Should ANF episode one been a flashback?
While i know people's opinion on flashbacks does anyone believe it should of been a flashbach with maybe a few time jumps to show the progression of the group. They would have to add other characters to kill off in order to see the group go through some hardships. I believe it would of cleared some major problems if done right and could of made a reason for Gabe being a tryhard. Like maybe in the past he failed to save someone and has never really gotten over it. And then we could also get a better look at how they came to there circumstance by the first episode.

It would be nice to find out how Javier and his family spent 4 YEARS IN THE APOCALYPSE in a damn minivan without running into another group.
Well, I don't think the entire thing should have been considered a flashback, but I do agree that more should have been shown in that 4 year time skip. It would have given much more time to expand upon our knowledge of the Garcias, explain many questions we have about their survival, and just have a better, more fleshed-out, longer episode.
The opening was pretty good, showing how they handled the first few minutes of the outbreak, but then the game throws us 4 years into the future, current time, and presents us with this group of people we know barely anything about. They've had 4 years to develop who they are to eachother and to the world in this apocalyptic setting. We've only had 5 minutes. If we had more opportunities to see and shape who they are before we got to the main "Mariana-getting-shot" plot, it could have turned out a bit better.
Well, Gabe mentions to Javi if you interact with him in the junkyard that they have been with other people... just not for too long.
[paraphrasing]
Javi: What's wrong, bud?
Gabe: I'm sick of being in this van so much! I want to be back with people!
Javi: You know the rules Gabe... It's safer if we're on the move.
Now, those aren't the exact lines, but based on whatever Gabe really said, it sounds like yes, they did tangle with other people, and have been with other groups. They probably just moved on or got kicked out or something... which is why they're in the van a bunch.
There definitely should have been some flashbacks to show how the Garcia's got by without even having to switch cars. Even if not all in the first episode, sprinkled throughout the series. The flashback of them before leaving the house 3 months in was cool, but showing us more would have helped the audience bond with the family so much more, as well as making it much more believable.
Clem dreams for a flashback. Some old lady is like "My neck, my back, pet my puppy and my Cat."
