Can we call this poor editting? Poor writing? Poor acting? Characters don't seem to cry.

Well if i was in a zombie apocalypse. And i would meet tripp, spend like 2 weeks with him. I would cry. Cuz i mean like, you both saved each other so many times, u became big buddies, etc. We didn't see any tears.
And with the gabe and david deaths. Almost 0 tears like. If your brother was going to die in a few minutes. Wouln't you cry so hard that u would drown in your own tears? Like srsly. Its just like 2 lil tears...
The fuck is this telltale?
BTw it was a good episode tho

  • I guess we're supposed to assume they've become desensitised after witnessing so many deaths or they internalise their grief. Remember its 4 years into the apocalypse....

Yet Javier,Kate and Gabe seem to be somewhat emotionally affected by Marinas death. Clementine cries when Jane dies i believe. Javier is quite emotional over Gabe's death as well.

I'm assuming your partially joking and I'd point you to S1 for excellent use of crying. Kenny crying when his family dies, Clementine crying when Lee dies, Lily crying when Larry dies. Shocker the season wasnt a crybaby fest with the group paddling down a trail of tears as the crying was realistically fitting for the situation. In S2 Clementine crying when Kenny dies and Kenny crying when he departs from Wellington are also good examples as well. Also Marianas (sudden death) seem to have quite the lasting impact on the Garcia family despite being 4 years into the apocalypse.

This annoyed me in season 1, too.

Lee never freaking sheds a tear. Not even one. Let alone cry.
Not when he thinks his whole family is dead, not when he knows his parents are dead, not when he has TO KILL HIS OWN BROTHER, not when he has his potential girlfriend's brains shot out in front of him, not when he has to shoot a LITTLE BOY, not when he has to bury a LITTLE BOY, not when he hears a little girl was raped, not when clem gets kidnapped by god knows who, not when he gets bitten, not when he's about to die and leave Clem alone.

    Not one tear.

People really put season 1 on a pedastal. It has flaws.
Besides Clem, (and she's a little girl) Kenny is the only one shown actually crying, with tears streaming down his face.

  • Wow. I never even thought about this. It is strange how very little times someone cried in season 1, especially because season 1 took place right at the beginning of the apocalypse. Does Katjaa not cry when Duck is bitten?

Here are some scenes where tears were shed that I can recall off the top of my head, seasons 2 and 3: Clementine during the Kenny/Jane fight, both Kenny endings, Javi when Mari dies, Clem when Kenny/Jane dies, and Clem when Gabe dies. For a bunch of traumatized people four to five years into the apocalypse, that's not too bad.

Her voice breaks a bit, but that's it. She does not cry.
    She's evidently tougher than Kenny.
I suppose Jane is really close to crying near the end of season 2 if you save her, as she's afraid Clem will leave her. But still not quite.

Did anyone cry when Mari died? That's seriously one of the things that bothers me the most this season, like top 5. YEARS they spent in the van with her, but I swear it feels like they knew Mariana for like a week before she died. Like "oh it's a little girl, this is sad, but we didn't really know her so it doesn't hurt so much."
    That's what it felt like.

And, even if the voice actor sounds like they're crying unless the animation reflects that, it's bogus.
It's ironic, these snazzy new character models, and they can't make them cry?

  • Seems that tears are not included in this game, like for real they must not render the tears or something cause you can clearly feel like the characters are crying (David's death, Gabe's, Kate's...) but no tears

Honestly, this has been a problem since the beginning of this series. I mean, okay, S1 did have a few characters with actual visual tears in their eyes... but even then, it was a grand total of two. Arvo in S2 also has tears. Michonne also had tears towards the end of ep 3, but I think that's it for characters actually seen crying, unless you include Gabe and Fern, since they have red puffy eyes. How many characters does that make total? Six. Out of lord knows how many characters across the entire series to date.

To be honest though, it's not really a case of the characters not crying... it's just a case of them not having tears.

There's a lot of scenes where it is very clearly implied the character is crying, they just didn't add any tears. Examples being:

    • Lee, when he has to put down his brother, when he shoots Duck, after Ben and Kenny die, and when he's dying at the end of ep 5

    • Hershel, after Shawn dies

    • Irene (the motel girl)

    • Lilly, after Larry dies

    • Katjaa, during most Duck scenes in ep 3

    • Kenny, after Sarita's death

    • Leland, after Dee is killed by Bonnie

    • Christa, after Omid dies, and when she thinks he's dead in Around Every Corner

    • Sarah, after Carlos' death

    • Bonnie, after Luke's death

    • Rebecca, when Alvin dies in ep 2, and throughout ep 4

    • Nick, when he learns Pete died

    • Sam (from Michonne), after Greg dies, as well as her dad

    • John, James, and Alex (also from Michonne), after learning Greg died, and later, their dad

    • Jonas (from Michonne), if you kill Zachary

    • Javier's mom, after Pa dies

    • Javier, after Mari is killed, when David dies, when Kate dies, and when Gabe dies

    • Gabe (granted, he has red eyes from crying), when David/Kate die

    • Clementine (during most scenes regarding Duck's death, the meatlocker when Larry dies, when Lee tells her they can't look for her parents at the end of ep 4, Kenny's S3 death, Jane's S3 death, when AJ is taken away from her, when Omid dies, when she kills the dog, and probably more I forgot)

    • Conrad, after the fall of Prescott/death of Francine

    • Fern (also has red eyes from cying), after losing her daughter (and possibly Rufus)

All of those characters were technically crying during those scenes, there just weren't any tears. And even the two characters who have been seen with actual tears in their eyes-- Kenny and Clementine-- still have multiple scenes where they don't have any tears.

  • Those are all really good points.

Lee, when he has to put down his brother, when he shoots Duck, after Ben and Kenny die, and when he's dying at the end of ep 5
Javier, after Mari is killed, when David dies, when Kate dies, and when Gabe dies

Huh. I thought that was intentional.

    Kenny, after Sarita's death

Was he supposed to be crying there? I always just took it as him being extremely pissed off to the point of not saying much.

    Sarah, after Carlos' death

Yeah, that one is a good point. I guess I was so distracted by the fact that she wasn't wearing glasses to notice that. Well that and remembering that she's Hispanic.

For Lee/Javi, I could see it as being partly intentional, but still, could have at least had their eyes well up or something.

For Kenny, I meant more the scene where you axe her, or when he's in the tent... doubly so if you didn't cut off her arm, meaning he had to do it.

I guess an old man dying is sadder than a little girl getting shot in the head.

Unless I'm forgetting something, Kate really gets over Mariana's death easily, (as long as she has sexy Javier to make kissy faces at, she's okay)

  • Huh. Never really put too much thought into it. Probably cause they were 4 years in and she was bleeding internally. At the very least, Mariana probably didn't even realize what happened before she flew out and avoided being the one on that table, even if that would've been preferable for most of us.

  • I think he means Danielle, in which case I'm pretty sure it was Jolene they raped and they're taking Danielle away regardless led her to make assumptions.

    "Hel-lo, Jane!"
    "How are you?"
