  • Maybe a lot of action than TALE
And they didn't change the art/animation/engine...

  • S1 FLASHBACKS!

  • i guess we'll find out

  • Something tells me that it's going to be good.

  • preciously ;_;

    • Opening intro where we find Lilly. She is killed off within 5 minutes, game proceeds as normal.
    • Clementine meets an equally edgy teenager like herself, they do edgelord things and she shaves stars into Clem's cool new hair-do!
    • Clem finds AJ and decides whether to be a normal person and take care of him or whether to become full on edgelord and leave him behind. Jane's lessons ftw!!!
    • The entire series ends when Clem gets bit but shes okay with it because "everyone dies in this edgy world of ours"

Hopefully s4 is nothing like i just described.

  • If you were to ever be right about anything in your life I hope your right about that.

We only really have the final Season announcement video to go by, but even with just that we can get some idea of what is to come.

Throughout the whole video they seem to attempt to intertwine Clem's story throughout the three seasons and say that The Final Season will be the conclusion of this supposed arc that's been supposedly (intentional repetition) building up since Season 2.

"Season 2 was all about her try to make a go of it with new families and new communities and how that really did not go well. Over the course of "Season 3", she meets a family with which by the end it did work! And so she's... I think... rejuvenated!"
"In The New Frontier Clem got to see something she hadn't been exposed to for a long time: a functional family, a family that was still caring for each other throughout everything they had gone through in the world of The Walking Dead so far. And she set out at the end of A New Frontier with a singular goal in mind, that was to find AJ and make that again for herself."

    • Designer Stephen McManus and Creative Director Alyssa.

I think it's needless to say that that's a pretty... forced? (I'd say) interpretation of the events, but it's what the developers have made canon and it's the only interpretation that matters for the future, for better or worse.

With this in mind, this supposedly "rejuvenated" Clem who is now back to believing that there can be a happy ending and that she can make her own with the family she wants, they finish of by saying:

"Now, what she's gonna do when she finds him? That is the story of Season 4. That is the story of future Clem. Who she wants to be, who she wants to be with and how she wants to be, those are decisions the player is gonna make."
"It was hearing from the fans all the way through Season 1 and hearing that response... that's what drove our decisions. You play as her in this fourth and final Season. You will play as Clem. This will be Clem's story."

    • Creative Director Alyssa and Head of Creative Communications Job J. Stauffer (my favorite Telltale staff member, I love just how much the Head of Creative Communications interacts with us!)

It's seems that the main theme of Season 4 will be building Clem's final destination, where we want her to end up, how we want her to end up and who we want her to end up with.

Now, that's all well and good I guess, though I've heard some expressing the desire of a single linear ending, that Telltale works best with that rather than have 10 mediocre endings (and also because of the hope that she might one day get her own comic and that multiple endings would get in the way, though I find the idea of Clem getting in the comics... terrible). I personally want her to be done with and really don't mind multiple endings or linear endings as long as they are good and fitting... if Telltale is even capable of that anymore. Sorry, it's hard not to be pessimistic.

All this does leave an interesting premise... will Season 4 be just about Clem figuring herself out? Could this be a Season with no major conflict... no villains like Joan/Carver/Norma... Just Clem, revisiting her past, laying out her options, finding more options... How would a story like that even work?

Now, my immediate answer would be no... I doubt they're planning to do something like that and there will most definitely be an antagonist or a major threat yadda yadda yadda... It's just natural when writing a story... but I can't help but think how it would be extremely interesting for such thing to be done. Literally just Clem surviving and deciding herself. Oh well.

There's also something that we're sure that's happening that is AJ's fate being addressed. Now Alyssa says that Season 4's story is what Clem's gonna do after she finds him (outright confirming he is alive). Which might imply that that's pretty early on in the story? Or is this my will to get rid of AJ ASAP talking? You tell me. It's also good to point out that Alyssa doesn't say "what she's gonna do when she gets him", which hopefully is saying that we might get options with AJ other than... just taking him with us. I do wish there's an option to leave him safe somewhere, be it the McCarroll Ranch or Richmond or wherever... just not with us. Javier's last decision in ANF also seems to suggest that a choice like leaving AJ happy at the Ranch with whoever's been taking care of him will be available to Clem.

    "He's happy? Leave him be."

    • Javier

Or it could just be that looking for AJ/fighting over his... custody (lol) will take the whole Season. Sigh.

Finally, there was also some talk by Creative Director Alyssa, after being asked about Joan and Clint's closure (or rather "lack of closure"), that those character's arcs are not necessarily over. Which might imply they are appearing in the future? I certainly hope not. They did a well enough job at butchering Joan, so no thank you.

Though I'm not opposed to Clint becoming a tagalong, he was probably the one ANF character that was fine I guess, though extremely underdeveloped (but this is ANF we're talking about so who isn't underdeveloped?). But I guess that'd be another reason to have him come back. Again, not opposed to Clint coming back.

Though this is hopefully something really small and Alyssa didn't mean nothing by it and I'm just being paranoid, it could be that Joan/Clint are coming back with an attack against Richmond (for some stupid shit like vengeance? I don't know). If that is a thing, since this is Clem's story, that obligatory places Clem back in Richmond, regardless of player choice. Something I definitely do not want.

Again, hopefully it's nothing too big.

  • Yes, because having a 14 year old take care of a baby in the wilderness rather than leaving him at a ranch with people who've probably been taking care of him for months now and he's grown attached to is definitely smart.

Seriously, how is recognizing AJ is safer in a stable environment with adults who know what they are doing rather than on the move with a teen edgy.

    * Opening intro where we find Lilly. She is killed off within 5 minutes, game proceeds as normal. * Clementine meets an equally edgy teenag

  • Then why didn't Lee agree to leave Clementine with Vernon in his safehouse? I mean, some random guy taking care of a girl when there was another group with more food is definitely smart.

Oh yeah, because the entire series has been about family and the lengths that people will go to in order to protect them and be with them. Besides, we know nothing about these ranch dwellers and I really cant see anyone else caring about AJ more than Clem does.

Yes, because having a 14 year old take care of a baby in the wilderness rather than leaving him at a ranch with people who've probably been

  • Worse than A new Frontier

  • I didn't advocate to leaving Vernon with Clem so I don't know why you're throwing that on my face.

If AJ is safe and happy at the ranch, taking him away from people he probably has as his foundation by now and who most likely like him would be pretty selfish. Not to mention that taking him back to the road endangers him (and even Clem herself) greatly, so in this case, you either prioritize his safety or your desire to be with him.

Of course, the ranchers may suck, but if we find AJ safe at the ranch they have certainly been doing a good job with keeping him safe. Lingard even says he's "better now than he's ever been", whatever that means.

I bring it up because its basically the same situation as what you described: better chances with strangers vs. uncertain chances with people who love you.

Pretty much nobody took Vernon's offer seriously, because as Lee we loved Clementine and knew that nobody could love her and protect her like we could. Family > (perceived) safety

Same reason that many people denied the safety of Wellington in favor of Kenny, who loved Clem/AJ and would have done anything to keep them safe.

That is why I will do whatever it takes to get AJ back, because to me family is worth much more than perceived safety. Who knows what these people would do to AJ if they ran out of supplies and became a liability to their own survival. We will never have to worry about that if AJ is with Clem.

I didn't advocate to leaving Vernon with Clem so I don't know why you're throwing that on my face. If AJ is safe and happy at the ranch,

Yet he fails to take care of her and she runs away minutes after Vernon's proposition. And Clem running away is Lee's fault. He ignores her wish to search for her parents even though he is fully aware some stranger has been putting false tales of her parents on her head. He then goes after her and saves her from the stranger, but he gets bit and, unable to protect her anymore, leaves her with one single bullet in a city swarmed by walkers. Sure, Clem somehow makes out, but due to some miraculous physical capabilities from the little girl, certainly not due to Lee, who in the end wasn't able to protect her any longer.

Point is, yes, Clem might fight to the bitter end to protect AJ, but so did Lee and that not guarantee Clem safety in the long run.

And that's the thing. Clem is at a clear disadvantage at being able to protect AJ. What are Clem's hunting skills against a reliable source of food a ranch is bound to have? What are Clem's fighting abilities against walkers against numerous capable fighters and walls a ranch is bound to have? His chances at a stable ranch (and ranch that surely will also do anything it can to keep itself and its people from falling) are better than out on the road, it's as simple as that. It isn't "perceived" safety. It is safety.

Of course, we need actually see the ranch before even deciding anything, before choosing which chances are actually better. Perhaps there's even the option to stay at the ranch with AJ.

I’m sure it won’t be as bad as ANF, but it won’t be as good as S1 or even S2.

I’m only saying that because Telltale staff have been asking for feedback and ideas from fans, so here’s hoping to getting most of our ideas and feedback in the game (longer episodes, more hubs, better character development, etc.)

  • It should prayfully go better than New Frontier and season 2 combined I'd hope but still not quite on par with season 1. Even though I think Clem's time should come at the series finale they will still likely buckle at the majority of fans threats and complaints to keep Clem unrealistically edgy and immortal forever for a preteen or teen now.( I knew she was a preteen in season 2 but season 3 not sure if she technically was a teen or not.)

Alot riding on season 4 to tie up loose ends and give a spectacular conclusion to Clem's history. Chances are high it could be another flop because of the short time until release compared to 3 years of development with New Frontier and it still sank. If they take time to think about criticism and what it takes to make a compelling reason to move their audience then it should be a home run like season 1. So it's honestly 50/50 hit or miss until trailers and details begin to emerge. Season 4 is like two face's coin. Heads will give you a head ache because they fucked up for the third time and tails ends up with a tale to remember as a classic.

  • Clementine meets an equally edgy teenager like herself, they do edgelord things and she shaves stars into Clem's cool new hair-do!

    The cancerous cliche >.<

    * Opening intro where we find Lilly. She is killed off within 5 minutes, game proceeds as normal. * Clementine meets an equally edgy teenag

  • I'd love for either Christa or Lily to return at the end of Ep.1 and just close it off with that awkward stare of silence and end Ep.1 with a cliffhanger. Boom.

  • Rushed. but the quality I expect is: better than S3 but is slightly behind S2, and S1? I don't expect it to be close to that.

  • LOL! I like your optimism though

  • Clem would be dead now if she was left with Vernon and his people.

I bring it up because its basically the same situation as what you described: better chances with strangers vs. uncertain chances with peopl

  • forced/cringey Clem "badass"ery

    biggest fear ;_;

  • Clem will:

    • kick down trees, doors and walkers, maybe even people
    • cry about AJ
    • cry more, despite her tough as nails survivor skin
    • mention Lee/Kenny/Jane in some obnoxious cringy way
    • flashback through the time and space
    • swear
    • shoot guns twice her size
    • run around with that half-shaved sheep hair of hers
    • drive cars, maybe even tanks
    • have conversations about her womanhood
    • die
  • I laughed up until the last bullet ._. so false

  • Except everyone who worked on season 1 had left the company years ago. Let`s be realistic

  • Hmmmm.... Kill of Lilly right away in order to appeal to newcomers? That`s Telltale right there! Nice prediction :)

    * Opening intro where we find Lilly. She is killed off within 5 minutes, game proceeds as normal. * Clementine meets an equally edgy teenag

  • This is final. So I believe in this because than can go all the way.

  • I think it's needless to say that that's a pretty... forced?

I like how they call Garcias "a functional family", when all they do is scream at each other and beat each other up.

  • I'd rather the baby died so that stupid plot device never gets used again.

Yes, because having a 14 year old take care of a baby in the wilderness rather than leaving him at a ranch with people who've probably been

  • ;_______;

I laughed up until the last bullet ._. so false

  • Well, it's gong to go to the end... ba-dum, tiss

Seriously though, I don't know. ANF didn't go as I though it would (I was expecting more of a TFTBL type of gameplay with two protagonists). This is allegedly supposed to be completely Clem focused. If they focus on just tying up Clem's loose ends of story... I still don't know. This isn't a bad "I don't know," just a clueless idea of what is to come. Based on where Clem's story is at currently, it can go anywhere form here. S4 could be good , bad, the best TWDG to date, the worse to date, etc. I'm sure TTG will try to pull out all the stops. That in itself creates more uncertainty in the story's future because TTG might do things differently since there will be no 5th season to make up mistakes. If I'm correct, this is the first series with TTG that they stated season X will be the series finale.

  • I hope at the end, end they don't have a cheesy picture of Clem and Lee in the sunset or something with chaos going on in the distance lol

  • [Cpt. Obvious Mode] To the end I guess.
Maybe to the glimpse with Lee, maybe to the death of Clem?

  • I would love it if there was an option to bring AJ back to Richmond with Javi.

Pretty much nobody took Vernon's offer seriously, because as Lee we loved Clementine and knew that nobody could love her and protect her lik

  • I have a feeling that in the beginning of S4 we'll be introduced to Clem fighting off walkers only to be bitten or being bombarded by a mob of them, struggling with AJ then ultimately failing so badly she wakes up..

  • What can I say? Bitches love cannons.
