Categorizing Clementine's mentors throughout her life

LEE - Humanity

CHRISTA - Practicality

KENNY - Family

JANE - Resourcefulness

Anyone I've missed? Do you think I assigned the categories correctly?

    Vernon - Opportunist

  • I suppose he popped into my head because he wanted to take Clementine, and that's what he probably would've taught her.

    Lee: Basic Survival Skills/Responsibility

Christa: Practicality/Reality (By reality, I mean exposing Clementine to the true dark side of the human life. I'd imagine Clem & Christa surviving together for 16 months was pretty dark, especially if Christa's baby died during the time-skip.)

    Luke: Humanity/Compassion

    Kenny: Family/Loyalty

    Jane: Advanced Survival Skills/Resourcefulness

I know Luke probably doesn't count as a mentor, but I personally think he "unofficially" taught Clem the meaning of humanity. I mean, he was the one who taught Clem how family is the most important thing in the world + he was like a true big brother to Clem. That has to count for something, right?

  • I think Luke totally counts.

  • Lol I think Walter is even more minor than Vernon, or at the very most on the same level, so it's kind of odd you would mention that, but you know! You both have valid points about Vernon and Walter though.

  • Walter wasn't around for a long time but constantly discussing things with Clem and challenging her intellectually from the moment they met, unlike Vernon.

  • Yah. Javi tried to be that. We know how that turned out.

PERIOD KNOWLEDGE goes to Javier by the way

  • That's partly because Vernon was around during Lee's game, not Clementine's. And that was more an alliance of convenience than anything else.

Hell, I don't even recall him ever speaking to Clementine.

Poor bastard died for setting an example not to do.

  • Lee - swearing
    "Like SHIT! right Lee?

  • MOTHERLY - Edith (Determinant)

  • That is pretty much my original point when someone suggested that Clem learned anything from Vernon

  • Lee - Father figure. Clementine isn't his daughter but she is the first person she meets in ZA and he took care of her until his death.

Kenny - Uncle. Kenny takes over guardianship of Clementine in season 2. They have shared a lot of experiences and I think she (determinantly) sees him as family.

Christa - It's hard to say, as we only see a couple of scenes with Clementine under Christa's leadership, even though they were together for a long time. I guess you could say that Chirsta was the most responsible, level headed out of Clementine's other guardians.

Jane - Big sister and mentor. Jane bonds with Clementine and teaches her stuff like effective ways to take down walkers, what weapons to use and other general advice on how to survive.

  • I think he was joking, but okay.

  • There's one other "mentor" I forgot: Carver.

What would his category be? Darkness?

  • Did Carver really teach her anything besides "how to be a egotistical dick"? Kenny and especially Jane did a far better job of that, for better or worse.

  • You're right, they barely interacted. Maybe Vernon as a "mentor" is a stretch. I think what they were trying to say is that she could have learned something from Vernon, given what he did with the boat. Depending on how you play Clementine, she could have reflected on the theft that as an opportunity, or it would give her another large reason to not trust anyone, regardless of how harmless they seem.

Although yeah, maybe Vernon would be categorized as more of an influential person (or that being an influential situation, even) than a mentor. Walter did have much more interaction with Clementine, so I take back what I said earlier. Walter would have had much more of an effect on Clementine on a personal level.

Walter wasn't around for a long time but constantly discussing things with Clem and challenging her intellectually from the moment they met, unlike Vernon.

  • Did Clementine even know about the boat being stolen?

Power.. survival of the fittest.. doing whatever it takes to survive, taking out the weak man if it means keeping the strong ones, it gives you a option to agree with his choices for a reason as Clem, but I dont see him as a mentor
