If she is living in a community that is growing food..then yeah she would be gaining muscle. Plus it makes sense for a community to keep it… more's scroungers and fighters well fed..it creates loyalty and helps build a stiffer resistance to sickness and bandit attacks and the occasional herd.

In the artwork, Clementine has no definition whatsoever. It's just... more. More fat/meat/whatever. I also don't think that's how her skeleton would be built. She's always had a tiny body build (yes, yes still 13). I don't think she gets that much bigger to have big arms in and of itself. So the Nadine Ross approach is way more realistic than the artistic one above.
When you said "please no", "she's gained weight!" and "looks more masculine and less feminine" you came off as though you could be disgusted… more for Clem to appear in that way as though she fits out of the norm of what's acceptable. Atleast to me you did. When honestly that image appears closer to reality. I can see folks in the street looking like both the Javier and Clem above.
Yeah not all teens get acne but plenty still do and good possibility of Clem getting it especially at 14.
Lee would likely be considered tall, kind of dark and handsome. He kind of prettymuch took on group leader after they separated from Lilly, while even Vernon sort of verified that they looked to him in that way.

And I believe I've explained stereotypes sufficiently at this point. But my main point is that you don't think it fits possibly because it's not what you've been traditionally exposed to already. And what you've been exposed to are likely stereotypically animated images. Real life Clem might not look as "cute" as game Clem Real life Javier might not look as "handsome" as game Javier. Above images look closer to reality than game portrayal I believe. Which is o.k. if that's what they are going for.
Not many protagonist roles that do not feature the cliche hot guy/girl or cute guy/girl since stereotypically main characters are just made to look that way to the audience. Should anyone change how they look then alot of folks will think that "hey this doesn't fit what is normal". Besides Tom Cruise you'll hardly ever have a short overweight or non handsome male in the lead role in an action movie or drama. Why? Because it "doesn't fit" social norms of what main lead characters look like.
