I know ANF gets a lot of hate (especially in this forum), but, personally, I find it much more enjoyable (despite its issues), especially when considering Clem’s character.
After I played S1 what I wanted from her character was to see how the events of that season, how her time with Lee and the group, affected her. S2, however, didn’t give us that, this came in ANF.
Besides that, her character was completely out of place in S2. The fact that, for gameplay reasons, Clem (a child) was constantly taking the lead, making key decisions, receiving big responsibilities,… during that season constantly took me out of the game. In ANF, however, even if she was a side character for most of it, her placement seemed more natural and believable.
If I could, I would actually forget that S2 existed. Unfortunately, ANF respected it (even if it questionable retconning can take some flak) when creating her character and, because of it, it became kind of important to understand her and her motivations.

@Alyssa_TTG There was an AMA a while back you confirmed that we will see the Garcías back in The a Final Season, and Joan/Clint possible returning too, is this still happening or is it going to be scrapped as we want our decisions we made in A New Frontier impact The Final Season, I hope you get back
That wasn’t the sole point of my post, but I believe that I clearly pointed out to two main factors related to her character.
The first point was that, as she was turned into a playable protagonist in S2, we could not really see how S1 shaped her character and how she would react to different events, which was also something I was hoping for after S1. Since we were directing her during that game, she was less of a complete character with her own characteristics that were shaped by S1 and more like our reactions, just like Lee. During ANF, on the other hand, we can see what Clem has become, how she interact and react to things, which choices she makes in certain situations. In ANF, she is her own character, and not ours.
The second point I made about this was related to how she fit into the story itself. During S2, for gameplay reasons, Clem (a little kid) was constantly out of place, “taking the lead, making key decisions, receiving big responsibilities,...”. She was, most of the time, treated by the game as if she was Lee or Kenny, and not a kid, and this constantly took me out of the game. Again, on the other hand, during ANF “her placement seemed more natural and believable”. Not only she was older, but she has also built a reputation with most of those people that justifies why they would expect her to act and take responsibilities like any other adult around. Her position was more fitting of her.
So, without getting into more details, that’s why I said that “especially when considering Clem’s character” (its development, placement and characterization) I think ANF is “more enjoyable (despite its issues)”. And I hope that I made it easier to get the connection now.
No,it's the right decision nobody wants this series to end with A New Frontier.
I mean i'd be surprised if this game ends up being worse than
A New Frontier.
I don't think they were lying this time it really looks like they're improving,
but i'm still gonna be cautious about this.
I saw the brief glimpse of gameplay they released. I wasn’t impressed im sorry. I know it was only a snippet but i have never been a fan of the new engine, i am also betting my life that most of the game will involve cutscenes instead of gameplay, lack of hubs and short episodes among all the other things lacking which Season 1 had.
We’ll see. I won’t be buying it though. I would happily do so if i am proved wrong though but there’s more chance of Hitler still being alive than that lol

Well it could serve one purpose and that will be to make season four appear Emmy worthy in comparison.. If season four is better than season two which shouldn't be that tough for them after taking in fan feedback and making amends hopefully.. and the fact that S2 got heavy criticism too.
They can't completely ignore ANF. It has to tie in somehow. Maybe Clem goes back to Richmond after getting AJ. Maybe that's where they live at the start of TFS but then like always, shit falls apart and they have to bail. Maybe the whisperers wipe out Richmond and that's why Clem and AJ end up living with those other kids.

Season 2 loose ends? Such as?? I personally felt that was a perfect way to end Clem’s arc. We get given several endings, the choice we want whether that is Clem and AJ wit Jane or Kenny or going alone. Either way, Clem remains an unknown status and i just felt like they could have left things at that. Season 3 just completely ruined her character for me, i dont even care about the girl i grew attached to from Season 1 anymore and that is all Telltale’s fault with bad writing and other creative decisions. This is why i am bracing myself for S4 to be just as bad. It can’t be worse than Season 3 though...can it?

Exactly, now you might be fine with this. Others like myself have had it up to here with all these unknown conclusions within The Walking Dead cast. More linear closure is needed I believe whole heartedly.

Didn’t Batman s2 have more hubs, gameplay and longer episodes (at least the first episode did, I only played the first episode so far)? If it did, then hopefully it is a sign that TT will have more of those things in future games, including season 4.

Yes Batman S2 had more hubs, longer episodes (Episode 4 was short but it's because there's 2 different beginning) and episode 5 is an entire different episode depending on the final choice you make in episode 4.
And your choices matters a lot more too so hopefully they do the same in The Final Season.

Also by having another unknown status at least then you can’t be pissed off if Telltale kill off such and such a character especially if it is done in an awful way

I don't remember exactly about that but the hubs were okay, you should play it if you have the money it's pretty good there's a reason why people like it so much.
But you told me before you didn't like the new "Telltale format" so i don't know if you would enjoy it.
No completely ignoring it, acting as if it never happened, that will make a lot of fans angry, they'll feel as though they bought that game for nothing in regards to clementine. They have to tie into it some way. It doesn't have to be anything huge, don't even really have to have Javi and the Garcias at all, but it at least has to be referenced. It needs to matter in the narrative somehow. Like, without Javi Clem would have never found AJ, or without Richmond AJ would have died, sick while always hiding from walkers, never able to rest. Something, otherwise ANF will truly have been nothing but a side story like Michonne that just happened to have Clementine as a side character.

...I'm honestly failing to make the connection on this statement.

Honestly I would be happy if theirs no connection to ANF. If they bring up anything from that game it will just bring back bad memories.
I just wish they’d cancel Season 4’s development. I can only see the game heading south
That's the spirit.

You’re right. I wanted the series to end after Season 2!!
Fixed it for ya.

If i knew how bad Season 3 would be then of course i would have wanted it cancelled before it was made! Lol
With all those loose ends?

It has ANF!Clem as the playable character, so that'll earn it an automatic reprieve and horde of defenders.

Well i feel that closure can be found when they are left unknown. At least that way it is left to your imagination. That’s how i look at it.
I bet the gameplay area wasn’t that large though right? Comparing it to say the mansion in TWD s1 for example?
Also by having another unknown status at least then you can’t be pissed off if Telltale kill off such and such a character especially if it is done in an awful way
Are you experiencing any identity crisis, lad?
ANF are past waters. If Telltale is clever, he will ignore the ugly duckling in the series.
I don't remember exactly about that but the hubs were okay, you should play it if you have the money it's pretty good there's a reason why people like it so much.

It is just like The Wolf Among Us or Tales, there are some hubs but not that much compared to TWD s1.

Yeah thats my point entirely! Telltale are a shadow of their former selves. It really is a shame when we know they are capable of so much more
