I dont even know where to start. He is the successfull character that Telltale managed to make him an asshole or a loyal friend who always watch your back. I was suspicious about him since he admitted that he was happy with the time he spend away from his family at the very beginning. After that point, I will explain him on my side and on my version of TWD Story.
He always watched my back. He showed that he sided with me in crisis. He was a true loyal friend. He never gave up on anything. He always carried on. He lost his family, after that he considered me and Clem as the only family he got left. He put himself in danger for Clem. Of course he managed to be an annoying redneck stubborn guy sometimes, but doesnt do anything since we were on the same of this crusade. I even cried a bit when he called me family, the way he said family was too deep because he felt the pain when he lost his entire family hours ago. I fought with him on train, he was delaying the inevitable. I knocked some sense into him. Even I didnt like that, I was his friend and I needed to wake him up. He never cared for Lee's murderer status. Even you didnt get along with him, he still appreciated that you opened your secret for him.
Season 2 was hard for him, he lost the woman he was together he thought he was alone again. He slowly started to show his dark side. But I never lost my trust on him since he never lost his trust on me when I played as Lee. I saw that Kenny would do anything to protect Clem, because she was a child figure for him after Duck. She was the only thing that left as a remainder of "family" concept. Thats why he did everything to save Clem. I never doubted he would hurt Clem and he didnt disappointed me. He put himself in danger again and made the deal with Edith. But I didnt accept it. Because he was about to be alone, again. He didnt deserve to be alone. Not a family guy like Kenny. I wouldnt let that happen again. I leaved with him. He was happy about it. Because he appreciated one thing, he still had a person that truly looks after him. He needed a family. Clem was the one.
Season 3 it made me so sad and furious about saw him die like that. He was the father figure of Clem, she was his child. Telltale didnt just killed Kenny, they torn apart a happy family picture. Idk if you dont like Kenny or not, you have to admit Clem was so happy with him.
I, for one, liked him. He was the favourite character of mine after Lee and Clementine.
Oh don’t get me wrong. I wasn’t telling you off for making this thread but as @IronWoodLover said, most Kenny threads turn out to be a warzone between fans and haters alike. You did nothing wrong making this. I just hope it doesn’t turn bad that’s all
Lol i bet people wouldn’t say this if it was Christa or another S1 character that returned but as it’s Kenny...
Anyway, i don’t think the cast of S2 would have had any relevance anyway because they were badly written from the get go. No development of Carlos and Sarah, nothing known of their past nor Rebecca and Alvin, nor Mike or Arvo. That’s Telltale these days for you i’m afraid.
An honest person is how I would describe him. He’s never lied about anything to anyone when it comes to a situation or his feelings about something or someone. Trust is very important, especially in a ZA
I feel like everyone deals with the apocalypse differently. Kenny feels like he's entitled to protecting those around him no matter what or … morethe cost. He's the underdog, he doesn't fold under pressure and definitely someone who isn't reluctant to speaking his mind. I'd like to summarize Kenny as Relentless and misunderstood to say the least.
The thing is @DabigRG, i felt Season 2 needed more S1 characters anyway like in the tv show, you had characters around longer so you can bond better with them. I liked Kenny’s return naturally. I wish Omid and Christa had too, i would have even liked Lilly back. Sure you say it takes away the spotlight from the S2 characters but do you really think the writers would have made them better without Kenny or any S1 character around? I don’t think they would have. Like it or not, for the majority, having a returning character from S1 was more appealing to most, not all, but most.
I disagree that it was “all about him”
Hence why I said mostly about him.
I think if it was any other character who returned a… morend not Kenny I imagine you wouldn’t have the same view that he or she hogged the spotlight.
That's a great example of my point:. Let's use Lilly, for example.
Lily, similar to Kenny, was a main character during the first half of Season 1 who had a complicated determinant relationship with Lee and acted as a contrast to Kenny. However, unlike him, she stopped being a part of the main cast due to plot developments that were intended to break the status quo and set her on the path to becoming the comic character she was named after. However, when this tie in deal fell through, she kinda fell in this weird limbo where the hook of her exit from the game's story wasn't picked up as originally intended. And though Telltale actually did plan on bringing her back, they didn't go through with the initial… [view original content]

One of the series best characters along side Lee and Clementine. But he got Possible the worst send off in all of TWDG. But that’s a long rant for another day or another thread if there ever was one about it.
Exactly, like we've seen most people throughout all the seasons keep their baggage to themselves (some irrelevant, some not) but certain things could've had major impacts on their group.
Rebecca's affair
Lee's record
Kate's true feelings
But not Kenny, this guy has lost Duck, Kat and Sarita. Could even argue Clem, AJ and Lee. That's why it's always difficult for me when I see people taking up for Jane. Some even killing/abandoning him and having the audacity to say they put him out of his misery -.- bleh

I don't think anyone can say that he is a bad character. He is very well-written, and is probably the character that has recieved mist development.
I'm gonna take an example here. Lilly, I hated her like a turd on the ground, but I would never say that she was a bad character. She was/is a great character, so good it made me hate her so much. Unlike... like, Gabe or something. Who's not a good character, he is a tool if anything to the writers, changing personality like Hugh Hefner changed his playmates.
I don't really wanna see him as a character, because I think what he does, agree or disagree with it, feels very real.
Glad you agree dude! I have had many heated arguments in the past. I don’t mind people who dislike Kenny if they are reasonable and give fair reasons, however, it’s those who spew sick, disturbing things like wishing a slow painful death on him, or literally being OTT negative about ever single thing, even when he has done a good thing like saving Christa or stopping Ben from suffering, they still have something shit to say. It’s those haters that i absolutely despise. I would say 2 forum user’s names in particular but it would cause a war but they know who they are and I truly hope they aren’t as horrible in real life about someone they don’t like.

She did? Apart from her age and that she likes books, what development dude? What other hobbies did she like? What was her fav school subject? Any friends worth mentioning? What about a short story from Sarah explaining where her and Carlos were before Carver’s as i assume they weren’t there from the beginning? We never got enough details about either of them.
Rebecca and Alvin are the same. Apart from one time Alvin mentioned they went skiing once and that Carver said he killed a man called George in cold blood, that’s literally all we know about them. What were their jobs before the ZA, what type of people are they really, how did they meet and fall in love? That would be development, Telltale failed to do this for them.
The only characters from the cabin group that had some form of development was Luke, Nick and Pete but was still limited
See, this is a question I asked in my characterization thread for exactly this reason. I too was under the impressions that character development included what we learn about the characters in general; however, most seem to describe character development as how a character changes throughout the story. At the very least, TV Tropes makes the distinction of indeed defining it as the latter but somewhat counts the former very loosely under Hidden Depths.
Sarah does have some of the former, but let's focus on the usual definition. Basically, she starts the story as being a little strange but is ultimately a sweet person. Additionally, she's also shown to be getting somewhat tired of Carlos being overprotective of her to the point that she's starting to be left out of group matters and is implied to have developed a small habit of being somewhat disobedient and rebellious when she thinks she can get away with it. These are some of the things that lead to her deciding to help Clementine and wanting to befriend her.
When left alone with Clementine the next day, she reveals some of the things she's found after sneaking under the house to her, which includes a gun(that may have been intending to have Pete/Nick teach her). Hearing about what happened to Pete is what gives her the inspiration to show the gun to Clementine in hopes that she'll teach her how to use it in case she ever needs to one day. Unfortunately, this practice session is interrupted by the unexpected arrival of Carver, which immediately put Sarah on alarm once she recognizes him. After Clementine make him leave while she finds a place to hide, Sarah regresses a bit and immediately tells the others what happened, fearing what Carver might do if he catches them. Notably, she also shows more of a willingness to be more proactive(not the word I wanna use, but it'll have to do), taking the blame for the pictures she/Clementine had taken as well as getting Carlos to let the group stay for dinner at Walter's lodge and let her hang out with Sarita while they wait with but a look, and rushing Carlos's side when Carver first attacks him.
Unfortunately, things start to go downhill for her along with the rest of the group when Carver's Search Party catches up to them, torturing Carlos in front of her and killing Walter and determinately Alvin to make Kenny come to him before taking everyone captive to return to Howe's. Throughout the next few days, she found herself becoming increasingly depressed and complacent due to Carver keeping Carlos busy and separated from her, having Carlos outright slap her for the first time for talking during his morning report, forcing her to work continuously along with the rest of the group, and finally pushing Reggie off the roof for not managing the greenhouse properly and using it to further intimidate her before having a private talk with her.
Then the breaking point comes when after hearing/seeing Carver/Troy be killed by Kenny/Jane, getting covered in walker guts to mask her presence to them, and becoming increasingly unnerved with having to travel through so many of them, Carlos gets shot by one of Tavia's men and gets eaten in front her, causing Sarah to have a breakdown and take off running into the woods. After supposedly hours of just wildly running, she and Luke take refuge in a trailer park, where she finally collapses into a fit of post traumatic flashbacks.
Thus, Sarah spends the rest of the story in a constant state of depression, unable to find much personal motivation to do anything, even doing nothing defend herself from Jane's accusations. Clementine and Jane showing up to save them does little to improve her demeanor and Clementine's attempts to talk to her can have Sarah claim that she's all alone now and she's not like Clementine. Eventually, Clementine is forced to slap her in order to snap her out of it long enough to get her out of the trailer when walkers break in. She acknowledges that she's broken on the way back and spends most of her (sadly remaining) time recuperating and trying to get her thoughts in order.
She did? Apart from her age and that she likes books, what development dude? What other hobbies did she like? What was her fav school subjec… moret? Any friends worth mentioning? Pretty sure a vast majority of people hate lily (especially Carley fans) and lily can also (determinately) let Lee almost die by Andy in ep2. If Clementine met lily she wouldn't be nearly as attached to her as she would have been to Kenny. I don't know what made u possibly think she would be more attached to Lily because she isn't, this is backed up by the fact that Clementine keeps and still has her drawing of Kenny and his family when we fast forward 16 months. With lily their wouldn't have been nearly as much emotion as kennys death/Wellington speech.

Dude right?! Like I've always had debates with people and one thing I see mostly come up is Kenny being unpredictable -.- never fails haha. Like out of all the great things he's done, an edgy, manipulative chick comes along and assumes she knows Kenny out the gate and tries to turn someone who's been there from the beginning against him! And it shocks me how many people take up for Jane or is just flat out gullible. Glad to know #TeamKenny is still alive and kicking!

Kenny is not just the one of the best characters of Season 1 but also one of the most realistic character character in which your relationship with him is depending on your choices, if you want him to be your friend or your worst enemy. He sure has some flaws but still an amazing character....until A New Frontier where his death is easily one of the worst middle fingers Telltale has given us, I mean....after everything Kenny has been through, he dies like this and accepts it? Fuck you, too, Telltale.
I never said she'd be more attached to one compared to the other.
Just that, from what we're shown, she positively interacted more with Lilly than with Kenny in Season 1. And while she know Kenny for longer, she seldom interacted with him, much less positively. Clementine would remember Lily because she got challenged by Kenny on a frequent basis, occasionally spoke with her during downtime, gave her her trademark(pretending they're remotely visible for a sec) hair ties for sleeping, lost her dad in the meat locker(something Clementine also didn't want to happen and can definitely sympathize with), and yes, shot Carley/Doug in a climaxing fit of paranoia.
So while she could feel somewhat hesitant about meeting her again, she still has more good memories of her than some of the fandum does. And it's not like she's incapable of pointing out that she didn't always like Kenny despite caring about him.

Ultimately I feel it doesn’t really matter if she “spoke more positively” or had Some good memories with lily if she doesn’t connect with lily that much. Clementine wasn’t sad if you kick Lily out and what lily did basically ruined any possible strong connection between lily and Clementine. Ultimately Clementine and Kenny were closer because of Kenny’s family, Clem connected with Kajita, Kenny, and especially duck way more than lily and her dad and that was before lily fucked up. Thiers a lot of focus on Kenny because Season 2 needed Kenny badly, the new writes were not handling the new characters well. Obviously if the new characters actually had depth then their wouldn’t be a need to put such a large focus on Kenny. Replacing Kenny with Lily without changing the overall direction and quality of S2 would have been an absolute train wreck as writers struggle to make emotional moments with poorly written characters and a S1 character that Clementine doesn’t really connect with that well.
I never said she'd be more attached to one compared to the other.

I quickly skimmed through this thread and I think it seems fine. Most of the complaints I saw were from it being an extremely common topic to discuss instead of something more specific, I think.
I am happy to see that you both are having a great discussion on Kenny. I had worries as I saw that people thought this would lead to a huge argument but you both set a perfect example on how to have a discussion. Thank you

I absolutely love Kenny and I used to despise Jane however I have toned down my hate on her and I do try to see the positives in her character. However I would much rather take the side of a guy that was my best friend throughout Season One than a character I met during Episode 3 of the Second Season.

I noticed that people think that this discussion was made entirely for me to watch a fight. No it was not. I was interested to see arguments… more. I wanted to see what drew people to like/dislike Kenny. However I understand that what someone may dislike about him may anger someone so that may cause an argument. So I was wondering if anyone could get a moderator to close this discussion? Or is there any way I can close the discussion?
Now that I think about it I do regret making it as it can become a tense topic. I have been involved in this sort of debate before. I am Team Kenny and I love to see people's opinions on what led them to like Kenny.
It's fine. You're not the one responsible for the real problems and it's entirely possible that you couldn't have known the tendencies of certain crowds.
Unlike... like, Gabe or something. Who's not a good character, he is a tool if anything to the writers, changing personality like Hugh Hefner changed his playmates.
Can you explain this? Cause honestly, he was probably the most consistent and/or fleshed out of the ANF cast and that's just on the offset.
He's probably my favorite character out of any videogame. I think people summed it up pretty good here, so I don't really have to.
I don'… moret think anyone can say that he is a bad character. He is very well-written, and is probably the character that has recieved mist development.

No worries man, #TeamKenny! people are just die hard fans is all (including me)
I have toned down my hate on her and I do try to see the positives in her character.
Same here, I figured I be open minded on her character being that everyone has different sides to their personality. Jane just had a macho thing going for her, which just completely turned me away. At first I thought it was just Telltale trying to give us a Molly feel, but it didn't work out. Still not a Jane advocate

You should see people on the youtube comments! I remember reading someone saying unspeakable shit to a gamer who didn’t pick up the gun to shoot Kenny! I was thinking what the hell is wrong with you? That gamer had a choice and decided to listen to Jane by “staying out” of the fight. Others have hated on those that shot Kenny as well so both sets of fans feel the same way about their respective characters. It’s amazing how much reaction that scene got.

However I would much rather take the side of a guy that was my best friend throughout Season One than a character I met during Episode 3 of the Second Season.
Yes! That’s exactly my reasoning too! We knew Jane for like 3 or 4 days after Howe’s right? Had like a few moments to bond with her and then i am tested to see where my loyalty lies? No competition there lol. I have always been on Kenny’s side and even when i wasn’t at times, the point is that i judge the situation on if i was actually there as Clementine in that moment in reality, what would i do? I would always trust the friend i have known from the start over someone i have known for such a short time.

Duude yes! Exactly my point. I don't like playing or looking at TWDG as just a game either, if that was the case it should've just been a TV series lol. I like to be enact with the game, kinda like you said, if I was in that position. But I get it, Telltale wants to test us and see where our loyalty lies. And it's pretty obvious with there being stats for every individual episode.
However I would much rather take the side of a guy that was my best friend throughout Season One than a character I met during Episode 3 of … morethe Second Season.

Kenny was a good man and cared about people, some people are too caring and don't know how to express it so it comes off feeling like their being aggressive. Clementine cared about Kenny at least my Clementine. Kenny would not allow someone to bully his friend.
Lol man YouTube comments are a battlefield! It's like, we've known Kenny since the beginning and to have people just turn on him instantly triggers you (including me) I guess Jane doesn't appeal to us as much as Kenny because she's like a hermit. Keeps everything to herself, by herself and in it for herself. We know this because she hung herself leaving a 13 year old with a few month old baby in a walker apocalypse allll because she was pregnant -.- ..wat

Our lord and saviour
I dont even know where to start. He is the successfull character that Telltale managed to make him an asshole or a loyal friend who always watch your back. I was suspicious about him since he admitted that he was happy with the time he spend away from his family at the very beginning. After that point, I will explain him on my side and on my version of TWD Story.
He always watched my back. He showed that he sided with me in crisis. He was a true loyal friend. He never gave up on anything. He always carried on.
Last summer? What are you referring to?
The thing is @DabigRG, i felt Season 2 needed more S1 characters anyway like in the tv show, you had characters around longer so you can bond better with them. I liked Kenny’s return naturally. I wish Omid and Christa had too, i would have even liked Lilly back. Sure you say it takes away the spotlight from the S2 characters but do you really think the writers would have made them better without Kenny or any S1 character around? I don’t think they would have. Like it or not, for the majority, having a returning character from S1 was more appealing to most, not all, but most.
Well, Sarah technically did get some development. Just not necessarily very happy kind.
Those constant and incessant arguments that keep breaking out and derailing things for a while.
But not Kenny, this guy has lost Duck, Kat and Sarita. Could even argue Clem, AJ and Lee. That's why it's always difficult for me when I see people taking up for Jane. Some even killing/abandoning him and having the audacity to say they put him out of his misery -.- bleh
He was an asshole, yet somehow useful.
He expected you to make his kills for him (Larry, Ben), yet he saved your life quite a few times.
He was dangerous, erratic and tore groups apart, yet his plans always seemed to make sense in the end.
I hated the guy, but he was good to have around.
He's probably my favorite character out of any videogame. I think people summed it up pretty good here, so I don't really have to.
It wasn’t always bad though. There were some very good discussions. The same with Jane topics, they got heated too but some were ok.
Fact is, the place was much more exciting back then than it is now. Telltale have definitely lost fans because the board definitely isn’t like it was
Yeah character development is not just about how he or she changes throughout a game, it’s about getting a sense of who they are or were before as well. Good post
I'm #TeamBen, sorry.
(It's joke pls)
Thanks!
He didn't really have much of a choice, tbf.
At least it wasn't out of character like Jane but a car accident was still the worst decision for his death. Unforgivable.
Eh. Wasn't exactly what I had in mind, but I thought it was actually a clever middleground. Too bad the Kensplainers didn't like it anyway.
Meanwhile, Jane's flashback just sucked in general.
Thank you! I just wanted to be sure that it was an acceptable discussion
Correction: I wasn't interested in seeing arguments. I never noticed my mistake once I posted it. I realised how silly I looked haha
Now that I think about it I do regret making it as it can become a tense topic. I have been involved in this sort of debate before. I am Team Kenny and I love to see people's opinions on what led them to like Kenny.
Can you explain this? Cause honestly, he was probably the most consistent and/or fleshed out of the ANF cast and that's just on the offset.
No worries man, #TeamKenny! people are just die hard fans is all (including me)
Same here, I figured I be open minded on her character being that everyone has different sides to their personality.
