SPOILERS! The Church Scene
I was shouting at my Monitor the entirety of this scene, the way deaths throughout the entire series have been played down has been absolutely laughable.
Marianna's death really hit me, it hit me more than it hit David and practically Kate and Javi for that matter.
Then there was the scene in the Church, if you chose to go with Kate, she'll have a brief moment to contemplate Gabe's death, then be like:
"Right, we need to secure the herd, I'm feeling calm and maybe we should start a family, Javi?"
YOUR CHILDREN ARE GONE!
Yet the writers are treating Kate like she has short-term memory loss, embarrassing stuff after a really strong episode.
Overall, average season at best. Back to the drawing board for Telltale.

Well, to be fair, Gabe and Marianna were not her children. She was the step-mother. But yeah, weird.
Gabe was alive in my game, but I still told her "not now". I mean, Javi just lost his brother.
Yet the same exact scene with Gabe still alive and Kate gone was pretty well written, guess the writers picked their favorite and focused on that one.
! To note, I know they're her step-kids, but the impact it seemingly had on her was embarrassingly minimal.
I found it hilarious.
They were mourning Gabe & Mariana, but a minute later Kate is just like "Hey, let's start a family".
Sucked the sadness right out of a sad moment.
Wow did Kate really say it after her step-son die what a selfish cow.
There was the natural moment of grief for a second or two... then it was a sudden jolt to 'We need to control the herd', 'I'm as calm as I've been' and 'Let's start a family'.
You'd have thought the grief and impact of Gabe's death would have spanned a little longer with extra depth, it just frustrated me how badly we were expected to move on for an almost forced, nostalgic scene of Javi cutting Clem's hair (final result debatable).
Nice try Telltale, but if weren't going to give these characters the send-off they deserved, albeit not all deserved good ones, you really should not have bothered with A New Frontier to begin with.
don't agree more
Meh at that point I was just rolling with it.
What was really unintentionally hilarious for me was how sudden and quick Ava died.
yeah, they definitely picked favorites. gabe ended up having one of the most emotional deaths in the game, and the memorial scene is meant to be emotional as well. they even made gabe's face red and his eyes teary, whereas kate had no added detail. kate also died offscreen or just went missing, which is super cheap although i don't like her.
Kate's off-screen death was probably one of the most cheapest deaths in ANF. Sad, but cheap.
And don't even get me started on her "assumed disappearance death". That literally made no sense.
So many fucking endings and so many of them were just messed up or plain stupid.
It was nice shooting zombie Kate in the head though, Javier did a nice WRAAAAAAAGGHH after doing it too.
So, can you keep Gabe alive and stay with Kate in a romantic way? She didn't asked for some kind of "break"?
No she didn't ask for any break. Also I went ahead and flirted with Jesus afterwards too because why not.
I honestly wanted to laugh at that too.
I'm trying to figure out how to keep Kate and Gabe alive, because Gabe is pretty dead in mine. Did you killed Conrad during episode 2?
I did. In my game, Clem took control of the situation and told me to go with Kate while she would go after Gabe. I didn't argue. She saved him while I went for Kate.
I still don't know what makes Clem decide what to do on that situation.
When you just say yes to starting a family cuz youve been tryin to smash all season
Thanks for the answers! I'll keep my research
Again, the pacing was off as usual.. but I see where Telltale was coming from. Javi and Kate wanted to accept the past and move on, together, as a couple. 3 days are not enough, should've at least been about a month up to half a year. But that would cause a conflict with the goodbye towards Jesus and Clementine.
then maybe we could assume that the ending where Kate died is meant to happen in the actual plot line. It goes parallel with the official key art Telltale released.
Agreed. That version of the scene was much more emotional.
And I dunno, something about it only being Javi and Gabe feels... right.
I expected her to throw it like Tripp did.
Yeah it was pretty unintentionally hilarious.
More like predictable than stupid. How could she NOT die on a bulldozer by herself facing an enormous herd?? I made my choice with the hunch I was choosing saving my brother's life over hers.
Well I had David alive aswell but he was being emo so he didn't even showw on screen in the end.
David can live? Christ. What a mess.
lol what about "I'm glad Mariana is dead, because she might be scared right now... which is so much worse than being dead, right?"
Don't forget about "I'm glad Mariana is dead, because she might be scared right now... which is so much worse than being dead, right?"
Still defies logic that Kate would kiss/admit her feelings for Javier in front of David and then act so surprised and acts as if he can be calmed down even though she knows he can't. The only way this makes sense is if she was hoping Javier and David would fight with Javier killing David to move on with Javier (determinately). Honestly Kate's character was so all over the place it was difficult to even care about her.
Yeah they just went he hasn't talked to me since and thats about as far as they went with him.
