Maybe you can STOP the infection ?

So the bites are killing you because of the bacterias in zombies mouth. But if you clean the wound immediately after you got bit, is there any chance you can survive from a bite ? Or using antibiotics maybe can stop the infection as well (they are bacterias as you know)? I mean its not the zombie virus that killing you in the process. Maybe there is a chance to survive from a bite ?

  • No.
Zombie infections can not be stopped. If they could, we wouldn't have the comics, show, games and all the death that happened in them so far.

Maybe they havent figured it out yet ? Becuase in an apocalypse atmosphere, people are so hopeless to survive in a situation like that.

  • I'm sure many people have tried that many times, to no avail. That would probably be the one thing you do before deciding to cut a limb off.
It's 5 years in the apocalypse at this point, everything's been tried, there is no cure.

  • The only reason this doesn't work is plot. It would probably work in theory, if you clean the wound thoroughly and pump the patient full of strong antibiotics.

Yeah sure it seems that way. In a medical perspective, it should be possible.

You don't think that's what the hospitals were doing before they got over run? Didn't seem to work.

  • Nope, you get sick regardless.

My train of thought is, if the virus makes you sick, and the fever you get is what kills you, what would happen if you stuck them in an ice tub preventing the fever from burning you out?

  • I like the idea. But we lost the recipe for ice.

  • It depends on what type of bacteria we're actually dealing with in the instances of the bites causing death. The severity level and effectiveness would suggest the bacteria is at least on par with the Bubonic Plague. Some of the symptoms presented may also be a mutated strain of Dengue fever, or perhaps necrotising fasciitis.

In these instances of bacterial infections, cleaning the wound instantly would have minimal results. If it were a mutated strain of necrotising fasciitis, that might explain why it's necessary to amputate as quickly as possible in order to prevent death because the bacterial toxins can destroy soft tissue and reduce blood flow, antibiotics may not reach all of the infected and dying areas.

  • Hospitals have limits as well. How many million people do you think were hospitalized on the first day alone? We will never know if the antibiotics would have worked or maybe even worked on some people, because they died anyway. That doesn't mean it wouldn't work in theory, with enough strong antibiotics.

  • I got you covered.

    Recipe for Ice

    What you need

    x l water

    Steps

    1. cool below 0°C

I like the idea. But we lost the recipe for ice.

  • Well maybe if the zombie apocalypse happened in real life it would. But you know people got to make it like this to keep up the series and make money.

  • do that without electricity.

  • There's no way to stop the infection in TWD other than amputation, that's kind of the point. The scientists in the TV show would have discovered a solution as simple as heavy antibiotics but they came up with nothing.
There's no cure but it would be interesting if some people were immune. Throughout history it was possible for individuals to be immune to certain deadly diseases through mutations in genetics.
If this were to happen a cure would be possible, but no one seems to be immune.

  • Go somewhere cold

    do that without electricity.

  • Uh generators?

  • It's not about curing the zombie virus. It's about stopping you from dying by any other illness/bacterial infection. Only after your death, the zombie virus takes over your body. It's not the virus itself that kills you, since everyone would be dead already, because everyone carries it.

  • there s no way to known if antibiotics would work on a bite since every group you see in the comics/Series/games never tries that idea because there s a chance it would be a waste of Medicine which is the hardest type of supply to find.

  • Stay somewhere cold

    right after you get bit.

  • Antibiotics won't ever work with a zombie bite. We do know if antibiotics would work or not, and they don't. There is no amount of medicine in the world that can stop the infection; the only way to survive the bite is by cutting off your limb. That's it.

  • So then there really is no cure, that's depressing.

Like in Left 4 Dead ? or Dying Light ?

  • I think near to no people were hospitalised because hospitals are full of dead people, meaning it would have easily been overrun before anybody made it there

  • Well they could do it like dead rising or dying light so you need to take a specific type of medication to slow it down/stop it but you are still infected, then you will die when you stop taking said medication.

  • But if you just clean it, how would you be able to determine whether it's stopping or not? You just sit there and wait until you find out if you live or die?

Antibiotics in my opinion are not an ideal choice. Sure, it can help reduce it, but it wouldn't completely foil the infection when the bacteria growth is consistently escalating (I think). Amputating the limb immediately before it raids your system would be my safest bet. Moreover, can you imagine how lucky you'd be to find antibiotics? You probably would've already come to a sticky end before you even find some. Why search when you have an axe?

  • They actually can by using antibiotics, A LOT OF THEM...

  • If they didn't die from the infection itself, but from walker attacks, then that doesn't disprove the theory that the antibiotics could have worked.

If they died they definitely didn't work.

  • If the CDC or any other organization didn't manage to come up with a cure, the only way would be natural immunity. If can be developed over time under these circumstances. I am not a biologist or toxicologist, but I guess a body needs to fight illnesses in order to create immunity and pass them down genes and generations. But when you're alive, you're not fighting the virus, that's the problem.

  • There's no evidence for that. I don't know how that got started but no one has lived by taking some sort of medicine. It's very likely heavy antibiotics and medication have been attempted before to no avail.

I'm not a medical expert but it seems highly unlikely.

Theres no telling that what the zombies put in the bite could even be killed by alcohol or peroxide or whatever. But if it could do it. I would imagine the window to try it would be SECONDS. Not often your gonna get bit and somehow be able to pour antiseptic on the wound FIVE seconds later or something.

  • The morgue is under the hospital and the dead get brought from the hospital down there so when somebody died, they would have bitten one of the doctors and then it must have spread that way.

I think you are mistaking a hospital for a morgue.

  • IT doesn't spread we all are already infected.

  • I meant that people are getting bitten and dying from it

IT doesn't spread we all are already infected.

  • Its very possible that an antidote could be created but it would probably take years and years and years and years and years of research to find something like this and most of the people who know about science are probably dead by now so RIP, and Its kinda already a bit late for an antidote as you cant just inject a zombie with it and he just turns back to human when hes already decayed and you would also have to have different amounts of doses depending on the bite and how much they take out of you and most likely youll probably be eaten straight away instead of getting bitten once

  • Think of these bugs that are going around now that antibiotics aren't having any effect on. Even if you washed out the bite and took some drug right afterwards I don't think it would do it. I'm not even sure cutting off the limb would realistically do it since if it got in the bloodstream you'd be toast. Then again, it does take 1 minute for blood to go around the body, but for an arm or leg that would be even less...practically you've got seconds to do it if we were talking about real-life terms at least.

I mean if you were really desperate maybe having a go pouring acid on the bite might do it in killing out any infection, but that's dangerous, and would probably hurt just as bad. Bottom line best just to not get bitten in the ZA ^__^'
