Devoted fan's idea for how to shape our Clementine in s4 without using a story generator

Let us have a heart-to-heart conversation with another survivor (ideally someone around Clem's age) where we can choose our Clementine's most formative moments, the people that she looked up to the most, and her most important values.

This conversation will be wildly branching, for example if Clementine says that robbing Arvo was her most formative moment, you then have to respond with why. Was it because Clementine felt guilty at her actions, or because she learned to put her own group above strangers? If your Clementine's most formative moment was shooting Kenny, is it because she was guilt-stricken, because she felt tricked, or because she learned that sometimes people need to simply be put down? The person you are opening up to will remember your answer and either bring it up occasionally or treat your Clementine differently because of it.

I think a conversation like this would a) be very cathartic for players since they can suss out how the past 3 seasons have affected their Clementine, and b) be more relevant than a story generator because you will actually have a character in the game who knows what your Clem has been through.

  • I would... actually really like this, considering that one of my favorite moments in Season 2 is when Clem is eating with Luke in the cabin, and talking about her past, it would be a great way to get some reflection on what we have done over the years, as well as remembering what has happened

  • Yep, the Luke scene is what I had in mind when i thought of this. A calm, non-threatening atmosphere where Clem can truly open up about her feelings towards all the shit that has happened to her. Although unlike the Luke scene, the dialogue should be vastly branching and not have the same responses no matter what you pick.

  • I would love this, but there's a high chance that they could do it wrong.

    • Person asking about Clem: oh, what was Clem's opinion about (ally with a hatedom in the fanbase)?
    • Option A: negative opinion
    • Option B: other negative opinion
    • Option C: positive opinion for a reason no-one cared about/something irrelevant
    • Option D: silence instead of giving us a fourth option when we could just let the timer run out if we didn't wanna say anything
    • Person asking about Clem: and who were her main motivators?
    • Option A: Lee
    • Option B: Kenny
    • Option C: Jane
    • Option D: silence instead of her parents or someone else who had a major impact on her (not Luke)

All while they don't eat and food isn't brought up for the rest of the season despite 5 days of non-stop action (not counting sleep).

  • There doesn't have to be just 3 dialogue options like in the typical dialogue wheel. Remember in TWAU episode 1 where you have to choose who your suspect is? The timer goes very slowly and you have at least 8 options to choose from I believe. It would be like that.

  • This idea would also be a good opportunity for the whole “Your Clementine became” thing. If Telltale really branched the things Clementine could talk about, it could help factor how Clem turned out based on who she talked about, the opinions she had on them or whether she hides information about her past from this person using the silent options.

  • I never said it has to be like that, only that it's not likely we'll get anything other than 3 bad options and silence for all the important (and unimportant) dialogue prompts.
