Telltale... Make a new engine

Please telltale make a new engine or atleast just go back to your old one. This "updated" one sucks.

For what it's worth, they actually used a low resolution version of the textures for the zombies at the end of episode 4. They also forgot to apply the detail lines that most characters/zombies have, which also contributes to them not looking that good.

    Please

  • The engine can be quite glitchy, bugged, texture problems, etc. I play on a MSI GE72 Apache Pro and I think it wouldn't hurt to try and at least improve the current engine they use since it does leave much to be desired.

Lmao dude, when I first saw this at the end of episode 4 I genuinely thought to myself "ahh shit, what an awful time for my game to bug out and not load the textures, right when the action happens." And it turns out it was no bug at all and they actually looked like that. What a joke. The engine could definitely use a good rework, but what they really need to do, is put a little more heart and soul into their craft. How was that overlooked by telltale?

    Please

  • Awwwww there's the triggered person. For the record I have it on the Xbox one... But I do have a beastly PC that can do 1080p/60 fps just so you know. It also has an RX 480 in it.

  • I'd prefer them to just go back to Season 2's engine/artwork/whatever-it-is-called.

  • Agree. Details generally are super important in videogames, since they show how much love and effort the creators put into them. And unlike other games, Telltale's ones don't even have much gameplay, many mechanics or an open world to deal with. The games basically are collections of cutscenes, so bad textures are pretty impactful on a "simple" game like this.

  • Another example of poor effort.

  • S1 and S2 shared the same engine, but in S2 they "just" refined it, improved upon.
But I agree, I'd prefer if they used that engine again; maybe with improved animation system.

  • They should never have changed it in the first place.

  • Back when Kenny looked like Kenny.

Maybe it was meant to be an homage to S1's crappy zombies

  • Damn. I didn't realize they looked that bad compared to the noncannon teaser.

I think the problem is that someone ended up using the low poly, background versions of the zombies in this scene, instead of the regular, up close and personal versions.

It's like the equivalent of one of the less detailed zombie extras in the show that's supposed to be in the back managing to get in the front.

  • The engine in ANF has a few tricks up its sleeve, but damn does it suck compared to S2s. This is speaking from a fans perspective, so I don't know if their was any good reason to the change. I can only speak from what I experienced and it was terrible. First 2 episodes had some crazy black texture just randomly appearing over objects which annoyed the crap out of me. Those zombies at the end of episode 4 were a joke. I know TT can do better.

  • The models themselves are high-poly, but the textures are not.

  • Its basically like those times when your game glitches and is still loading in textures, so they look blurry as all living shit

I'm one of the people that doesn't mind the look of S3, but I have to agree-- S2's design was the best

  • The loved how the engine was in Michonne...had some extra bells and the violence was gritty.

  • Looks like the engine needs more optimization if the engine streams the textures in real-time.

  • Well, I can live with S3's look as well. It isn't as bad as many people claim it to be, but the "old style" had a lot of charme, since it made the game look like a moving comic.
