I like Season 3

Javier and David have a lot of personality and backstory.

  • " Just felt like they all got what was coming to them looking at a pre-teen girl for leadership."

    I must've missed that part.

Mind explaining this? Like, I know the attempts to make gameplay options were kinda awkard in places, but I was never under the impression that anyone (besides hypothetically Sarah) looked to Clementine as a leader so much as an unusual able body with a unique perspective and even that vibe was pretty limited.

  • Just my personal feelings. I'm not going to type up a whole debate that I know I can't win. So I'm keen to just agree to disagree.

  • I agree that Clem was not the leader she was able to do a lot of things that the other group members couldn't but she was no leader I'd say Luke was the leader until Kenny took control of things. The one part that really stands out to me that was pretty dumb in Season 2 was in episode 2 where they have to shut off the windmill and Carlos who is a doctor says does anyone know how to do this and Clementine takes the key and turns the keyhole to turn it off I was like really Carlos really?? LOL I know it was just to add more gameplay to game but it looked weird lol  I really enjoyed the entire game though it was really good.

To be fair, that scene's intentions got lost in translation and people really harp on it a little too much for what it is:

    • Carlos is a medical doctor, not an engineer, so the situation was out of his field of expertise.
    • He and Sarita apparently didn't have a light source when they first checked it, which means they honestly may not have seen the key, much less guess that turning it would be enough to shut it down
    • Him obliging Clementine's claim that she could do it and watching her back with Nick was clearly meant to show that he had grown to trust her over the week and acknowledge the fact that she's not a normal little girl in a positive manner
    • They were in a [meaningless] hurry anyway, so there was honestly little harm in letting Clementine try after she claimed she could figure it out--an act that got results
    • What didn't make it into the episode was the fact that the Windmill was originally supposed to be a pretty complicated and accurate to real life puzzle that would take a bit of trial and error, but they didn't have time to implement this and thus the scene was rushed through

I agree that Clem was not the leader she was able to do a lot of things that the other group members couldn't but she was no leader I'd say

  • I thought season 3 was awesome

  • Well if you think that's nice, I hope the Final Season will knock your socks off ;)

Your ideas make sense but it is still weird to have Clementine turn off the windmall.

It's been a while since I've played it, but weren't their choices to either let Clementine mess around with it and see if she can turn it off, or leave one of the adults who knew just as much about operating it as her to mess around with it while she takes their place fighting off the horde with them? I think I'd rather take the able bodied grownups with me to defend the place while hoping the kid accidentally presses something that works.

  • I've said it before, but I think a good middle ground would have been to have Nick and Clem switch roles; Nick fiddles with the turbine, Clementine watches the treeline with Carlos.

Firstly, it'd provide a quick scene of Nick doing something useful. Despite people having already technically made the choice that decides his fate, it'd still give people a slight reason to reconsider their feelings on him. Sort of like how Ben starts doing little things to help in the S1 finale, and how most people seemed to start warming up to a him as a result. And secondly, you could still make a gameplay segment out of Clementine watching the trees. If done right, you could use the moment to further build tension. Make the player scan the area, add a bush rustling in the distance or something like that, make the player start feeling like something is closing in on them.

It'd fix most problems people have with that scene, without having to rethink/redo the entire situation.

  • Yeah, well, that's what can happen when you make a "badass" little girl the playable character of an interactive post-apocalyptic game. Some suspension of disbelief has to be strained at some point.

  • That would've indeed been a constructive use of the moment while still giving Clementine something to do.
Still have wonder what Sarita was doing at that point though.

That would've been a good middle-ground to help balance the concern. That way, you can choose to fix the problem that's much more out of your depth than others instead of just arbitrarily saying you can do it and everyone is just okay with it, good vibes aside.

  • Ah, I had to go rewatch the scene, not sure why I remembered it being more panicked than it was. Definitely a misstep.

All I said was I liked it lmao

Awesome. You're in the minority, most of us thought the first two seasons were far superior. But no ones saying you can't enjoy the game. Si

  • I wasn't judging people for not liking it since I too realized it had some flaws. My comment was directed at the people who were telling people who liked it that their opinion is "wrong".

  • Cool beans?
