More wasted potential? Uncle Pete or Chuck?

These two died too early but which do you think had potential that was wasted in their deaths?

Chuck the homeless man who carried hard candy
or
Uncle Pete

  • Definitely Chuck. After all, he was the one who told Lee to teach Clem how to shoot and cut her hair short. If Chuck never showed up Clem probably wouldn't even be alive today.

Chuck had way more potential than Pete.

I expected Chuck to be the moral-compass of the group for the next few episodes when he appeared. But no, Telltale just had to kill him off-screen. He had the potential of being one of the most memorable characters in Season 1.

As for Pete, he kind of served his purpose by finding Clem in the forest and sacrificing himself to save Clem (if you followed him in Episode 1's ending). His death also served a purpose by making Nick more unstable, which led to the many future events in Season 2.

  • Charles far and away.

  • RIP Chuck. You were a good hobo.

  • This is hard for me, as I wasn't really that interested in either. I never did figure out what I would've done with Chuck and Pete's death was a necessary plot point even if the main recipient of that was relatively irrelevant to the rest of the story.

  • Chuck did his deed, died a noble death. He served his purpose. Pete did fucking nothing, did not die a noble death, served no purpose. He was just wasted.

  • Considering he hobbled out as a distraction so Clementine can get away if she ran to him, I'm not sure why you'd say that.

  • Pete. I feel like Chuck pretty much played his role with the whole "Lee's a bad parent" speech. But Pete had the potential to be a group leader.... and one far superior to Luke or Kenny.

  • Pete was a total dick to his own nephew in front of a kid! Not really leader material to me.

  • Really? You are going to defend Nick of all people?

Pete was a total dick to his own nephew in front of a kid! Not really leader material to me.

  • Nick's my boy and all, but he almost shot Clementine 2 minutes after meeting her. And he DID shoot Matthew. Pete was justifiably firm with him, but that doesn't make him a dick. A good leader does need to be stern most of the time, just not overly cruel (ala Carver)

  • Telling a story about how when he was a kid and cried does make him a dick to me. Was that story to instill confidence in Clem? Plus when he gets bit he pretty much abandons Nick and tells Clem to come with him, then locks himself in the truck with her. He should have sent Clem to Nick and drawn the walkers away he's already a dead man. Nick is a tool but maybe if we hadn't heard that story about him we would have seen him as a more useful or tougher tool.

  • Pete easily. Chuck gave Lee a reality check and bought the group some time driving the plot forward in a way Pete didn't. Pete gets bit in a stupid way (similar to Lee) and dies within a few scenes of meeting him all while having no pertinence to anything that was happening. Nick was already trigger happy and needed an attitude adjustment.
