That one initially confused the heck out of me. So did the term "wank". People online were always saying "No wank allowed" or "Don't post wa… morenk material"... I assumed "wank material" was the same as "spank material". Had no clue it meant no drama until someone finally clarified for me.
I don't like the term not so much because it's lazy but because I can't separate it from its most common association which is with boats. I'd rather use "pairing"

Okay, I take serious issue with you immediately assuming that at a certain point in time everyone was racist and/or homophobic. From where do you get this assumption? I ask because you are a teacher and you are supposed to be an enlightened individual shaping the minds of future generations. If you believe that there was a time where people were inherently racist and/or homophobic, then I seriously question whether you should be a teacher because that is an ignorant stance to take unless you are prepared to back this up with facts.
So tell me, which time period are you referring to?
That sentiment has absolutely no meaning because every single generation of kids has been looked down upon by the generations that preceded … morethem. It's just a way to express frustration while getting absolutely nothing productive done. It's especially hilarious coming from the really old people who recall the times when it was the norm for children to be as racist and homophobic as their families. Ahh, good times.
I'm in the process of becoming a teacher and have interacted quite a bit with the current generation. Guess what? They're doing just fine. Some will overachieve and become tomorrow's doctors, some will take up the smaller but absolutely necessary jobs in society, and some will keep fucking up until life kicks them in the ass just like it does to us all. And so the wheel of society keeps turning.
Exactly, it was already commonly used in the 90's
I see nothing wrong, since it's an efficient word to express something.
And surely less lazy than TT for telltale or TWD, ANF, WTF and others oftenly used here.
I almost forgot LOL
You could always google the term to find out why it exisits. You'll even find out that it's been around for a long time!
That would be the non-lazy thing to do after all...
when it was the norm for children to be as racist and homophobic as their families.
This doesn't mean everyone was racist and homophobic, but a majority of people, which is true to some degree or another. You don't have to openly spew hatred to be racist or homophobic; racial segregation was a generally accepted concept well into the 1960s, and homosexuals had to hide their sexuality or become social outcasts for most of history, which is only possible if said society allows this to happen.

Sweeping generalizations are nice because you never really seem to have to back the statements up with facts. Statements like 'This doesn't mean everyone was racist and homophobic, but a majority of people, which is true to some degree or another.' are assumed to be true based upon one's current understand or point of view.
You cite racial segregation from the 1960s being an accepted concept as an example of racism. Are you sure that racial segregation was motivated by racist views if people generally accept the concept (Because non-whites accepted it too you know)? People at that time could've viewed bathrooms segregated by race exactly the same way that bathrooms are separated by sex today; they may have viewed it as a harmless biological difference and nothing more. Show me the scientific data gathered during the 1960s that demonstrates that this separation was truly because of racist views as opposed to a revisionist's view upon history to fan the flames of racial hatred (which is far more damaging, causing realized costs in terms of private property, individual rights, and literally causing the deaths of others).
Homophobia is really only prevalent in the middle east where they are murdered for their acts. Even at the 'height' of homophobia in the USA, gay people enjoyed the same freedoms of everyone else because America. And let me preempt your argument on gay marriage right here by stating that marriage is defined by religious institutions, not the state.
