  • I'm going to leave out the Michonne mini series/400 Days DLC and focus on the main series

    1. No Time Left: short compared to other S1 episodes, but didn't miss a beat because of it. It was short because that's all it needed, nothing was rushed, but there weren't any moments that killed the pacing. Choices came back and had a decent impact, and it had one of the best endings to a video game that has ever been made.
    2. No Going Back: Some give this episode crap, but with the exception of the Russian shootout, this was a fantastic episode. It had some great character moments, offered us multiple endings (that was made redundant thanks to ANF), and presented with one of, if not the most, difficult choices I've ever had to make in a Telltale game.
    3. A House Divided: Along with having two different openings based on the last choice from the previous episode, it had some nice choice impact, and in my opinion, did the best in capturing the change in perspective that came with playing as Clementine. Despite how much she grew, she's still a sort of helpless kid, and the way she deals with problems is different than how Lee, or any adult, would deal with them. You are placed in the shows of a child growing up in the apocalypse, and this is where it's best felt. It also had the introduction of Carver and Kenny's return.
    4. Thicker Than Water: Despite how disappointing ANF was, I love this episode. Along with having the best Clementine flashback of the season (which included seeing Kenny again), it had some great writing and didn't struggle with any issues in the pacing, unlike other episodes this season. There was a surprising focus to this episode and a surrounding theme of trust and betrayal, as well as some choices that deal with morality and friendship.
    5. In Harms Way: This, along with Amid The Ruins, are the most criticized episodes of S2, but I love this episode. Despite a lack of playing time as Clem, I feel we really got to know Carver more as a villain, such as his mentality and philosophy to survival and leadership. The 400 Days cast was wasted, but there are a lot of memorable scenes in this episode that surely make up for it.
    6. Starved For Help: A bit overrated, but a great episode nonetheless, even if it is kind of fillery. The St. John's are cool villains, even if we have seen it before in TWD world. And while A New Day does more to establish the main plot of the season, this is the episode where it feels like there's something special about this game and really get sucked into it. The motel segment is one of the toughest, but also one of my favorite, moments in the game series, and the episode offers some difficult choices throughout it, such as with Larry and what to do with the St. John's.
    7. A New Day: It server as a great start to the series and introduces the characters very effectively, especially the arc of our main character, Lee. Along with some tie ins and references to the comics, it's clear from this episode that Telltale knew what they were doing with this game. Many were up in arms when Telltale made the announcement of a TWD game, hell, I was a bit skeptical when I first heard about this game, but after playing it, my worries went out the window.
    8. All That Remains: This episode has grown a lot on me ever since I first played it, don't let it's low ranking on this list make you think I don't like this episode. I'm one of the few that likes the Omid death as it establishes the darker tone of the season, and the stitching scene in the shed shows how much Clem has grown and changed in the 2 years that have passed since the end of Season 1. It is kind of slow and doesn't do a lot to move the story forward, but it was more of an episode to establish the new characters and reintroduce us to Clem, and I think the episode handled that very well.
    9. Long Road Ahead: From a writing standpoint, this episode does very little wrong, it's one of the strongest written episodes in the series, and there are some amazing Lee/Clem moments that help develop the practical father/daughter relationship between the two. What bugs me is a couple of choices that have little to no impact (bringing Lilly along after she kills Doug/Carley), and the train puzzle segment, which brings the episode to a grinding halt and completely stops the momentum of the episode. And just when the episode gets going again, it slows down again with the tanker.
    10. Above The Law: An improvement from the premiere episode(s), but only slightly. There isn't a lot of playing time as Javi, Clint and Lingard going along with Joan's plan makes no sense, and it's the last time we ever see Max, even if we kept him alive.
    11. Ties That Bind: Too big for one episode, what a load of bull. Our endings from S2 have the laziest resolutions to them, there is no change in Clem as a result of them outside of a few lines of dialogue, very little time is spent in getting to know the new cast of characters. Some good hub segments, it sets up Javi's character arc nicely, and offered a few shocking moments, but much like with the rest of the season, it was clear that it changed drastically from what was originally planned, and not in a good way.
    12. Amid The Ruins: Choices don't matter, characters are killed pathetically, and, with the exception of a few scenes, the writing is pretty weak. Jane gets a lot of development and it has a lot of hubs throughout (probably the most of any episode in S2), but it isn't enough to counteract the episode's glaring flaws.
    13. Around Every Corner: Nothing but filler and missed opportunities. This is arguably the longest episode of S1, and that wouldn't be a problem if there was something of actual substance in the episode. Molly is a great character, but Crawford was built and hyped up so much, that the reveal of it being infested with walkers was ultimately disappointing. From the moment they arrive in Savannah to Lee getting bit, almost nothing is important or relevant to the story. And Chuck, who is still one of my favorite characters, had the worst death in the entire series (yes, worse than Nick and Ava's)
    14. From The Gallows: Utter fucking shit from start to finish, the only episode I can say I actually hate. Choices are phenomenal, but it's clear that's where the bulk of the effort went to with this episode, and as a result, it doesn't focus enough on the writing and pacing, which are the biggest problems with this episode. Character motivations and behaviors are erratic, it was drastically changed and rewritten, scenes (such as Clem's flashback) were cut, character and story arcs have poor or no resolutions, and it cheaply sets up the next installment.
  • 5 x 3 = 15
And I don't know what I hate but I love "Starved for help"

  • Oh wait pt 1 and 2

i only want to do anf so here:

    1. thicker than water: i feel like the flashbacks were a nice addition to the episode actually, especially clementine's. the writing was good for the most part, other than the gabe outburst. the joan hanging david situation was interesting, and stuff nicely set up what could've been encountered in the next episode.
    2. above the law: it was alright, an improvement from the first two. there was like hardly any gameplay, which was one of the largest issues this episode. joan's motives didn't make sense completely, but the episode was interesting at least. i like how whether you give the gun to conrad or not affects his status, and i liked the role that conrad played in the episode overall.
    3. ties that bind part 2: not a solid episode, super short. but it did set up some arcs, such as gabe's and really made me like his character for some reason. i like how it didn't seem like they were stepping towards forced romance with clementine and gabe, like when gabe rolls his eyes and brushes it off when javi brings clementine up to him. i wish they would've kept that focus.
    4. ties that bind part 1: way too short for a premiere, you don't really get to know much about any of the characters, which is vital for an ideal first episode. marianna is killed off way too quickly as well.
    5. from the gallows: worst episode of not only the season, but the entire series. the only thing i liked about the episode, which made me enjoy it initially when i was watching it, was the treatment of gabe's character. i am aware of the fact that some people claim it's lazy writing how they 180'd his character, but i completely anticipated that it would happen because everything about his character was building up to that. he became more likable, which caused him to lose a lot of the hate he was recieving post episode four. his death scene actually got an emotional reaction out of a good portion of the fanbase, which was unexpected. the memorial scene with gabe was nice as well, and i like how him wanting to go with his dad was actually him trying to help his dad, and i don't necessarily percieve it as inconsistent writing in this case. but other than that, the episode was pretty shitty. most of the writing was terrible, clem is respecting david when she hated the hell out of him a day ago, the truck crashing with kate was just a cheap cliffhanger, they somehow forgot kate was shot two days ago, characters that the writers didn't want to deal with casually disappeared, the episode was incredibly short, the plot consisted of basically nothing, so many scenes are incredibly forced, there's barely any actual gameplay involved, no hubs, kate wanting to save richmond so badly, making david fight you regardless of whether you were romantic with kate or not, cringey scenes (kate kissing javi, oh my fucking god it was so forced), clem kissing gabe (this would've made more sense if you didn't get it from the jane ending and they knew each other for QUITE SOME TIME because we all know how clem is), david is a soldier yet he doesn't want to save richmond although he literally lead the fucking place, cashcow milking cliffhanger, and probably much more.
  • Its a bit hard to explain, but I just really love the sense of dread. Characters are beaten down and losing hope, but try to come together for Rebecca despite the circumstances. Jane's development was fantastic and I loved how she tutored Clem about survival while also losing that tough exterior when memories of her sister start breaking through. The choices aren't great I won't lie, but as a movie experience it has all the right character beats and pacing.
