Praise from old fan

I had given up after playing New Frontier, which ruined the franchise for me. I've abandoned the forums, avoided anything related to TWD to the point I genuinely fogot about it. I didn't even know S4 was coming this month. So, without spoilers, I blindly wondered in, just for Clem, really, to see how she handles herself - for the respect towards her voice actress more than anything tbh - hoping to see... well, disappointment.

Boy, I was so wrong.

You have me back on your train, TT. Please do not crash.

  • It's such a shame. Telltale lost a lot of fans after ANF. I understand why they went in a different direction, but at the end of the day, us fans (as a majority), love Clementine and what she stands for. Some of us have been with this franchise since 2012. We've literally grown with Clementine. She serves as a reminder that all hope is not lost. I feel as if Clem is an extension of myself, and that's a huge deal for a game developer.

I believe and hope that Telltale will do right by us die-hard fans, since this is the final season. I'm vibin with this season so far, and I honestly can't wait to see where it goes.

    All love man <3

  • Same here. Gave up on the franchise and couldn't have given less of a shit about TFS. I only bought it out of a sense of obligation and completionism more than anything, but I really love what Telltale is doing with the game so far.

  • Welcome back man, been a long time since I've seen you here. It feels good to see some of the old faces here again, we've had a couple of others start coming back as a result of TFS.

As if it wasn't already known, it really shows just how much damage ANF did not only for Telltale, but among the fans. And it's not just relegating Clem to a side character, it's the numerous lies from Telltale higher ups (Bruner), the constant and obvious rewrites that plagued the story, creating plot holes and inconsistencies, deciding to put more attention on action, not the characters, and so much more. It did drive a lot of people, even stalwart fans, away because of the poor quality. With this new season, it's great to see a return to form, and I hope that we will continue to see fans come back to the series as this season continues and after it ends.

  • i'll never understand all the hate for ANF. sure it has its faults but it wasn't like a bad game or anything.

  • I never rly got it either. Not great but not bad.

  • TFS does seem to be renewing interest in the series for older fans after the ANF debacle, personally I know of a few friends who've jumped back on after completely skipping or trying and disliking the first two episodes. The forums themselves seem to be a lot more positive, and after playing ANF on release, and then finally getting around to finishing the last 3 episodes a few months ago, it feels great to be excited for a new episode to come out, been 4 years since I last had that feel lol.

  • Yeah, no wonder actually. I thought 3 years to develop the story after season 2 will allow them to make great episodes, but unfortunately no and many fans felt betrayed.

  • Considering ANF is a continuation of previous seasons, it's a massive let down compared to previous ones. They really should make it a spin-off TWD title instead of the main one.

  • i agree. would've been much better without clem as a 400 days type story between s2 and s3. but it was still a good game.

  • Compared to the previous seasons, IMO it is a bad game. And it was pretty much a slap in the face to anyone who played the seasons before it. From the hour short episodes, to the being able to "play" as Clem only in 5 minute flashbacks, and the S2 endings being resolved in said 5 minute flashbacks, the entire season was a complete mess.

Not to mention I couldn't connect or bring myself to care about the new characters, and all of them bar Javi were unbearable.

  • Hey, I'm really glad to see you.

I just deleted A New Frontier from my memory and moved on. It's quite relieving that new season don't rely that much on ANF - at least for now. By far game doesn't force you to relive the past, especially to bring back ANF story like it was some cornerstone for Clementine (which obviously wasn't). I like that we have a choice - you want to talk about the past, you do it; you don't want to share stuff with people you just met, you don't. I really hope it keeps that pace and tries to mantain the realism and logic lost during the making of the story for newcomers.

The only thing I'm concerned about is timeskip, but I'll let it pass, as this is nothing compared to what we've got before.

  • Yeah i think a lot of us are surprised. Its still nowhere near as good as Season 1 for me but its light years ahead of Season 3

  • Well that's what you get when you decide to rewrite the entire season months before release...

  • I'm glad people are positive about the franchise again after all the negativity that ANF brought.

  • Welcome back fallandir!
I'm happy to see again people i remember from before:)

  • Hi Kenny, nice to see you. I hope I'll stay for a little bit to discuss stuff again.
