Kate's unknown status and the happiest s4 ending

In my ANF ending, Kate mysteriously disappeared and was presumed dead after teaming up with Clem to save New Richmond. I felt like it was rather odd for Telltale to give her a deliberately "unknown" status, and the community ama revealed that the writers left her fate open for other future possibilities (i.e. to return).

We also know that s4 will be Clementine's final installment, with her focused on finding AJ. I'm sure many of us can already see the joyous reunion already. But how amazing would it be if we were able to find Kate alive along the way and reunite her with Javi and Gabe? They would have miraculously found their loved ones and could now have a truly happy ending in New Richmond with their families being whole again.

I'm not saying it would be easy to give this much nuance to only one of the four endings, but it would certainly give a huge impact to our choices in ANF. Kate could also be a multiple determinant character like Conrad, it could be a huge challenge for Clem to actually get her back to New Richmond in one piece. And perhaps scenes could slightly change if Kate is with Clem.

TLDR; Kate is unknown in some endings, I think these players will find Kate during s4 and have the happiest s4 ending where Javi/Clem reunite with Kate/AJ.

  • Sounds cool, while there at it Kenny is missing for the Wellington ending, he could also be multi determinant this season and if Kate went missing and you went to Wellington, the final determinant choice for each of them is to choose between them, If only one is missing, it would be just a normal determinant choice.

  • That's an interesting idea. Clem has a final choice of where to go with AJ, and depending on all of your choices there are characters who will either go to A, go to B, will go where Clem goes no matter what, or go where Clem doesn't. There might not even be any characters with her in some games. It would be like Clem's decision at the end of ANF but with several determinant characters involved (unknown Kate, alive Kenny, Christa or whoever they bring back, New characters, etc.)

  • i agree. Althought it is possible for David to also be in this position since he can leave in the ending where both him and Gabe live.
And i think it would also make alot of sense seeing as David took care of AJ after Clem got kicked out.

  • yeah i agree telltale should do their best to make choices matter in this one last instalment of the series including several endings and several characters you can encounter during the story. ((Also just wanted to add David to your list of unknown characters since he can leave during the David and Gabe live ending .))

The David and Gabe ending should be very important as well. Imagine David actually breaking down and showing emotion when he sees AJ. I hate to say it but AJ probably remembers David more than Kenny. It would still be good for AJ to have a father figure around.

  • I didn't know Kate could go unknown, how do you get that?

  • Javier has to go after David and Gabe, but Clementine has to stay with Kate.

  • I for one would definitely love if Telltale were to bring to Kate back for some much needed limelight for the appropriate players to make up for the increasing amount of neglect she got in ANF. I'm not holding my breath, however.

  • I love that idea
