KENNY FACE OFF

Which Kenny do you like more? The season 1 Kenny OR the season 2 Kenny?

Comments

  • Man this is a tough one. Both are boss but i'm gonna say season 1 just by a little.

  • I prefer the Season 1 Kenny; he was more grounded and had more nuance. However, the scene in Episode 202 where you are first reintroduced to him was pretty fantastic, I will say.

  • Season 1, in part cause he actually belonged and had a rightful place there.

  • Season 1 because he hadn't yet downgraded from paranoid to insane.

    I LIKE BOTH

  • I really love both, but season 1 even tho season 1 Kenny was more annoying

  • S1 Kenny for sure.

  • S2, I actually agreed with him on a few things in S2. Basically disagreed with everything he did in S1, but rebelling against tyranny (Carver) and believing people willing to kill others for self gain deserve to be treated like dirt (Arvo) were completely in line with my own beliefs.

Season one Kenneth blows season two out of the water for me.

  • Season 2

  • I think season 1 Kenny is better intergrated to the story. I found season 2 Kenny to be a better character though. In season 1 he's just some guy who craps all over you if u don't agree with him every time. In season 2 he benefits from having a background you've witnessed with him. You know the loss he's experienced so when he's being an a**hole u know why.

  • Season 2. He takes over Lee's role as Clem's guardian and I think his character improved in both role and personality. He turned into a somewhat apocalyptic Big Boss, which was epic.

  • To be fair, Arvo was never actually planning to kill anyone--hell, even Buricko(as far as I can tell at least) just seemed to wanna rob the group on a whim and presumably go about their business. I think the point about Kenny's paranoia about him was more that Arvo and Jane were the reason that scenario happened in the first place and a series of misunderstandings nearly got both groups killed and Arvo being one of them meant he could potentially kill them as well. The fact that he already lost Sarita thanks to Tavia and ended up allowing Rebecca to die was ultimately the real fuel for that fire.

  • Season 1 was perfectly written for him. He felt more human and flawed than any other character. His Season 2 version was ok but lacked what Season 1 had. Ep4 and 5 though they just overdid his character and pushed a lot of people into hating him which I didn't fall for or agree with.

  • season 2 Kenny he was too annoying in season 1 for me.

  • Season one is my bro my pal my friend my boy for ever.
I am not fan of season 2 kenny.

  • Season 2 Kenny. That speech he gave at the end was amazing. It won me over. That said, season 1 Kenny was damn good as well.

Apologies for the multiple edits. Gifs didn't work for some reason lol. This is the sort of ending we want but can no longer have due to the lack of attachment to season 3 characters

  • Season 1, even though I didn't like the guy I still had respect for him. S2 he just snapped and I could say that I hated his guts.

  • I love Kenny in general. Doesn't matter what timeframe, I will always love him equally.

I would probably have to say Season 1 Kenny, due to how his arc wraps up so nicely in Ep5; This to me was better emphasised towards the end of Starved For Help, where players who chose not to kill Larry, and were unable to see a brave Kenny fighting Danny in the barn, who would then by Ep5 have felt a more profound effect once seeing him sacrificing himself for Lee. It not only developed his character further for both types of players, but it gave him his most justified and heroic death at the time, and still to this day for Kenny fans in my opinion. However Season 2 wasn't lacking to me either character wise. In some ways made him more interesting to me. Many exchanges with Clementine, as well as his constant selflessness and his need to inflict retribution for the groups safety (similar to his drive to protect his family in S1), made him a more complex character with the many nuances throughout in his actions, especially towards the end of the season for me. The scene in the tent where Clementine can choose to tell Kenny she had to shoot Lee, and that he wasn't the only one to lose people was a great long lasting scene, due to how it showed further layers for both Clementine and Kenny, as well as the emotional conflict it creates (when Kenny storms out the tent in angst), the argument there showing a more stripped down emotional side to these characters, that creates a more engaging finale as it makes the players care even more to what happens to them.

  • Both. Season One Kenny was a family man and then his world was shattered into pieces in one day. Then in the finale.. when he pushed away Lee and sacrificed himself.. "only" to put Ben out of his misery. Ben, who was indirectly responsible for Duck and Katja's death and suffered from Kenny's anger before. That shows what a good guy Kenny actually is. Can't say the same about me, since I would've abandoned Ben for sure.

Then in Season Two, he had recovered but got broken - again. The second time probably was even harder than the first. But Kenny still had this protective instinct inside him. Kenny's ending in S2 only continued to develop his awesome character. To me personally, it was even more heart-wrenching than Season One's ending, the goodbye between Lee and Clementine. S2 Kenny also got that awesome beard and led to the S3/ANF flashbacks which showed how Kenny became a beloved family member the same way Lee did.

  • This never gets old. Telltale at its best.

  • Season 3 Kenny. Ohhhh!!!! Savage right?

  • Man I still remember when I first watched this. It was just as emotional as the season 1 ending for me, which is pretty amazing considering season 1 in general was a lot longer and had a better, more developed story.

  • Agreed! In some ways it was harder to watch for me because if choosing to stay in Wellington, Kenny's fate is uncertain where at least we knew what was happening with Lee at the end of Season 1. I stayed with him anyway in my original play through but after the insulting and disrespectful way they killed him off in the first S3 flashback, I went back and stayed in Wellington.

  • Well, they were living off of Season 1's material, so it better have.

  • Season One Kenny edges out Season Two Kenny by just a small margin for me. S1 was so well done towards showing his motivations as well as the depths of how this new world of horrors could change someone. I'm not sure any other character showed that so clearly in TWD games than he did in the series, and it didn't shy away from him making some poor choices because of what he'd been through - it showed how our emotions could darken and lash out at those around us rather than keeping him heroic all of the time which is a troupe a lot of characters can fall into.

Season Two Kenny at the gates of Wellington is utterly heartbreaking. Up until this moment, S2 Kenny for me felt more like fan service. The 'Got-Lucky' Kenny was a funny if unbelievable break in the narrative, but the ending in S2 showcased the writers could pull off an emotional ending equal to if not topping S1. Clementine was fortunate enough to have two men briefly in her life willing to sacrifice everything for her best chance. How many people are ever that lucky?

  • That was Gavin Hammon hard at work.
"That don't have to look at you... and feel ashamed at what they've put you through..."
    That is damn powerful.

  • That's true as well. Lot of references and callbacks to season 1.

The choice to stay in Wellington or leave was one of the hardest decisions of any choice i had to make but that line right there is the moment i knew I couldn't leave the guy. I am not ashamed to admit that i broke down in tears after he said that. The way Gavin said it was great but also it told me that this was Kenny's way of telling Clem of his regret and shame of every single bad thing he ever did that Clem had witnessed or been apart of. It was a special moment and one i can't see them ever recreating

  • Yeah, I also think with this sentence he wasn't just referring to the occurances of S2, but also S1. The whole journey. That's what makes it so powerful for me.
And yeah, I teared up a lot during that Wellington scene.
