Why so much hate for David?
In the recent AMA, I asked if telltale hates David because:
-he only lives in 1 ending
-you can kick him out in that ending
-even if he isn't kicked out, he isn't even at the end, not grieving over Kate, not checking on people, not even just sitting in the backround. I got this ending and I was disappointed in his disappearance.
They said that they really like David, then where is he at the end? Why does he die in all endings except one? Them, saying they like him smells really bad to me. (Poop smells really bad(

David dying felt like an appropriate end to his character arc honestly. The ending where he lives is so out of place it feels like it was rushed in just to show that choices matter.
Honestly, him not showing up in the ending makes sense for his character, and who he was established to be. I think the problem is that people are expecting him to grieve like the average person would, like Kate or Gabe do in their respective endings... but if there's one thing we can infer about David-- from the way he acts, his temperament, his insecurities, his life experiences, his background as a soldier, and so forth-- it's that he doesn't handle most things the way the people around him do. Him distancing himself from everybody, refusing to talk to anyone and work through things on his own? It makes a lot more sense than him being in the church, crying alongside Gabe and Javi. He's just not the type of character to respond in that way. Nothing that we've seen really suggests that he does. Even after his father died, we didn't see him in the house with everyone else... nope, he was sitting out on the front porch and drinking. He's not the type of person that involves other people with his feelings. Some people might like to have a shoulder to lean/cry on during hard times, but David? David would rather people keep their distance from him and let him work through things on his own, unless losing some teeth is on their list of things to do.
I mean yeah, it sucks we don't see him again if he came back to Richmond, but it fits with how they established his character, so I'd excuse it.
As I've said elsewhere, I hated David at first because of the whole possessive borderline-abuse husband vibe the flashbacks gave us, but he really grew on me later, especially in the fourth and (especially) fifth episode. His "a soldier is a soldier, nothing else" line and the whole end scene if he lives were outstanding and really helped to sympathize and contexualize him.
He sees life as a constant war and himself as a soldier in it, even before the apocalypse. He'd rather use that excuse to shirk responsibilities rather than deal with them. He's actually a super complex character and it sucks that so many people see him as a lesser clone of Kenny.
I liked David's character, can't say he is a good man but also I can't say he doesn't have good intentions (basically he's Kenny 2.0), and I think he is by far the most well written character from ANF (except for the ones that already existed before). I got the ending where he died, and tbh I didn't like the fact the he died offscreen, I think he deserved something bigger, more impactful.
I thought this was a serious question.
No offense.
He dies bleeding out and reminiscing with you if you try to save him and Gabe alone.
Much more impactful and fitting.
I fell like Tripp is more of a Kenny 2.0 and David is just hot-headed. I really liked all 3 of them, yet they all die.
