Jane's.
Which one?
Mine too.
Eh, as someone who was not very apt to get into the series to begin with and still hasn't watched the show for a number of reasons, deaths isn't really something I'd rank a positive for.
I mean there are definitely some to complain about on the other end of the spectrum and there are a few that have a few aspects that I do somewhat appreciate for contextual reasons, but I don't know if I'd necessarily feel comfortable picking one.
What are some that have this appreciable context that complements their death?
Umm... The OP asks about the games. This has nothing to do with watching the show.
Also, the show is not connected to the games. The comics are.
Off the top of my head, the most recent one to come to mind is "Who did you try to save at the execution?". Let's start off with the negatives.
First of all, the fact that they more or less had to solidify Joan's character derailment in order to make it happen is definitely a point of contention to have with it. I mean, having repeatedly thought about it, I can sorta imagine how it would've worked in hindsight with her original characterization in tact, but in the released context, it was mainly there as an easy MEH for her to be made A Great Evil. And second, the released version of From the Gallows ultimately didn't do it any justice given Eleanor's (recurring) downplayed role & aborted arc(s) and Ava's marginalization overall.
With that said, let's get to the positives: I actually thought the choice managed to be an interesting twist on the "Your choices 'matter'" issue! Here, you have two of your allies throughout the game captured and in the iconic "Who will you save?" position where not only will one die, but the various other members of your group will no doubt take issue with your decision. And when you do make a choice, the person you chose gets killed anyway, meaning the effects of the choice are both mixed and inverted from what you'd expect since the survivor would naturally be upset that you were gonna let them die--a lose-lose situation that's actually interesting!
Honestly, if it wasn't that brilliant twist, I feel like the choice would've run the risk of being very one-sided: analogously, 'Tripp or Ava' would've been like 'Sarah or Jane' except if the choice actually mattered, Jane was more sympathetic(in both senses of the word), and Sarah had fuck all in characterization & spent an increasing amount of her screentime trying to get into Carlos's pants. Except nowhere as funny or interesting. And not gonna lie: Tripp was fuckin' done before the game even came out in my book.
Also, can I just say that I really appreciate that it wasn't just another "Walkers attack--determinate character gets eaten" scenario? Tying into what I was saying before, the walkers/lurkers/muertos/zombies are really a demotivator for me under normal circumstances and I am simply not here for them. I mean, they they have been used in a few interesting ways for drama, tension, world-building, and even heartfelt moments throughout the series, so they're ultimately a Necessary Weasel to contend with in my time with this game series. I think it's safe to say Season 2 is a considerable contributor to my issue, as walkers mostly just became fodder for quick action sequences outside of either justified plot reasons or if they wanted to do a "save X" choice, which ironically somewhat diminished their actual menace. Like, if you wanna interpret the walkers as Chaotic Vultures or something like that, sure, but I really grew to dislike how they existed to "do the dirty work and/or get rid of the evidence/complications," as it were. The Sarah Situation in particular has this as one of the more base infarctions of it.
Here, Ava and/or Tripp are instead used as hostages by the Big Bad to force the PC to essentially gamble on their lives, your teams' trust in you, and your goodwill/credibility either way, which is not only great in and of itself, but also works as a subtle display of the Shadow Archetype. And their respective fates because of this are actually different and unique amongst the rest of the game series: rather than just getting eaten or being dropped/abandoned before getting eaten, Ava gets shot in the head to the horror of her fellow citizens/friends & David amongst the crowd/stage or Tripp is shot in the neck to Eleanor's heartbreak but was shown to be still alive. This of course would've opened the way to all the results I mentioned before and some knotty character development/interaction by proxy in a more cohesively told story.
Both
"I don't have one"
I suppose that would've been a more absolute way of saying it, yes.
I mean, I dont have a favorite death, since hey, its death, but the most well done death in the series is obviously Lee, but since thats obvious, I am gonna say Kennys season 1 death, yes yes, he isnt dead, but I think he shoulda died then
Both probably
There are a lot of characters i dislike from TWD but i don’t hate any of them enough to have a “favourite” death. If i was looking at it from a death that shocked me and liked the writing of that death then i would say Carley/Doug’s or Ben’s alleyway death even though i was very sad when these characters died.
Off topic but doesn’t it go to show how damn good Season 1 was to give me those feels? Where as all the characters deaths in S2 and 3 didn’t upset me at all.
Such a macabre title. But if there was one that I remember most vividly would be Carly's first death in exchange for Doug at the drugstore. It's like I felt guilty yet didn't feel bad at the same time for her if possible.
If we're talking about non-canon deaths: In Season 2 Episode 5 if you don't crawl towards AJ Clem gets head-shotted in a pretty brutal way, always liked that one.
For canon: I think Sarah's first death is pretty touching, the way she just looks up and says "Clem..."
The Walking Dead - Death is the main premise of the comics, shows and games, I realise it's deeper than that, survival, relationships but some of the most memorable scenes always involve a characters death, whether they were hated or loved.
The 1st time I played it, I deliberated over the choice, however on subsequent playthroughs even though I like Ava as a character I usually choose to 'save' her, even though they both end up having cheap deaths I felt the interaction with Tripp was better.
My point was simply that zombies and gore aren't really my thing.
That's an peculiar way to look at that.
Fair enough.
Eh.
I guess, those were just off the top of my head
Lol
Any death that involves falling is usually hilarious
Admittedly, I did see a meme with Ben that was funny when you consider it.
The ones I was glad to see go: Danny St. John, Badger
The ones that were well written: Carly/Doug second death, Dee, Omid (it was a great scene in spite of other issues), Marianna
I've been going through the games, deliberately messing up the qte, some funny deaths I've never seen before
