TFS: Who wants to see more of Clementine's parents?

edited September 2017 in The Walking Dead

I found it kind of odd that Clementine ONLY grieved and talked about Lee. Yeah, he played a significant part of her life but what about her parents? She spent a couple of months (maybe a year) with Lee, and 8 years with her parents.

Telltale please don't forget about her parents. If this is Clem's last time in the spotlight, put 110% effort into the game and dive into everything. Her past and future. Kinda like what ND did with Nathan Drake in UC4.

  • Agreed. Well here’s hoping that her parents appear in a flashback in The Finale Season.

  • Yeah, he played a significant part of her life but what about her parents?

    Fixed.

Glad to see my recent post rubbed off on someone.

  • Yeah, I'd like to see more about her parents and what her what her life was like prior to the apocalypse.
We briefly get to see that in the S2 E5 trailer here:

(You can skip it to 3:43 for the part, or better, just watch the whole dang trailer.)

From what we see, her Dad seems a bit strict to me...

  • Carlos is a dad that came off as a little too strict at times.

He's also another Shadow Archetype of Lee, for better or worse.

  • wait you made a post about this too? i had no idea, sorry

  • No, it just got a mention at the very end of my post in a recent ideas for Season 4 thread.

  • Glad to know there are people who still remember. The closest we got to anything in ANF was the "I wouldn't know" line in regards to Gabe making a comment about parents. More Ed and Diana, please TTG!

  • Sigh...I remember when I brought that up as an observation of a legitimately subtle bit of character/continuity back in December...only for it to quickly got overshadowed by a barrage of replies that was just people shitposting about Gabe.

Truly the signs of maturity and class.

  • What would be the point to bring them back? At this point she probably doesn't even remember them that much, not to mention she has more important things in mind.

Isn't obvious? Finding AJ, try to survive, if she finds him then what to do next? what could be the next step... I honestly don't think she's losing any sleep thinking over it (about her parents i mean).

  • The issue Season 2 had was that it focused on our memories of Season 1, rather than Clementine's. Not to say that's completely a bad thing because fans can get nostalgia for some old show moments, but when it solely focused on that than the character itself, that's when it becomes a problem.

If this is Clementine's last season, and the closing chapter to her story arc, then it's vital that her past is involved in that. Things about her parents, like what she remembers of them, or what they used to do together as a family. Does she have any regrets for taking things for granted with them? Do they influence her with wanting to take care of AJ?

The kids she used to be friends with at school or played with in her neighborhood, does Clem think about them or wonder if they're still alive? Is there even a chance of her meeting anybody she might recognize, like even a teacher or a neighbor that she can reconnect with?

We know she had a pet goldfish, and a hamster at some point from mention of them in Season 1, and that her favorite color is purple. And god I hate Gabe, but if they can recon that relationship by explaining Gabe reminded Clem of an old friend, or Duck or something, it'd at least make more sense on why she became attached so fast...or you know, she finds somebody else? Come on Telltale use those heads.

But being serious, you are right. Her parents have got to be involved. Personally I'd love to see the cabin group again one more time, or even the Motor Inn group in a flashback, but for Clemmy's sakes, I'd have to choose to a scene with her parents over those. That scene in the trailer for Episode 5 of Season 2, when she's speak to them on the phone, Clementine needs that connection shown in the game.

To be fair, if it wasn't for the kiss, I think the logic could've/might've been that she's sick of losing everyone closer to her age(ergo, that she'd be able to relate to on some level). Gabe was the most trained and proactive youth she ever met after the outbreak and even he determinately ended up getting done in due to his dad kidnapping him and no one coming to his rescue, which meant he just barely saved himself and thus it was already too late. So if he can't make it by a hair, what hope does she have of meeting someone else who won't just die on her?
Also, the whole young love angle(if you can call it that) was almost as unnecessary as Gabe becoming determinant, but that horse is barely skeletal at this point.

  • You've been here a while, now. I'm surprised you're surprised.

Ok, I'm done teasing. But yeah, that's typical TellTale forums right there. I still think this place was the worst during the Season 2/The Wolf Among Us run. I was literally scared to click or scroll through threads.

  • I have little experience with the wolf among us, but I have seen a couple of threads from Season 2. It was mostly just below tame, from what I remember.

  • I think it would be pointless to expand on her parents now, however flashbacks could prove to disentangle what concerns I may have regarding that? They seemed like interesting people, and it's very unfortunate we didn't know more.

  • Lots of threads were deleted, closed, etc. It was a bit messy. Mods helped clean it up.

Me neither, and its just weird if you ask me. As a teenager myself, I can tell you that 99.9% of us are emotional wrecks. Unless her parents were abusive or something, it doesn't make a lot of sense as to why she's never brought them up.
