Honestly it would have been really good to have Gabe & Mariana's survival be up to what Javier tells them. Not just one random line or decision, but pretty much several choices to teach them, and whoever received the best advice survives. Also I would have liked to see Clementine have a friend that's pretty much on the other side of the coin. We were kind of close to that with Sarah, but she was a bit older and had mental problems. Mariana seems to be the same age if I'm not mistaken.

Now that's a concept. Cause honestly, one of my gripes with Mariana is how she was given almost all of the sentimental focus over the other two with very little in the way of actual teamwork/survivalism and vice versa, implied backstory reasons or not.
