  • Does Clementine count?

  • Ava, Kate, Gabe, Conrad, and I haven't really decided on #5, but it's likely either Max, Joan, or Dr. Lingard.

Feel free to inquire of me!

    1. Clementine
    2. Javier
    3. David
    4. Conrad
  • Why do you like Joan?

  • Clem, for obvious reasons. David because he's not only Javi's brother, but he's suited as a divisive character who can offer an interesting alternative to Tripp, Eleanor and the rest.

Ava was also really cool, even though Joan snatched her away :( I really enjoyed how she tried to build a rapport with Clem, and she really was a levelheaded survivor that could hold her own. She also seemed to have the ability to be David's moral compass at times and wasn't afraid to show compassion when she needed to.

The rest of them? I didn't really care that much.

  • This is my top 5:

    1. David
    2. Javier
    3. Gabe
    4. Tripp
    5. Kate

Clem, Javier, Kate, Conrad, Gabe, Max, Clint, David and Ava. Those are my favorites.

All the others are either meh or disliked by me.

  • I'm mixed to positive on her, to be honest.

  • She ordered the death of communities full of innocent people and children, she is the reason Mariana is dead and she killed Ava/Tripp for no good reason. Even if you didn't feel attached to them, they didn't have anything to do with her problems. I don't see a good reason to like a selfish bitch who has no humanity on herself.

  • Clementine is first because she's one of my favorites from all of TWD
    Javier is 2nd
    David is 3rd
    Tripp is 4th
    Mari is 5th.

  • Not including Clementine, AJ, Jane, Edith or Kenny for obvious reasons.

    1. Mariana
    2. Kate
    3. Eleanor
    4. Ava
    5. Joan
  • Clementine, David, Lingard, Kenny. Kenny and Lingard really don't get much screen time, but screw it.

  • Sorry, had to edit the rest of my explanation outside this thread:

On hand, I liked her back in Above the Land because she seemed like a well-intentioned Korean(?) lady whose endorsement of Badger's behavior was borne of out of old wounds of "The Winter" event, a HUGE step up from the Walker Texas Ranger Villain in a Lifetime Movie the previous Season gave us. I really liked that we finally had a villain in the main series that isn't just "Evil/Sick White Man #12," that she actually has a sympathetic backstory and motivation to engage in her villainous activities, and that her formal behavior seems legitimate among a bunch of lawful thugs, which helped give the New Frontier that much more depth. Though I am still curious as to why she felt outright destroying other communities(in the event that that wasn't just what Badger decided to do to Prescott on a whim) was an acceptable means to her well-intentioned ends.

On the otherhand, I was admittedly a little fuzzy about her portrayal in Thicker than Water, where she's more openly villainous. For what it's worth, her more cold ham-esque, almost bitchy dialogue and that climactic choice she presented, which not only led to a brilliant twist but can also definitely be worked with the basic idea of her alignment, did legitimately entertain me enough that I didn't even care that much at the time. However, when looking at the story as a whole, it's a considerable leap from what Above the Law seemed to establish. So right now, one of my biggest concerns going into From the Gallows is that they find a decent way to sew the two portrayals together in a way that makes some sort of sense without feeling [too] cheap.

This mixed feeling also applies to her design: on one hand, her Sweeney Todd hair is pretty distinguishable and the orange & yellow vest pops nicely while also going with her cargo pants and knee-highs. On the other hand, she's somewhere between Gabe and Max in uncanniness, notably due to the fact that I swear her glassy eyes were constantly derping out in her first episode. And the weirdest thing that really tops it off? She's apparently wearing a Christmas Sweater.
    ...K.

So yeah, I'd say I like her to an extent. I hope this answers your question cause this was a hit and run post cause I'm in the middle of something.

    Fuck yeah

  • Perhaps he/she just finds Joan to be an interesting and enjoyable character? Liking somebody doesn't mean you condone their actions.

  • This. I wish Jolene wasn't so distrustful of Lee or don't really like that Michelle tried to rob Clementine at gunpoint, but I liked what they brought to the table otherwise.

    • Dr.Lingard
    • Ava
    • Tripp
    • Conrad
    • David
  • Tripp and David

    • David - Probably one of the most complex characters created to date in TellTale.
    • Dr Lingard - Has a depth of sadness and depression that is well displayed even if not entirely explored
    • Ava - A shame she isn't utilized more, I would've been interested to have seen her story with David
    • Javier - Holds one of the most realistic sibling relationships
    • Mariana - There's something almost young Peter Quill about her relationship with her music, and charming that she'd still put them on long after she'd run out of batteries for it. It's such a nuanced characteristic that makes me wish we'd had more time with her.
  • Out of all of the new characters in this season, the only character that is compelling to me is Ava.

And it's a damn shame that she's now a determinant shortly after she was showing more promise as a solid character than the likes of Tripp and Eleanor. She still has more room for development, considering that we don't really know just how loyal she is to David beyond being willing to help Javier rescue him, and especially since the two aren't seen interacting all that much either.

  • She was clearly pissed when bringing the supplies to the group when they were kicked out by the Council, punches Tripp out for not just backing down and playing along, and tells Javier not to screw this up immediately afterwards.

She immediately gets Javier moving to the Council's meeting place if he bring Kate and Gabe to David's house like they planned without bothering to introduce herself and simply pointing them in.

She also determinately holds Javier and Gabe at gunpoint in the armory if Javier tried to run to leave with Kate instead of following David's plan and has to be convinced that they really are on the same side and want to save David too.

I'd say that she's very loyal to David--protectively so.

  • You make a fair point. I must have forgotten a few scenes here and there.

I'm just hoping that if Ava is alive in Episode 5, she's not anti-climatically killed off shortly afterwards without us seeing more about Ava and David's comradeship, and her friendship with Clementine.

But I fear that since she's now a determinant Ava hasn't got much longer to live in the finale, unless she's also given the special determinant status that Conrad has.

CLEMENTINE!!!! GREATEST CHARACTER OF ALL TIME <3
We love TWDG because of Clem since S1E1!!!

    • Clementine
    • Ava
    • Javier
    • David (he's such a good written character)
    • Marianna (why couldn't it have been Gabe instead?)
  • I suppose. S'just pointing out the technical parameters.

  • Replied to wrong person. But it could be admiration for his obvious caring for Lonnie's wellbeing or maybe just liking his arm tatoos. That's all I can guess.

  • Well, obviously Clem and Javi...

But I would have to say my favorite NPC this season is David by far! He's incredibly well written. I like that they didn't just make him easily hateable or antagonistic.

  • This guy.
