Do you think New Fronteir would have been better if...?
It was just a spin-off that did not feature Clementine at all, or if it was released with Clementine but had kept 100% of the original story without scrapping intriguing plot points such as the slaughterhouse, Max original fate, and the Sandra/Lee prelude flashbacks?

I don't know what you mean about Sandra/Lee. But it should have been a quick three parter like Michonne and I think everyone would have been a lot happier!
Would've been better without Clementine, but for her own sake, and should've worked as a spinoff. Her presence in the season felt unnecessary and she easily could've been replaced with another character who had their "child" taken away by New Frontier.
There was suppose to be a flashback of Clem recalling the start of the zombie apocalypse with her baby sitter the day before meeting Lee.
Might have been cool.
Maybe better without Clementine. Though in the event of the alternative, I'm glad they changed Max's original fate, which they still could've given to another character.
As someone who loves Clementine, yes, the game would have been much better without her. She really served no purpose whatsoever, she was just there to attract the old fans and make it feel like a legitimate entry in the series. The entire time, her presence felt more like an after thought rather than an essential element to the story, and that's insulting to her character, and worst of all, that's insulting to the fans.
They pretty much lined up all the fans and went down the row slapping them in the face. Kenny fans, Jane fans, Clem fans maybe even AJ fans by not completing the arc about finding him before New Frontier concluded so just fans of the game in general until that point.
Maybe it was punishment for criticizing season 2.
People were angry when episode 1 and 2 came out. It was episodes 4 and 5 that made more people happier
Yeah... I know it's a story game but it's a zombie apocalypse and they weren't supposed to be true stories in the first place, just surviving and killing zombies.
New Fronteir would have been better if.... the writers are as good as season 1
So simple yet so true.
A New Frontier would have been much better if it didn't EXIST and Telltale never cancelled Season 3.
Max's current fate (If spared) is a lot worse than Max's original fate. Writing him out of the story is one of the worst decisions they could have done.
To be fair, I don't think they wrote him out so much as just didn't come up with something for him to do during the major rewrites. Though I am disappointed that they didn't do anything else with him, as you can kinda tell they almost certainly would've had they stuck with what was being set up, I'll take what we got as a minor missed opportunity than an overt plot hole.
And honestly, I truly believe giving him his original fate(assuming it was possible to outright save him of course) would've been the lesser option. At the very least--and this applies to his character as a whole--, what we got instead offered a much more gray portrayal for his character as a lawful thugface in on politician approved backdoor dealings than if he was just this mean crook out and in that's acting as a pseudo-slavedriver for some reason.
A New Frontier would have been better if there weren't so many rewrites. Though I am glad Max's fate was changed.
Maybe it would have been better without Clementine as well. She was just there to attract the old fans.
tbh I would have been ok with leaving Clem's story at her season 2 ending or even skipping a season before picking it up. I agree her presence was forced and unnecessary in ANF. The Garcias were not bad characters. The pacing was a large part of the problem. The game feels like a DLC minigame despite having 5 episodes bc its rushed thru. Telltale could have cut out a lot of the bs and it would have been a perfectly acceptable entry to the series.
Clearly not a popular opinion, but I liked having Clem for this season. It gave me a chance to have what I wanted in season 2, to see how Clem would have developed after season 1. I think it is far more interesting to interact with Clem and see how she developed than it is to play as her. And ANF gave me that.
The ANF was not perfect, but I liked. And the problems I had with it were not around Clem.
I liked having clem in this season, but i think the game would have been better received by the people here if she was not in ANF at all.
It might of been better received but they knew they'd have even less sales than now possibly because I suppose without Clementine.. it wouldn't be as profitable as even now.
I liked ANF but let’s say I have the opinion of the majority of people. I think ANF would be great as a reboot after the final season of Clens story comes and it wouldn’t feature Clem. so yeah it’s better as a spin off because the 2% of newcomers actually enjoyed it ANF because they didn’t know Clem.
Absolutely. Clem served as a distraction.
I have mixed feelings about A New Frontier. I have a lot of complaints, but there is plenty of things I do like about it. Honestly, Javier's family drama was the strong point. Clem was there just to appease the base and take her from the Season 2 endings to the start of Season 4. She was basically a side character that could have been easily replaced. I think it would have been more interesting if she had been replaced. Then, we wouldn't have gotten the "90% of the people side with Clem" statistics. I know it's a little silly to be annoyed about the percentages, but personally I feel a good choice is one that isn't so heavily biased. That means it was a hard one and made people think on it and later feel it when they took the consequences. The exception is established characters like Batman. Many of us who played it like Batman because he's Batman. Thus, it's understandable that the percentages are a little high since we all have our preconceived notions of what Batman is like.
Of course, it also hurts it when things that WE established for our Clems are overwritten. Did we make sure that our Clem was not a thief? Well, too bad. Was our Clem proactive and getting shit done? Well, that's unfortunate. She's more than happy to manipulate Javi into starting the generator (at least, she is kinda justified if you agreed with Conrad, but in my first playthrough, I kept thinking, "My 11 year old Clem would be doing this if no one else volunteered, why is this supposedly more badass Clem manipulating Javier into doing it). It makes less sense if Clem was alone since she would have been more comfortable doing it than the Kenny/Jane endings. I suspect most of us had at least one moment when we were like, "My Clem shouldn't be doing that."
But back to my original point, I think the New Frontier did a pretty good job with Javier's family. David was a complicated character who was easy to hate, but sympathize with at the same time (yeah, considering I have a few lazy family members in my extended family that are similar to how Javier was described pre-zombies, I get David's frustration). While Gabe does seem a bit too soft for someone supposedly on the road for the last 4-5 years, his frustration with himself and possibly Javi about taking on adult responsibilities is understandable (even if I do want to smack him around a few times, "Seriously, you're going to blame me for shooting the guy who was holding a gun to your head, next time I'll let them do it"). Kate.... OK. She was kinda weak. Her pure and utter disdain for David makes it hard to accept a "love triangle." Honestly, that she and David actually got married is one of the most unbelievable points in A New Frontier. And it's not exactly the most solid story in terms of logic (seriously, how was Mari in a room with zombie grandpa and not get attacked?/did those bullets work? was Clem's gun just jammed? why didn't Eli freak out immediately when she started pointing her gun at him and started firing? why did he freak out after he seemed to imply that they were bad?/why the Hell does Conrad want to give Clem to New Frontier? sure, he says they can get help for Kate and other things, but isn't the most important thing to him at that moment revenge?). Honestly, Kenny and Lilly seem to have a warmer relationship than David and Kate. She's not a terrible character. Just comes off as generic love interest. But despite complaints, I feel the family drama was the best part of A New Frontier. Clem detracts from that. It's hard getting us care about a new character's problems when you keep teasing us with a character we've had two full games to get to know and care about. Instead of worrying about how Javi will navigate his relationships and save his family, most of us are like, "Give us more Clem. Let us play as Clem. What's Clem doing now?" There could have been more focus on the better part of the game if Clem wasn't there to distract people from it.
