KATE = KENNY = ***** CONFIRMED
As you may know already, if Javi goes after Gabe and Clem stays with Kate then Kate's status becomes unknown when you return to Richmond. Many players assume she is dead, and Javier and Gabe go so far as to put her picture on the memorial wall.
However, I am here to inform you that Kate is not dead but is blessed with the spirit of Kenny and will return to us alive and well, just like how Kenny was unknown after season 1 but returned later despite the doubt and naysayers.
EVIDENCE #1: She has become a crowbar wielding badass.
Although she started the apocalypse timid and incapable, by the finale she manages to save Javi and David from a walker and later she takes out several walkers by herself. You can even see Javi about to step in to help but Kate handles it. And she is using a crowbar. You know who else used a crowbar?
EVIDENCE #2: Her status is intentionally left unknown after she is lost to the herd.
For the other players who got this ending, you saw this statement during the credits recap.
This is incredibly similar to what everyone saw during the credits in season 1 for Kenny's character. It would have been very easy to show Javi simply finding Kate as a walker, just like he does in another ending. But no, she is intentionally written off as unknown for the time being. She is out there, somewhere.
EVIDENCE #3: She becomes unknown through an incredibly noble act
Just like how Kenny is separated from the group by either a) putting Ben out of his misery or b) saving Christa and her unborn child, Kate summons her resolve by the end of the finale and decides to risk herself in order to save Richmond and make things right, becoming separated from her loved ones in the process and being assumed dead.
She has many other trivial parallels with Kenny, like being shot in the gut, losing a child, wanted to leave the place before disaster struck, name starts with a K, etc. but ultimately those things don't really matter. What matters is that she has become a capable individual whose status becomes unknown through an entirely selfless act, just like Kenny in season 1. It would have been quick and easy to just show her as a walker, but Telltale intentionally made her fate ambiguous.
Mark my words, we will see Kate again in this ending. For those who got this ending, her becoming lost for the time being is simply punishment for us putting our brotherly relationship with David before her. I wager that when Clem returns to Richmond with AJ, she will have another familiar face with her.
Comments
I am all but convinced she is alive since telltale will write characters off in a manner like this to bring them back. Perhaps she'll appear in Clementines story down the road
She can't be that important though as she can be dead
There are so many endings and determinant characters I doubt she'll be back...at least not in any important role. I doubt we will see any of the Garcias again. What you got is what you get. The next installment will focus on Clementine.
It would not make much sense. 3 days passed and she did not come back. If she'd be alive, I'm sure she'd come back. She was most likely killed. Her getting lost in the middle of Richmond and not being able to find a way back there is just retarded.
Since she's determinate I'm not sure how likely she is to return.
I wish we got an epilogue DLC so that we could tie up loose ends like this one and David's "depression", as well as dealing with Joan/Clint.
Clementine has plans to bring AJ back to Richmond. Kate, Gabe, David, Conrad, Clint, Joan, and Lingard all have determinate fates. I'm pretty certain we will see Javi again.
And again, if she won't be back and they were going to wrap up the Garcia's story, why not show her as a walker instead of making her deliberately unknown?
She could have been caught in the herd and used walker guts to try and get out. She could have gone after Javi when Richmond was secure and got lost. She could have been hurt and had to flee. We simply don't know enough information. And she also has no idea that Javier went back to Richmond or that he might be in charge.
It certainly seems like we will. Clint/Joan have a ? over their faces in the credits, many characters are determinate, and it flat out says that Clem's story will continue. I smell a DLC coming soon.
Sorry to destroy your theory.
Yeah, she might not even WANT to go back to Richmond in this scenario. I mean it only happens if you don't help her and instead try to rescue David - maybe she is expecting David to be alive and she doesnt want the abusive relationship to continue, and maybe she also feels disconnected from Javi for not helping her.
This is part of a separate ending where both Clem and Javi go after Gabe, leaving Kate completely alone in Richmond. This does not destroy my theory at all. Gabe can die in one of the endings, and David can survive in one of the endings as well. This is simply the ending where Kate's fate is left intentionally ambiguous.
If you didn't ship Javi and Kate then I could see her not wanting to return. But in my game I shipped them and Kate approved of my decision to go after David and they kissed right before Javi departed. Kate would definitely try to come back for me.
she's determinant, and i highly doubt that we will ever see kate and gabe again.
Kenny didn't have a determinant death back in season 1.That counts for a lot.
It's probably because they've realised that there's not a fitting resolution to every single situation ever. People can just go missing and then that's that.
Kate also has several endings where she is alive and well. Kate does have the one ending where she is definitely dead but she is left unknown for a reason.
The difference is Clementine isn't there, she probably saved Kate somehow
honestly, i think they did that for more differing endings. i dont think it'll make any impact, just like david leaving richmond
cough because they made it out alive and will reunite with us later cough
plus there was a herd. the city was cleared after the timeskip, she probably just died
I stand corrected: some bs deaths will happen to them in a flashback.
Just like in the twd universe bitten = dead, in the TTG universe determinant = dead.
I don't even want to even think about it being different because that would mean the story would have no consistency left, as much as I disliked the handling of the S2 ending.
It's funny you say that because TWD rule is the opposite. If you dont see them die then they could very likely be alive.
honestly there was nothing noble about kenny's act at all. kenny fucked up, he rectified the issue. cleaning up after himself.
good thread though, i really do love the parallels you made.
So here I am. Interesting facts, keeps my hopes up for Kate to return, even for just a little glimpse at the start of season 4. I really shipped Kate and Javi. I dont think that it will be wrapped up in a dlc since the 400 days and Michonne dlc didnt use any of the main cast then.
The good point in Kates whereabouts unkown is though that she isnt necessarily dead or alive, so its up to the players what they wish for. Just like with Kenny, when you stayed with him at Wellington at the end of season 2 there is a theoretical chance that he is still alive in some peoples playthrough since he doesnt have that car crash then when traveling with Clem. So the same goes for Kate. She can be alive and maybe we will see a little glimpse at the beginning of season 4 (as stated before), but to be honest, there were so many different endings this time that it is very unlikely that we'll get to see more of the Garcias in Season 4, telltale is running on a low budget so unless they get support from a top-class company we wont see respective continueing story lines for each ending.
Girl's got a bullet hole in her. Wouldn't be surprised if she is still alive. Damn near indestructible at this point given all the almost dying she's been through.
Ikr? She's tough as nails at this point, she knows how herds move, and now she knows the walker guts trick. She could have made it out.
Don't know if this makes her even cooler
Or less attractive?
Kenny was cleaning up if he saved Ben, but he honestly had no obligation to get Christa out of there but did because he knew she was pregnant. Pretty noble if you ask me.
And thanks, I really hope to see Kate turn up in the DLC
To be fair, the only real reason Christa went down in the first place is because Kenny knocked the walkie out of Lee's hands. It could have been anybody who fell down that pit and I'd still feel the same way.
Huh, I didn't think it was established at all that Kenny knew, although I personally don't see how somebody's life is more noble to save because of pregnancy. Everybody is equally valuable imo, unless they're like an asshole.
Same here, her character is somewhat interesting to me, as is Javi. The more I see of them the better.
Clem says she wants to return to richmond. Maybe something will happen along the way to prevent her from returning.
Everyone agreed that room was a gaping maw of darkness. NOBODY should have jumped down to retrieve a walkie talkie, at least not without a plan. What Christa did was reckless af and she was lucky that Kenny is a good man.
And yeah Kenny knew about the pregnancy because Christa looks at her belly and chugs a bunch of whisky and Kenny notices and has a look of realization. To a family man like Kenny saving a woman and her child was top priority and yes it is noble to save pregnant women and babies.
Did you also get the ending where Kate disappears? I want a miraculous Javi and Kate reunion more than anything.
But in the ending where she is left alone, she is straight up killed by the herd and they find her corpse. When Clementine goes with her, she is "nowhere to be found". Seems pretty intentional considering how effortless it would be for them to find her corpse like in the other ending.
Good point.
But necessary for all they knew.
That's really subjective honestly. I've done various playthroughs to test the quality of every character and how well they stick to that assigned role or change the personality that role gives due to events in the story, and every playthrough I've put Kenny to the test he's always been nothing less of a self righteous douchebag, the only way he's ever 100% got your back is if you do 100% of the shit he asks from you, even if it's fucked up like slaughtering an old man or shooting a helpless woman in the face, you can never be in the middle with him. Fun fact, other characters who never change their weird personalities no matter what you do. (whether assholes or cool peeps) are Carley, Katjaa and Mark. Carley is always too nosey and bitchy no matter what you do (unless you chose Doug), Katjaa always keeps a calm composure and is way too kind to you even if you fuck Kenny over, and Mark, well I mean he was there for only one episode so who cares.
Fair enough.
I guess Kenny has a Keemstar complex then. An amazing father and husband but just a shitty guy outside of that.
I never said it wasn't, I said it wasn't on a morally higher ground to save them more than saving others. Everyone's life is equal and it's not more noble to save one type of person as opposed to another type of person. What isn't noble in any way is cleaning up after your mess. But again, that's just my fucked up viewpoint on life. What do I know amirite.
If you're asking if I put myself through the torture (joking lol i didn't hate it that bad) of replaying A New Frontier purely to get a different ending that doesn't mean jack shit because we're stuck with Clementine again, then no, no I did not. I did what a real man would do and looked it up on YouTube.
Cooler and more attractive? Haha
Aw yes, because if there's anyone I'd ever think of to get the bubbly Eph going, it's fuckin Kenny.
Cannot deny the 'stache
Hold my beer, watch this!
