lingard told us where AJ's grave was, He could have died in David's stead. It's not a lot of credence to this but in the flashback from the beginning of Episode 4, David says to Javi, detrimentally, "What the hell do you know about raising kids Javi?" Coming from a Man just saying how he should leave to the army and abandon them. That got me thinking, Javi managed to take care of Mariana and Gabe for 4 years in to the apocalypse, while David left them thinking they were dead. He eventually got AJ from Clem and his shortcomings as a father proved and AJ could have been killed under his watch.
This could bring the stories together in the sense that Clementine would definitely want to Kill David, she's not our PC anymore and I think they will just have her hate him, honestly how could she not? David saying "It's hard grieving for the same person twice, it's like losing something you didn't know you had." lends some credence to this.
Who knows how this will all play out, just wanted to bring some of those details in that people may have missed, feel free to elaborate on this theory or share your thoughts below please! I'm excited to see how they wrap this pinata up!!! Thanks for the read, sorry it was so long winded!

I fully believe that this is where things are headed as well, great job laying it all out.
I mean, when David said that AJ is alive, Clementine literally had a gun to his head. He had just reunited with his son and wife and there is obviously bad blood and zero trust between the two of them in the first place. He was saying whatever he had to, to save his skin in the moment. Also, who leaves a toddler in the care of a junkie in the first place? For that matter who puts a junkie in charge of a community's well being and medicine stock?
It will be sad for Clem, but i can't say i've ever been a fan of AJ, so i would be content to see it go like this. Just for the simple fact that Clem wont feel as though it was of her doing that he died, at least not fully anyways. If he died while under her care, i think that might actually break Clem, and i really don't want that at all. But that line David says about grieving twice, that is some awesome foreshadowing if this is all true. Hopefully we will find out this month
Clem already grieved AJ's death I think she is already prepared to accept anything.
Being prepared to accept something, and having it happen are two different things.
Accepting that AJ died on someone elses watch and she'll never see him again or get to say goodbye - and being unable to protect him in the flesh, right in front of her, dying in her arms. Those are two completely different things.
Thank you both for your inputs! I Agree, I definitely think they are setting something big up
Asides. If the promotion art is true, then we should see AJ alive.
Also Joan says how they lost kids and she looks at David, then he gets sad
When does she say that?
I think I remember, good job pointing it out!!
If you bring back Max with you as proof that she was raiding other settlements she says something among the lines of: "You all remember the winter....we lost lovers (Looks at Lingard), Friends (Looks at Clint), Children (Looks at David)
this is interesting nut it kinda made me sad but if he does die than i will have to accept it
Determinantly.
when joan was talking with david and javi she said we lost children and david looked sad and when he said greiving for the same person twice maybe he was referring to his own kids i mean come on he thought they died and maybe he kept aj because he reminds him of gabe and mariana that aj was his second chance
I like it. It also gives this parallel to David's story: in the beginning, David loses Mari and she dies, and then, Clem loses AJ and he dies. It's kinda simple and bold, and I definitely hope AJ is alive for AJ's and Clem's sake, but it's still believable.
