I still don't understand the whole thing with Conrad/Gabe (Ep 2/4 Spoilers)

People say Gabe was justified in snitching out Javi about shooting Conrad...and i'm just like wat? If we're talking about Javi holding back the information from Tripp/Eleanor then sure, that was wasn't cool. But I start have a problem with that explanation when we never get a chance to just straight up tell either of them what really happened. Hell I thought I DID tell Tripp that I had to put Conrad down (I would've double checked but since I can't rewind, im not playing an entire damn episode to see if I did). Plus it seems like Gabe did what he did more just to piss Javi off rather than have some sense of morality.

Comments

  • Gabe spilled the beans because he is a teenager filled up with hormones and he doesn't think before he says/acts/does anything. He's just that kid who tells his parents he hates them and leaves the house, and few hours laters he's back with apologies.

Javier didn't get a good chance to explain what happened mostly because he was worried about his brother - they were in a hurry and needed to get the truck before the dawn, so it was very little time to organize everything; it would be better anyway for Tripp to cool off and for the conversation to be continued later, after everyone calmed down and went back to discussing things rather than yelling and flipping tables. Too bad Tripp is determinant now, however there's a chance we might get some extra dialogue in the finale.

  • Yeah, that scene feels like it should've been a good, tense moment if the story within the episode supported it more.

    • Gabe reveals what happened regardless of your actual relationship with him,
    • Tripp continues to prove what an illogical oaf he is,
    • Eleanor's decision to make a deal with Joan was actually set up earlier and happens regardless,
    • Clementine tries to vouch for Javier but says nothing else about either situation,
    • Kate has nothing to say on the topic,
    • The tension between Javier and Gabe is more or less resolved by the time they steal the truck,
    • And those who didn't pick Ava end up having a partially determinant Tripp anyway, making this whole thing pretty much pointless.
  • Gabe only wanted to stab Javi in the back, he is such a moronic teen with big dreams and any lack of self-awareness. His destructive, inconsiderate behavior put everyone's life at risk, multiple times actually. It's the main reason why Ava/Tripp are dead, Kate probably too and Richmond full of zombies. Well done Gabriel.
The most ironic part is that he calls Javi a coward when he refuses to shoot Conrad. That's the whole point of the Gabe-hate after episode 4. This guy makes no sense at all and desperately needs a slap to the face in order for his brain to slip back into the right spot.

Javi should've told them himself. As soon as it happened, but for drama reasons, Telltale refused to give us that choice back then.

Uh, actually no: Ava and Tripp are non-determinately captured independently of Gabe's determinate outburst and Lingard has Javier tell the group minutes beforehand that Joan knows they're still in the city and is looking for them.

I see. Makes it less bad for the ~12% who didn't shoot Conrad then. For the majority, the reason they got captured is still Eleanor selling them out.

  • That's actually another issue entirely, since that entire reveal is pretty damn tacked on. At least the Gabe thing could've work since it was built up over several episodes and involved characters we'd seen on a regular basis.
