Ideas for a TWDG SpinOff Game

Many iconic and/or popular series tend to spinoff. As you know, the Walking Dead Game is absurdly popular, having what was/is considered "The Greatest Child Character in VideoGame history" and has practically defined a genre in that it is what many expect when they play a Telltale Game. And apparently, it already has had a few spinoff material of itself in the form of The Road to Survival mobile app game and a pinball game, of all things.

So the point of this thread to allow us to have a place to brainstorm spinoff games and perhaps other material that we would like to have based on the game series one day. This can vary between the genre of game/media to any supplemental material that would nice to have to the roster of characters involved.

What basic RPG class(Fighter, Mage, Thief) would fit which character?

I have one. It starts out before the apocalypse with a young, disgraced Cuban baseball player. He showed so much potential and had a bright future ahead of him, but was given a lifetime ban due to his gambling. As a result of his baseball career, he was never there when his family needed him most, which irritated his much older brother. This brother, who had a wife and two kids, was a family man, but also suffered from some complications due to his past military experience, which caused some strains in his marriage. Once the apocalypse starts, the younger brother is separated from the elder and is tasked with taking care of his brother's family, leading him on a path of redemption and chance to fix the mistakes of the past.

Oh wait, I just described A New Frontier, didn't I?

  • Except his brother got the entire spotlight and overshadowed every single character, including the protagonist.

    Javi is Cuban, btw.

  • How about a spin-off about Shel? It would be great to see her again! I want to see what's going on with her.

  • Yeah, I'd like that as well. Get some backstory on her and see how she controlled things when it was just her and Becca.

  • If there was a walking dead fighting game, who would you want on the roster? And how would the competitive balance by, whether it just be general stats or more technical shit?

    A spin off with

    Christa

    Molly or

    Lilly

They were all good characters and their fates are left unknown.

Maybe a DLC where Christa, Lilly and Molly habe teamed up by circumstance. Lilly and Molly find each other after Molly parts ways with the group and then they get up with Christa sometime after she and Clementine are separated.

Well ya know given the thread description.. I suppose no one could of had possibly foreseen any comments about New Frontier a couple miles away.

  • I for one just have no interest in any spin off for a game that has been struggling with their story recently. Unless the final season will be miraculously on par with season 1.

  • Doesn't have to be Telltale right?

A Dayz with a mixture of State of Decay-Walking Dead game would be great. Have a setting near Virginia, Multiplayer is the bread and butter of the game. Just like State of Decay, it will have quests and maybe even some TV/Comic book characters but its more sidelined because again, Multiplayer/PVP is the main aspect.

  • Doesn't have to be Telltale right?

Nope. It can be anything you can think of. No matter how wild or ridiculous.

  • Story and/or continuity doesn't have to be a factor. After all, I cited Road to Survival for a reason.

  • It became a mess after Brad Kane left, in my opinion.

My bad on that, you're right.

  • It was a mess with him as well if you ask him. When you change everything up a few months before release, that's bound to happen.

  • Probably there's some kind of influence on what is scrapped and what not. From what I hear he was a good writer. I wish Mark Darin worked with him on the game. He is still at Telltale, I believe.

    • Lee + Young Clementine (All around fighter.. Clementine used as a stun move)
    • Kenny (Hard-hitter)
    • Lily/Carly (Gunslinger)
    • Larry (His attacks are a bunch of swears)
    • Omid + Christa (Double-team, kind of like Ice Climbers in Brawl)
    • Chuck (Shovel is main weapon)
    • Molly (Fast movement, Fast combatant)
    • S2 Clementine (the most "Average" Clementine. Takes the least amount of damage)
    • Danny + Andy St. John (Double-Team. Hard combos to pull off)
    • Luke (Most average of S2 characters)
    • Carver (similar to Kenny, different fighting style)
    • Jane (Fast Movement)
    • Javier (Hard-Hitter, Slow Mover)
    • David (Uses a bunch of military ranged weapons)
    • S3 Clem (Only variant who can quickly use Melee and Ranged weapons)
    • Badger (?)
    • Joan (?)
    • [Paul] Jesus (Uses a bunch of Martial arts as combat)

  • I agree that he's talented, I don't think Telltale would have hired him if he wasn't, and he did good work in the past. And yes, Mark is still with Telltale, but I think he was involved with another project at the time. Considering how he worked on the previous 2 seasons, I don't know why he wasn't on this one.

    • Lee w/ axe
    • Clem w/ hammer and prob the most alt costumes
    • Kenny w/ crowbar or salt lick
    • Lilly w/ rifle butt
    • Doug w/ multiple gadgets (the robot he misses would be a nice touch)
    • Carley w/ idk, gun fits her best but it's a fighting game (a reporter mic, maybe)
    • Larry w/ his fists?
    • Duck
    • Ben would prob be a joke fighter, but not more useless than the other characters
    • Omid doesn't need weapons
    • Christa w/ a... stick, I guess
    • Molly as a secret character
    • The Stranger would cheat in his moveset/as a CPU
    • Luke w/ machete (obv)
    • Nick w/ a bottle
    • Pete w/ a rifle butt
    • Rebecca w/ her fists
    • Alvin???
    • I don't think Carlos would be playable
    • Crap, I forgot the St. John's but Andy would go fisticuffs cuz y not?
    • I don't know how Sarah would fight (maybe how Clem taught her to use a gun) but she would be the 2nd most panicked character after Ben
    • Walter (plz) w/ the knife
    • Sarita w/ a walker, that'd be cool
    • Mike w/ a pike (like the one used on Christa--actually nvm, give it to her instead)
    • Bonnie w/ rebar
    • Carver w/ idk
    • Arvo w/ stuff
    • Jane with the nail file or her knife
    • Javi w/ bat (also obv)
    • David w/ bat cuz I think he'd try to one-up Javi
    • Kate w/ bat (yup, I've almost run out of ideas)
    • Gabe w/ bat
    • Mariana w/ large candy
    • Tripp w/ fists
    • Ava w/ fists and bat
    • Eleanor w/ a medical knife
    • Conrad w/ leverage
    • Nate would be a secret character (but I'd rather have another 400 Days character)
    • Sam with a pipe/ice pick
    • Paige w/ surprise me
    • Greg
    • Norma with a megaphone (not quite sure why)
    • Randall with something blunt
    • Rashid and Vanessa would be secret characters
    • If Edith was there, about 0.01% of players would use/unlock her willingly
    • Secret upcoming character

  • Yeah about that ... And just the Walking Dead in general appears to be over saturated already. We are suppose to be getting another game from Kirkman and over kill studios. Walking Dead is interesting but to me personally I don't think yet another introduction to more new survivors is really warranted or necessary. When pretty much all survivors of this universe go through basically the same trials and tribulations to live. After awhile most of all these branched off stories within the same universe begin to sound and look like glorified fan fictions that the masses can engage in.

    My two cents.

  • Gonna go ahead and bump this since it'll be neat to talk about: What type(s) of spinoff game(s) would you be willing to play because on these games' story and what kind of things would you like to see used in them?

  • I would love a spinoff where you play as Lilly after Season 1.

  • An alternative time line where ma urban Lee gets the right to live. I so down with that

  • Mark Darin is one of my favourites. And Shorette.

  • I believed someone mentioned this before, but a SpinOff Luke/Nick game where it shows the whole story of how they escaped from Carver and Howe's, Troy, Reggie, Bonnie, etc would be there, and that would be the perfect chance to have more time with the 400 Days crew!

  • Okay, so I did ask this particular question. I'll gather a general idea by the time I come back.
