Lee

I miss him so much. I get sad just thinking about it.

  • The dynamics created by the relationship between Lee and Clementine, and later with the other characters, led to the writing of one of the most memorable characters in the games. The end of Lee only contributed to further impact his audience.
I think it will be very difficult for Telltale to create another character with such charisma, at least in the TWD series.

  • I feel bad for Lee that his role was eventually relegated to just being a caretaker and building block for Clementine when he was a lot more than that and we never got to explore more of Lee's own story.

  • Yeah, that kinda bothers me too. At least he managed to be a character in his own right and for better or worse, had more focus on him compared to most of his successors.

Lee wasn't relegated to being a caretaker, Clementine was actually created berfore Lee.

I'm glad they left most of Lee's past open to the player I don't consider it bad writing at all. Season 1 was a redemption story for Lee. Clem was the perfect character to help him receive redemption. Season 1 Clem saw the best in people and didn't judge Lee because of his past. Lee found redemption by taking care of and training Clementine. It was nice to have a lead child character who wasn't a complete moron. I think they did a great job with Lee's arc and season 2 continued the story perfectly. Clementine was Lee's legacy playing as her was the perfect solution. It allowed the player to almost pefectly sync their version of Lee's teachings to their version of Clementine. I found Clementine's transition from innocent child to hardened survivor equally as compelling as Lee's redemption arc. It was a very tragic story to see Clem go from seeing the best in everyone to becoming very mistrustfull of new people. Shifting the main focus to the child character growing up in the apocalypse was an interesting contrast to the main walking dead story seen in the comics and show.

  • How he got bit was dumb and careless. They should have thought it out better. I would have been more careful if I were him

  • The problem with that is that nearly all of Clementine's character development and Lee's "vision" is thrown out the window in ANF and Clementine becomes a sporadic cameo character in the recent installment regressing in more ways than progressing. I really don't like the idea of Clementine having to have been Lee's redemption or legacy because i feel Lee could have been his own legacy and grew more as an individual character with his own story than just being there to build Clementine's character.

That's true but that is a problem with ANF not the first two seasons.

How would you have handled Lee's redemption arc without Clem in the picture? It's not that I don't think it's not possible but how would you make an equally or more compelling story by removing Clementine from the plot?

  • He doesn't need to have a redemption arc, he could just have his own story focused with Carley, Lily, Kenny, etc. I really don't think Lee needed a "redemption" arc at all. Perhaps developing his own romance with Carley or Lily if things were to have went differently.
