Accept Richmond leadership or not?

I have been thinking about this a lot lately, but I still don't know if I made the right choice; I accepted to become the leader because I didn't want to send Javi & Gabe on the road again, but at the same time I don't think Javi would be a good leader for a so large community. The fact that he has(determinantly) caused the chaos in Richmond makes things even worse.

What do you guys think?

  • Well as it's been stated many times before, Javier's got no leadership skills and have absolutely zero experience in managing large, self-sufficient communities. He does care about his family, but loyalty and compassion aren't enough, you need charisma, willpower, open-mindedness and patience, and I'm more than certain Javier lacks at least two of the latter.

Also, if Richmond isn't a band of a mindless, nameless bystanders playing a background, they have no reason to trust a person like Javier to take over their community. Let's see:

    1. it falling apart was mainly his fault.
    2. they don't know him.
    3. he determinantly killed three of previous leaders and caused the death of the fourth one.
    4. he is brutal, ferocious and possibly crazy.
    5. he hangs out with the girl that know caused trouble before.

  • This guy in the green shirt doesn't even care that Javier is the leader. We all know this is the same guy who threw the molotov on the Armored Truck, trying to kill Kate.

  • I've always kind of thought thar Joan came back a few days later, and Javier got slaughtered.

  • Yeah, super laziness... And same thing for Clementine in episode 2, if you shoot Conrad, she's supposed to go away but we can still see her in the background when Javi finds Kate in the car... Still no fix about too.

  • In the ending where Lingard and David are still alive, we can imagine Javi and Eleanor could be part of the "new council" and replace Joan/Clint roles.

At least, it would be more logic instead that putting Javi alone as the leader of Richmond xD

  • Yeah thats a bullshit right there

  • Half of the models used this season are just shameless copies of each other, or faces covered with scarfs.

  • The choice isn't about whether you think Javi is a good leader. It's more about whether Javi is willing to step up or not.

  • It would mean that Javier stepped up to claim responsibility, but it isn't his responsibility to take. He isn't even in the place to be thinking about this.

  • I have refrained from talking about this. But I want to talk about this.

Frankly, it doesn't make sense of Javier to suddenly become the leader of Richmond or the fact that the people there even accepted him and his family as part of the community. If the story simply started out in Richmond, that Javier was already a part of the community there, then I would say it starts to be believable.

Over the course of the last three episodes, I don't even have this sense of attachment to Richmond. We as players aren't even allowed to explore the place and get to become familiar with it. Also the place and environment acted as an antagonist toward Javier and his group, so why should I feel attached to the place and people?

If the point of Episode 1-2 was to get Javier to Richmond, why didn't we start out in Richmond? We could have simply have Javier and his family leave with David during the flashback. A timeskip happened, starts out in Richmond and we learned how their lives have been during all these years. David is the leader the of the community, but as Javier becomes more important and influential, a power struggle starts happening between the two brothers. Clementine can either be part of the community or her arrival to the community brought news about a new and dangerous group which could have been The New Frontier which could have acted as the main antagonist force during the whole season.

The conflict escalated when The New Frontier killed Mariana, which put David on a warpath and increasing aggressive rule, which would in turn pushed the people of Richmond to turn to Javier for leadership, maybe because Javier is more level-headed or he is simply a better leader.

I'll stop rambling now. The point I am trying to make is, that the story was flawed. Many missed opportunities. I am no game developer or writer so there are many steps and process that I am not aware of, but I shouldn't feel that I could have written a better plot for the game.

  • Javier becoming the leader of Richmond is unrealistic and foolish. Every person living there likely knows someone who was killed because of Javier's actions, it is only a matter of time before another Fern situation happens.

Besides it being a dangerous mistake to try and lead a community you were just at war with, I would rather Javi focuses his attention on Gabe since i promised David on his deathbed that i would take care of his son.

  • But does Javi leave Richmond if he tells Jesus he doesn't want to be the leader?

  • Jesus asks Javi to at least stay and help until things are better. My guess is that Javi won't leave until Clem gets the option to come back to New Richmond or not

  • Honestly, the idea of Javier being an outright leader of anything is something I was very mixed on since Part 2.
