Ship?

When did ship become a term for relationship?

Why are people that fucking lazy?

  • At least a decade? Maybe more?

  • I hate people so much. At least it's better than bae. Changing relationship to ship actually reduces syllables.

Very edgy, I guess Javi was right about the world getting dark and all.

  • That's not laziness. When people use "ship" that way, it's always in reference to a fictional relationship they support. It's more like a nerdy codeword. It's not about scaling down the full word, since nobody has ever said, "omg, I relationship them!" Nobody goes around saying they are in a ship with their new significant other, after all. Or if they are, it'd obviously be a joke.

A true example of laziness in language usage is typing "u" rather than "you". Just as one example.

  • Society these days and the way kids are growing up makes me very sad indeed.

  • That sentiment has absolutely no meaning because every single generation of kids has been looked down upon by the generations that preceded them. It's just a way to express frustration while getting absolutely nothing productive done. It's especially hilarious coming from the really old people who recall the times when it was the norm for children to be as racist and homophobic as their families. Ahh, good times.

I'm in the process of becoming a teacher and have interacted quite a bit with the current generation. Guess what? They're doing just fine. Some will overachieve and become tomorrow's doctors, some will take up the smaller but absolutely necessary jobs in society, and some will keep fucking up until life kicks them in the ass just like it does to us all. And so the wheel of society keeps turning.

  • It's not lazy. It's just a term that you don't even have to use. Is it a trend now to just hate everything?

  • The way adults behave is even sadder.

  • Sure it is. It's incredibly lazy. Stupid too.

And hating on people is not new.

  • Good a place as any to complain over the smallest stuff.

  • It's a bloody word and it's outright childish to complain about something so small and is literally hurting nobody.

  • Yeah, and I'm sure you've made that same argument on complaints about a video game. Which the same could be said for.

Or maybe it's far more childish, not to mention hypocritical to rip on a person for having an opinion about something small that hurts nobody while on a forum where people do the same for just as small and painless things everyday.

    But all relationships do.

  • Criticizing a video game is quite different from giving people shit for using a word.

  • You could always google the term to find out why it exisits. You'll even find out that it's been around for a long time!

That would be the non-lazy thing to do after all...

  • There was a time kids were playing in the park, kicking a football around, playing in the back garden. There was a time they could go in the street on there own. Now they can no longer go anywhere on there own, kids rarely do those things i said now because the norm is burying their heads in their phones, something we are all guilty of.

Growing up in the 90s i never saw "as many" kids at the age of 12, smoking/drinking and swearing like it was their vocabulary or girls that young dressed like they're 25, full on make up the works. When i was at school the majority of kids would be afraid to talk back to the teachers. Sure, some answered rudely back then of course, but now i just hear most kids do, reports of students punching teachers in the face. Kids have power over teachers and people these days because they cry abuse to get someone fired from their jobs and what not. When i was at school you would hear things once a week that the teacher says during assembly that such and such a student's money was stolen from their lockers, nowadays its every single day according to my friend's son.

Im not questioning you as a teacher and sure not every school, place or parent's kids are like the above i mentioned and i know that there have always been problems since time began but the fact is that the way things are these days are much worse than they used to be.

  • Well, kids aren't the way they are just because. They're raised by adults. These same adults blame it on the kids.

  • That one initially confused the heck out of me. So did the term "wank". People online were always saying "No wank allowed" or "Don't post wank material"... I assumed "wank material" was the same as "spank material". Had no clue it meant no drama until someone finally clarified for me.

  • Except that these days the parents are still kids themselves when they give birth. Like i said, not everyone are bad parents and they are not solely to blame for it. Technology, social media, influence from tv and hanging with the wrong crowd are examples that result in exactly the same thing though. It is what it is.

I think you just answered your own question just now. If you "Ship" a "Relation" between two people, you're supporting a "Relation-Ship." Get it?

  • I get out all the time. And I have a lot of younger friends. Doesn't get used around here.

    You should get out more

  • Sure haven't.
