However, we can recall that back in episode 2, Gabe wasn't too happy about Conrad turning on Clementine, tells Javier to shoot him, and chews him out for betraying Clementine if you accept his plan.
Wasn't too happy is putting it mildly, Gabe shouted "This guy is crazy, shoot him!", specifically asking Javier to put Conrad down. And then going off when you don't, what a "fucking coward" Javier is.
As much as I hate to say it, I feel this is one of the consequences of the constant shift of writers between episodes. I feel like this scen… moree exists because the person working on it had different ideas than the person that wrote the Conrad scene/choice back in episode 2 did, resulting in a disconnect.
For example, Gabe's dialogue during this scene has him say "He tried to bargain with you. But you thought killing him would be easier."
However, we can recall that back in episode 2, Gabe wasn't too happy about Conrad turning on Clementine, tells Javier to shoot him, and chews him out for betraying Clementine if you accept his plan. Gabe's dialogue in episode 4 makes the Conrad choice sound like a different situation-- what Conrad did in episode 2 isn't exactly what I'd call bargaining, especially when he's using Gabe himself as leverage.
No wonder he is still acting like a liability after surviving for 4 years. If that's the case, how come he is still alive? I'm still calling bullshit on Javier and his family surviving all these years on a goddamn van.
While in that tunnel Gabe literally yelled at me to shoot him and Gabe even put his hand on his gun when Conrad threatened to shoot Clementine. Also he fact that if you DON'T shoot him, Gabe calls you a "fucking coward." That whole scene was just stupidly forced.
You don't have to tell me that. If Telltale wants us to hate him, then what was even the point of letting him live and have Mariana dead instead?
Honestly having Gabe do that was an extremely risky move and I'm not sure what they were trying to accomplish with it. With all this Gabent… moreine teasing coming from staff I expected for them to have Gabe redeem himself in some way and make him much more likable and acceptable to the fans, that way they'd be more willing to let Gabentine happen but it seems like they did the exact opposite.
Also let me mention how the whole scene didn't make sense at all. Yeah, there is very little reason for Javi and co surviving 4 years except plot, but hey, why would realism be a thing when you can have shiny action scenes

I dont want a "reward" for shooting Conrad per say, but I do think there should be consequences for both choices in a choice, but as it is, there is no consequence for betraying Clem, but all the consequence for killing Conrad
The reason people (me included) shot Conrad is to get Clementines trust and whatnot, and the reason there is no consequence for letting Conrad live is honestly bad writing, people say that she forgives him, but thats so out of character from what we have seen of Clem this season, Clementine doesnt trust people, she doesnt like people, she hasnt been around people for at least a year, so when she finally opens up and trusts Javier with her secret of having been New Frontier, it was a big deal, so Javi betraying her trust would be the ultimate betrayal in Clementines eyes, but instead she just doesnt care, that seems like terrible writing to me
This is exactly why she would care, she has seen everyone she knows die, she doesnt trust people, she doesnt trust anyone, so when she finally trusts Javier with her secret of being New Frontier, its a huge deal, its like she is finally starting to open up, maybe she can trust this man, what do you think would happen if he then betrayed her trust? well she should be devastated, hate him, never want to talk to him again, but terrible writing dictates that she doesnt care
its not logic that says she doesnt care, every logic would say she should care ALOT, but bad/lazy writing says she doesnt
I would hate him alot less if it wasnt for the fact that Telltale basically told me I should care for him, the reason season 1 was so good was because there was no previous character relations, so you built relations with Lee, but with A New Frontier there is alot of previous relations, where the game tells you "you should care for these people", but doesnt give you a reason to, if Gabe, Kate and Mariana was a family that met Javi, but had no previous relations with him, I would have been alot more open about it, but in a choice based game I dont like the game telling me that I should care about people, this is also why I find the plot extremely dull with the exception of AJ and Clem, the game tells me I should care about David, but I dont, if David was some stranger, I would care more.
Also, Gabe is just very badly written, I get that he is a teenager, but there is no way he would be so fucking oblivious to the state of the world after 4 years, if he is that oblivious and conciously fucks stuff up just to be a bitch, then he should have died years ago
I actually find it unsettling that people hate Gabe to the point that they want him to die. I can understand hating people like The Stranger… more or Carver, but Gabe? He can be an obnoxious, punk teenager at times, but being obnoxious and a punk isn't worth warranting disgust and death to me.
Yeah, there is very little reason for Javi and co surviving 4 years except plot, but hey, why would realism be a thing when you can have shiny action scenes
The hell does this have anything to do with clem? I'm talking about Conrad, ans the fact clem doesn't bat an eye, but I only used her name so that people will understand that they don't need to bother about siding with her.
Well there was a person there who used to work for a specific group who cut off his girlfriend's finger and murdered her right Infront of him. Granted, Mariana is killed Infront of Javier but Clem helped javi back to his family, if she hadn't done that they might have all been killed. This would have given Javier a good enough reason to trust her, and even when clem does tell Javier about her past with the new frontier Javier still seems very shocked.
I'm sorry, I say this to everyone but I've never gotten a good enough excuse before: if you think a new frontier has bad writing, then why the hell are you still playing it? And don't say that you already paid for it, because that money can easily be earned within a day and it was over 5 months ago so the $20-30 or whatever doesn't even matter anymore. And if you really did hate it, then why are you waiting around the forums for the next episode, if you are clearly not interested? This really doesn't make any sense, so you saying clem doesn't bring anything up because if bad writing is just like you hating the game but still playing it anyway. So let me hear your excuse for it please.
Clem doesnt care only because of terrible writing, there should always be consequences to both sides of a choice, but currently, there is no… more consequence for keeping Conrad alive, and all teh consequence for killing him.
And no Clementine does care, the reason she never brings it up is bad writing, do you really think that Clementine would just let that slide? after she trusted you with the fact that she was new frontier previously? after we have seen how many issues she have trusting and confiding in people? no, its completely out of character, and the only reason nothing comes of it is bad writing
I dont hate it, I never said I hated it, I'm playing it because I am interested in Clementine and her story, David is a decent character, there is alot of things I dislike about this game, but I never said I hated it, its ok, just not exactly what I wanted from TWD series, so I am definitely gonna be more cautious if they release a game after this
I'm sorry, I say this to everyone but I've never gotten a good enough excuse before: if you think a new frontier has bad writing, then why t… morehe hell are you still playing it? I wouldn't say they were being irrational but I don't even know what to say about Gabe. How could someone 180 and do something that unlikable? It makes no sense.
This is why this scene is so bad, nearly all players I see go "...really why?" and then look at the camera, it comptley takes them out of t… morehe immersion as gabe does something so ridiculous and unlikeable, immeditaly leading into tripp and elanor acting irrational and it just stops anyone caring whatsoever.
I was talking about the shit between Gabe and Javier. Not about take the deal with Conrad.
About the deal with Conrad, Clem should be the one who can realise rash decisions and just killing are never good. This is the way Lee raised Clem.
Clem can understand Javi did to save his family, or did because he simply couldn't kill Conrad because this could cause trouble with the rest of the group. A broken group in this tense situation could be more dangerous than going with Conrads plan. With Tripp for example who is mad because Javi killed his friend.
Even Gabe finally realised not killing Conrad was the best decision. This is the only way to keep Gabe less annoyant. In my game Gabe was fine.
So no bad writing at all.
This is exactly why she would care, she has seen everyone she knows die, she doesnt trust people, she doesnt trust anyone, so when she final… morely trusts Javier with her secret of being New Frontier, its a huge deal, its like she is finally starting to open up, maybe she can trust this man, what do you think would happen if he then betrayed her trust? well she should be devastated, hate him, never want to talk to him again, but terrible writing dictates that she doesnt care
its not logic that says she doesnt care, every logic would say she should care ALOT, but bad/lazy writing says she doesnt
And after the shitstorm that HE caused, do you know what he does? The little shithead throws a 'you don't have to tell me Javi, I know I fucked up'. My Javi wouldn't know (if telltale thought I'd want to see Gabe, let alone TALK to him in that damn parking lot they were sorely mistaken) That's not how it fucking works Gabe! You can't just say 'sorry' and everything goes away!
Stupid teenagers do that in the normal world, The Walking Dead world isn't normal anymore. I'm very forgiving and find it hard to hate a kid/teenager. It really takes someone being like The Stranger/Carver for me to hate them.
Stupid teenagers ignore you and listen to hard metal and slam their doors, they don't betray you after you saved their own fucking life coun… moretless times. He's an ungrateful prick and he's certainly taking on more from his father than Javier, which is exactly what Kate feared would happen.
I legit don't get why they'd have kept this scene. All it does is give those of us who hate Gabe more reasons to do so, despite Telltale seemingly wanting the fans to get on board with Gabe as a character. After this, even if Gabe does try to redeem himself in the next episode it won't make a difference. I'm not going to forget his bitchy little smile at the delight of stirring shit, and I really can't see any chances of this guy ever leaving his firm position as being one of the most hated characters to appear in the series.
I wonder who was suppose to be in Gabe spot to tell tripp that Javier killed Conrad because if you listen to tripp he said is SHE telling the truth you murder my friend but telltale add the word He in the sentence
I wouldn't say they were being irrational but I don't even know what to say about Gabe. How could someone 180 and do something that unlikable? It makes no sense.
You don't have to tell me that. If Telltale wants us to hate him, then what was even the point of letting him live and have Mariana dead instead?
Because...
1. There were more opportunities for challenging stories with him.
2. They noticed that the girl-boy ratio was way off.
3. They wanted to avoid more Unfortunate Implications after what happened with Sarah.
4. They realized she would make Javier look like a Lee ripoff by being a Clementine ripoff and panicked.
5. She was a plot device created solely for the purpose of making the New Frontier Javier's enemy.
6. They wanted to fuck with ya'll.
No wonder he is still acting like a liability after surviving for 4 years. If that's the case, how come he is still alive? I'm still calling… more bullshit on Javier and his family surviving all these years on a goddamn van.

eh not really bipolar id say more depressed and reckless much like Kenny except he doesnt known clementine as well as Kenny did so to him s… morehe s just some girl who ocasionally appears in prescott so its not really farfetched to think that since he s depressed and is being very reckless he might do something retarded like that ((before someone mentions the game over screen Conrad has then i raise you a mike murdered clementine and Lee let her die in episode 1.))
Gabe's dialogue in episode 4 makes the Conrad choice sound like a different situation-- what Conrad did in episode 2 isn't exactly what I'd call bargaining, especially when he's using Gabe himself as leverage.
Yeah, seriously. And also especially since they were "bargaining" over Clementine, about whom the scene after the next one would establish that Gabe's "always" had a crush on but was just playing it cool.
As much as I hate to say it, I feel this is one of the consequences of the constant shift of writers between episodes. Holy shit, you guys weren't exaggerating. This kid's inferiority complex and indifference to self-preservation(in multiple sense even) has officially become viral. Guess letting Tripp becoming partially determinant really is for the best--cause his illogical stupidity's spreading!
No, but for real though, as someone who liked Gabe from the beginning and still does despite some concerns, this scene is just mindbogglingly dumb. And let me clarify that Gabe telling everyone that you killed Conrad isn't bad writing: Gabe telling everyone that you killed Conrad regardless of how you actually treat him and NO ONE besides Tripp cares enough to be concerned about the whole thing afterwards is.

It is bad-writting. I saved his stupid ass from a maniac and this is how he repays me. Let's not forget that he was the one who asked for his death in the tunnel and pointed the gun on him to protect his uncle
Are you actually justifying Gabe's betrayal? Look at that stupid smile, he was happy to set his own uncle up when Javi has done nothing but keep him alive. And he is using that excuse, "stop treating me like a kid" when he is actually acting like one.

Tell that to Resident Evil 6.
Good example

Lol yeah I couldn't believe how many writers there are for each episode. That's exactly the reason this season is all over the place
Remember when characters were written in a way that they were unique and interesting?
... yeah that was like half a decade ago, this is the new hip shit way to write character now!
Jesus, when did games started being these cringe-y movies that make no sense... holy hell.
