GameReactor interviews Job J Stauffer on why Telltale decided to finish Walking Dead
GameReactor recently published an interview with Job J Stauffer on why Telltale decided that this Fourth Season will be Clementines final appearance. Moderators feel free to move this to Telltale Talk or something I posted it in Walking Dead forums as the interview solely focuses on Walking Dead. I also forgot to mention that at the end of the page there is a video of the interview. Sorry everyone
Huh. Looks like I was relatively on the money.
how n wut
They've basically decided that they've done enough with Clementine and thus just want to finally end it, to put it nicely.
I guess that's why ANF was Javi's story...
Pretty much. I'm sure it was truly meant to be both originally, but that changed at some point. Thicker than Water in particular is the most obvious about how superfluous her presence is.
Its funny he phrased it like that because i feel like ANF was basically continuing Clem's story for no reason and running her into the ground
Yeah the only way Clementine can be revived is if they forget about season 3 and start again from season 2 with Clementine at Wellington in my opinion. Season 3 has already ruined her.
Sounds more like they have gotten lost and limited in their direction of the walking dead. No idea what else to do with Clementine and not much else to do with Clementine over someone else who would be better received by the masses like Javi being the prototype and wasn't accepted too much and even got backlash. So without many options to make season 1 level quality again and to avoid angering the fans every other year they had to throw in the towel. Big as a cash cow walking dead is I don't see any real reason to suddenly end it since the show and comic are still going strong and probably even Fear spin off might make it to a fifth season before quitting while the games will end it all at season 4. I pray the best will be saved for last in their case though.
Looks like ANF was the trial and error, they tried to test the waters to see if the fanbase would move on from Clementine by trying to slowly shove her in the background, so after the negative reception and realising their series wont float without her it does seem like they're deciding to throw in the towel and just do one more definitive final season where we play as her. I feel like its kind of the right time to end her story, but the announcement came way sooner than I expected. Can't help but feel like there may be future elements of her character that we wont get to see since they're ending it next season, she's still only a teenager and I would have liked to see her age into adulthood.. but what can you do..
Still however, this definitely won't be the end of The Walking Dead for Telltale, I feel like they'll do better if after season 4 in a few years time they just advertise a new cast of characters without the promise of Clementine, that way they can focus on a new story without being limited by fan pressure. Just because Clem's story is ending I still don't think its the last we'll see of TWD.
Bruh.
I get the impression this is what they intend to do; Job's hints about Season 4 seem to place emphasis on it being the last we see of Clem, but not the last of Telltale's Walking Dead. I would not be surprised if they made one-off episodes, mini-series, or even full Seasons of Walking Dead that focused on new storylines and characters after Season 4 ends.
