Will The Walking Dead ever end?
I'm serious; like, we all know that the outbreak was caused by some sort of virus that causes people to come back after they die or are bitten. But, we don't know how the infection first got caught (No, not the air; because if people were constantly breathing the virus through the air, everyone would've turned by now as oxygen flows through the blood stream). And we don't know if there's some sort of cure for the virus.
We also don't know if people are even trying to find the cure anymore. So, my big question is;
Will The Walking Dead ever end?

Mby never... That is the world now
Or
So I think finding a cure is the least possible thing. If there is the end it'll definitely happen by moulder of walkers.
Ofc it won't change the fact that when people die they'll still become walkers. So if population increases and people won't be carefull enough the whole apocalypse can start again
Do you even know the definition of a cure? It means that whatever disease or illness you've got, is GONE! If there is a cure and population grows, death isn't that big of a hazard anymore.
Of course it will end.
If there was a possible cure, there wouldn't be enough scientists, let alone labs/lab equipment to even try to find such a cure.
If there wasn't a possible cure, human nature will be put into effect, which means that a lot of people will kill other people, as time goes on, resulting in humans causing the extinction of humans.
Yes, it will end...eventually. I'll give it another 5-10 years before it ends.
As for how it ends, I doubt they'll find a cure. Most of the labs are destroyed and the supplies are decreasing. If anything, it'll end with either the walkers decaying till the point they're nothing but bone or Rick dies trying to get Carl and the others to safety.
You must understand that every survivor carries the virus inside, so it is either airborne, or in drinking water, or both. So no, no one turns immediately when breathing the virus, since it's everywhere in every human already.
Also, it is not the bite that turns you. If a rotten corpse bites you, you can be sure to bite the dust because of the multitudes of bacteria, illnesses and viruses that enter your bloodstream as soon as bitten.
So, theoretically, if sufficient treatment and antibiotics available, you could prevent a bite victim from dying, and therefor from turning.
But such medical facilities are not available anymore in a zombie apocalypse. And at the initial outbreak, medical facilities would simply be over capacitated.
So, in simple terms, you die, you turn. There is no method or means to turn you, but to kill you. Injecting one with Walker guts is the same as injecting you a poisonous cocktail. It's not the virus at that moment that turns you, it's the multitude of bacteria, viruses and illnesses that'll kill you, and after your death, the dorment zombie virus activates and turns you.
That being said, it's unlikely The Walking Dead could ever end unless humans develop natural immunity to the zombie virus. And herds may decay after a long period of time. Humanity may or may not recover at some point, but unless immunity is developed, there always will be walkers after dead humans.
Why is it, then, that people can touch and get covered in Chomper guts and be okay, if it's that bad? (Not meaning to sound rude). People can touch talker guts with their bare hands and not get sick. And yet nobody can touch a dead rat because they could be filled with disease.
And WOW!! Those are actually some awesome and solid points! So, I guess it is worse than rabies.
You'd think, though, that the infection would turn animals as well (which would've been f**king awesome!!), but no, it doesn't turn them. Do you think it all matters about sentience? Do you have to be a sentient being in order to have the virus affect you?
If you touch something that's infected, what gets you sick is rubbing your hand in your eyes, your lips or other body openings. That's why it's important to regularly wash your hands and/or disinfect them, if you've touched money or toilet door handles, for example. Getting walker guts on your skin is not dangerous unless you ingest them in large amounts. You don't also get necessarily sick if you swallow bacteria, since spit and your stomach are able to kill off most.
Hope you get what I am saying and why touching walker guts isn't lethal necessarily.
I think they'll continue to have the virus in them, but like with most things humanity does, they'll adapt. The dead coming to life and walking around will just be a problem, but a manageable one.
I like to think it was a solar flare or something that changed us on a molecular level. Air or or water contaminants wouldn't be able to facilitate a global outbreak at the rate we see in the TWD.
Heavy shit Ninja! I've been reading a book about sapience and what it is and how it starts. Cool!
More likely, the virus is just specific to humans, similar to smallpox and HIV. It happens.
In the end, it's still a ficitional universe. There's also no way the military would have been destroyed so utterly and so fast, or that Rick would have survived for weeks without water, but it happened because plot. I'm pretty sure it really is as simple as an airborne virus that remains dormant until death.
It's just that if it's in the water or air it makes me think it's man made. And that makes me think that maybe someone did it on purpose villain style. I guess I just like to think that we are victims of nature in a ZA.
I think Kirkman said his goal is to get to 300 issues. So it's still gonna be around for a long time unless it gets discontinued by Image comics for whatever reason.
There are a lot of natural airborne and waterborne diseases. Just because this one is 100% efficient doesn't mean it's man made.
But the air and water currents wouldn't move it around that fast I don't think. Think of Fukushinma. They are pumping like three hundred thousand gallons of radioactive water back into the ocean every day since the disaster, and the contaminants haven't spread around globally. But like you say its a fictional world.
I doubt the extinction of humans would happen. For one, we don't know if the virus is outside of the States (probably is, but we don't know that at all). But even if it is, the world is filled with over 7,000,000,000 (billion) people. It would take AGES for the humans to go extinct. And, even by the time that should have happened, humans would most likely have made some sort of system with each other.
Yeah, I thought about that when Lee's group was in Savannah. When he dug up the dog, I thought to myself; I wonder why animals don't turn...
And then I remembered Sentience is always an important key factor in things. So, is it a matter of sentience that the virus can activate/even be present in a body?
True.
Not all stories are immortal. So The Walking Dead is gonna end as well. There are so many possibilities about the end :
Cure is not likely. Being able to find a cure, you have to have great terms for research and great team for analyzing. That is not seem possible in apocalypse. There will be no cure.
Virus probably spread out from water or air or both. Its not killing you, it will only use your body as host after you died. Virus cant struggle with your system so it waits for you to die. What killing you is that bacterias and other diseases hiding on zombies mouth. Thats why you end up dead after you got bit. I dont know if there is a way to beat the infection after you got bit but there is no way stopping from turning.
It already been confirmed that the virus is nation wide. The special issue about Rick's bro, Jeffery, is based in South America.
You mean worldwide... right? Unless there are no zombies in South America is what you're saying?
probably best theory we got so far
Worldwide. Excuse my french.
It's not based in South America, it's based in Barcelona, Spain.
Oh. Then the outbreak is multi continental.
I said that finding some cure for this is not possible man. I mean, zombies will be mouldered and defeated but people will still stay sick so the whole thing can start up again
It was airborne, or the most efficient way to infect 100% of the worlds population. The infection is then dormant until the carrier dies. Do you not pay attention to the story? Everyone is infected, and no matter how you die, you will turn (unless you destroy the brain).
Now, onto the question: In my opinion, I do believe humanity might eventually rebuild itself, but it will probably take hundreds of years to get everything back up and running. For the rest of time whenever a person dies they will have to destroy the brain in order to prevent reanimation and the apocalypse all over again. I believe humanity is permanently damaged from here on out and technological advancement is probably null and void for at least the distant and foreseeable future.
The Walking Dead will never truly end for humanity, but eventually everyone will get the hang of the whole Walker problem.
