We don't know the details of the meeting with the raiders but it's reasonable to believe that Marlon, Brody, and the twins ran into a larger group of armed people and rather than fight and risk all 4 of them being captured or killed, the raiders, concerned some of their own people would die in the process or needing the kids alive, offered a deal, let them take the twins and Marlon and Brody could walk away unharmed. Sometimes you're in a no win situation and all you can do is minimize your losses. If that's what happened, which seems reasonable to believe that that is what happened, then Marlon took the deal so at least some of them would make it back to the school. He wasn't wrong to accept the deal. Where he went wrong was hiding it from everyone else and making no attempt to find or rescue the twins.
Then he kills Brody. We know he didn't mean to kill her. He was afraid of the truth getting out and he lashed out and hit her, but he didn't mean to kill her. He didn't mean to kill her, but he did. That's involuntary manslaughter in today's legal terms, and yes, it needs to be punished, but involuntary manslaughter is never punished by death because it's understood that it wasn't intentional. Because the bullets weren't firing. She expected them to never fire... How is that not clear? She was making a point then oops. One of them actually did fire... Was it smart on her part? No. Did she intend to kill him? Also no. That much is clear when it actually fires. The look of shock and surprise and horror on her face proves she had no intention of actually killing him.
Because she didn't intend to actually shoot him... The bullets had shown themselves not to work and she was "shooting" at him to make a point. She didn't think they were actually going to fire. It's clear she was shocked and horrified when one of them actually does fire and she kills him.
If you think Marlon deserved to suffer then you are a bad person, obviously Marlon isn't bad, he tries to save everyone, and he probably saved a lot of people by giving up the twin sisters. He probably evaded a massacre and also in real life wtf would you do if armed people came and threathened you and your people ? You'd be all badass ? No you'd be scared shitless just like everyone else. Marlon made mistakes, he was not a monster and clearly felt guilty about everything, he is not a monster and if you think Marlon deserved to die or suffer, then you are just the type of person who likes to distance themselves from humans who did bad thing and think "I would never do that" Marlon is a human being, he was scared, and is still a kid, albeit older than AJ but still a kid.

The thing is empathy is a human emotion, and it's proved that baby are born with it, It's true that he was raised in an apocalyptic world which would make him paranoid, which validate why he is jumpy when someone sneaks up on him, like it's ok. But there is a difference when you actually see a person surrender cry and beg to be let go. Aj saw the all situation Marlon wasn't a threat anymore yet he decided to kill him. There is clearly something wrong with AJ because a normal human being would have trouble killing another one, it's natural, even if this is the apocalypse.
Also Marlon while he did some mistakes, probably avoided a massacre by giving up the twin sisters, the real mistake was killing Brody or whatever her name by accident, still he is more useful alive than dead and could have gained his redemption, what's the use of two people being dead instead of one ? Marlon was a bad person. I also believe not everyone is worth saving. Nor does everyone deserve a second chance. Whether you believe marlon didn't deserve to suffer or be killed he definitely deserved punishment for what he did. And imo that punishment is either execution or suffering.

It's funny that you choose not to understand and instead judge, I guess you're the type of person who doesn't understand why lawyers defend "monsters" anyway it's just a game so do what you want. AJ shows signs of being psychopathic, Marlon just seems like a normal human being to me, he fucked up badly killing Brody, and deserves to pay for it, but not by dying, what's the point ? Just make him work his ass off or something. obviously you need to know how the real world work, if you were a lawyer you would understand why Marlon deserves a chance, if you studied criminology psychology and law you would understand why Marlon deserves another chance.
And if you knew about survival you would know why Marlon deserves another chance.
I wouldn't give people up. I wouldn't go into a fit of rage and kill someone. I who blame me killing someone or someone else. I know this for a fact because I know myself. I'm not capable of doing what marlon did. Marlon made a conscious choice to give up the twins and he said he'd do it again. Marlon admits he's a coward. Someone like marlon is not capable of leading nor does he deserve to lead. And you may think marlon working his ass off is enough of an atonement but I don't.
We don't know the details of the meeting with the raiders but it's reasonable to believe that Marlon, Brody, and the twins ran into a larger group of armed people and rather than fight and risk all 4 of them being captured or killed, the raiders, concerned some of their own people would die in the process or needing the kids alive, offered a deal, let them take the twins and Marlon and Brody could walk away unharmed. Sometimes you're in a no win situation and all you can do is minimize your losses. If that's what happened, which seems reasonable to believe that that is what happened, then Marlon took the deal so at least some of them would make it back to the school. He wasn't wrong to accept the deal. Where he went wrong was hiding it from everyone else and making no attempt to find or rescue the twins.
Then he kills Brody. We know he didn't mean to kill her. He was afraid of the truth getting out and he lashed out and hit her, but he didn't mean to kill her. He didn't mean to kill her, but he did. That's involuntary manslaughter in today's legal terms, and yes, it needs to be punished, but involuntary manslaughter is never punished by death because it's understood that it wasn't intentional. Involuntary manslaughter generally results in a 1 to 2 year prison sentence.
Then he blames it on Clem. Yeah, dirtbag thing to do, but again, scared kid doing what scared kids do, lying.
The fact is, nothing Marlon did was done with malicious intentions. He didn't give away the twins for the lols. He didn't kill Brody because he wanted to watch her die. He didn't blame it on Clem because he was evil, like Joan. No, he was a scared kid that was put into a horrible situation and didn't know how to handle it and it all spiraled out of control.
Marlon didn't really deserve to die. He could have been redeemed in time. He had surrendered, was begging to leave, and AJ picked up the gun that Marlon no longer had, and murdered him. What's worse, the bullet almost hit Clem. Their heads were only inches apart. If the bullet had ricocheted inside Marlon's skull and veered left (camera right) it would have killed Clem, too.
If you think you know yourself, then you know nothing of yourself, you are an extremely complex living thing and there are so many things happening in you that you are not aware of, in your brain too, it's like thinking you have free will but it's just a lot of things happening in your brain in which you are not aware of. You don't choose who to be, genetics and your environnement does, and to live and keep the most people alive, you need to have knowledge on the world around you, and not blindly judge without thinking, your way of thinking is medieval, and how many people were alive back in those days ? Not a lot, how long did they live ? Not a lot. Now that we humans think and ponder before acting we are better at keeping people alive. Your point of view is too old it needs to change.
Examine and try to understand why people do what they do, and try to make the most all the time, death is so definitive..
