Season 2, with Omid death and Christa disappearance.
S4 easily
I think S4
Obviously everyone is gonna say s4 but I think it was by far season 2. Clementine walking alone on the shore and in the forest after just losing everything was such a great moment.
A New Day for me, maybe because of nostalgia but the introduction of my favorite characters ever Lee and Clementine and the idea how the world slowly begun dying.. Keep in my mind they call them “walkers” because “Zombie” isn’t even a word in their universe, they never heard or know about those creatures or had the idea of them (fictional or not) in their life, so it’s the first time seeing something like that in their world and that’s what made it terrifying for the characters and me.
S1 or S4.
S2's first episode was a bit of a mess and S3's first episode (s) was/were complete manure.
Done Running, easily.
A New Day was also good but not as enjoyable for me as Done Running.
All That Remains was okay. It had its moments, but felt ultimately underwhelming.
Ties That Bind was just bad.
Definitely S2 for me. S4 and 1 aren't far behind, but S2 really didn't pull it's punches. Good pacing, memorable moments, it's in my top episodes period.
Season 4
Not Michonne (whose opener ended pretty strongly) nor New Frontier (which had a strong start and then plopped consecutively). It's really hard to choose, though.
Season 4. Season 1, covered a lot of ground but it felt like your average opener. I don't really like All That Remains due to the treatment of Omid and Christa. Ties That Bind.... worst of the worst
S4 definitely,
Would've been S2 if they kept stuff like this in instead of deleting them:
Clementine being shot by Winston
(Sets the dark survival atmosphere and Clem's life being in danger for this season)
Clem falls down the landslide (Shows that the world is being cruel to her because it doesn't matter is she's "big, storng, little , smart, boy, girl, because she' s alive)
They didn't necesserily delete those scenes. They mostly replaced them with different ones. Her getting shot was obviously replaced by her getting bit by a dog, which - I think - is much darker and more interesting.
Done Running. All That Remains started off brilliantly (not overly fussed about Omid/Christa), but began to drag after the cabin group were introduced. Not to mention that the only two of them I actually liked were Luke and Pete. At least the TFS lot are more likeable and we know them better.
Season 2.
I don't really know. I think it's either Season 4 or Season 2. Of course, I think this would be a better question for when Season 4 is finished, because I think All That Remains is a better episode on its own + with A House Divided, but as the rest of the season happens it is diminished.
A New Day, that episode was really fantastic, it was cool to see the beginning days. The atmosphere in that episode blew me away and got me hooked on the series.
"Done Running" was good or great all around.
"A New Day" mostly for nostalgia, it's honestly not that great of an episode, though still better than most of the later Seasons.
"All That Remains" was great at the time because I was really into TWD back then and just played S1 days before for the first time, but I don't think it has aged well if looked at in the context of the complete Season (which was a mess honestly). Too many unresolved plot points etc. are set up that are completely ignored later, leading to a weird disconnect when you play the full game in a short span of time. Still, better than most of S2.
"Ties That Bind", aka Episode 1 of 4 of ANF, is awful, just like the rest of the game. The writing is bad, the characters suck, Clementine is unrecognisable, the S2 flashbacks were a fucking disgrace and choices barely mattered. On top of it all, we payed for five episodes and got four if we stop using bullshit marketing tactics and excuses. That insult alone is enough to make me hate this episode for the rest of time, but it also sucked regardless, so whatever. Fuck this game.
In terms of what goes on in the first few minutes to establish the tone, that goes to Season 2 with All That Remains. Immediately opening up Clem having a gun pointed at her and a huge character death established the darker and harsher reality that they're living in, while also establishing the dangers and situations Clem will be put in throughout the game.
In terms of episodes as a whole, that easily goes to TFS with Done Running. It's honestly one of the best episodes of the entire series, which was needed after the disaster of ANF. Strong character development, the set up for an interesting story, a great premise of seeing kids surviving the apocalypse, new gameplay for a Telltale game, the best looking season yet, balanced and good pacing, and an actual 2 and 1/2 hour long episode seals the deal.
Season 2 had such a strong opening. I dunno why people say Season 4, I never found it that strong, it looked average IMO, all I'm saying is that it's just better than ANF and that's it.
Yeah, I'm in the same boat.
Plus, the OP didn't count it, so....
Season 4 easily, followed by Season 1. All That Remains was disappointing. Ties That Bind was...urban?
Probably because it delivered everything the fans have been asking for?
It did?
It didn't?
I think the overwhelming praise in these forums is proof enough of that?
Can be kinda difficult to take that serious considering what I've actually seen.
But if it is, then I guess it is. Not detailing or objective focus necessary.
While it's better than ANF, I don't find it that great. It's just as average as an episode of Guardians of the Galaxy.
Season 2 or Season 4 I guess. Season 1 opening was a bit too slow paced for my liking and Season 3 opening was just pretty weak overall.
S2 = S4 > S1 > S3
Ouch...
Didn't play GOTG past the first episode. Done Running is everything we could ask for.
Season 1 because nobody knew what was going on and it was nice to see characters being out of the boat suddenly so to say, it also had the strongest characters.
Don’t know y people are calling Done Running average. Telltale literally delivered exactly what the fans asked for, less action, more character development, and a thick atmosphere that presents a solid mood/tone. If we’re not counting S4 sense the season isn’t finished yet then my favorite pilot episode is definitely All That Remains.
Season 2 and season 4, without a doubt.
Season 4 for sure. Season two, while having great moments, made a lot of characters unlikable for some reason and we really didn’t have much time with them compared to s4 and s1. My gosh the characters in season two are so underdeveloped.
The Final Season for sure.
To me, season 1. You can't beat the guilt from the Carley/Doug choice.
Here's how I rank the opening episodes
S1>TFS>S2>Michonne> > > > > > > >ANF
Oh, you are not saying what I think you're saying.
Done Running - Pretty much the equivalent of season 1's opening but done much better and more interesting. The opener showcases the new mechanics and AJ and Clem's relationship perfectly, and the rest of the episode gets you accustomed to the new cast beautifully. I cared about every kid I came across and by the end when that twist happens its more shocking since you don't see it coming rather than "Pick one/the other will die". I like that they didn't rely on a massive choice just yet.
All That Remains - Loooove the utter loneliness in the first act, and just generally a large chunk of the episode. She's technically all by herself fending and depending on herself, and goes to show how stark and cruel the world and people can be. The cliffhanger is a bit anti climatic but it leads up to one of the best episodes in the whole series and I couldn't see it ending without that last bit.
A New Day - Solid. 100% solid episode. Nothing inherently wrong, but nothing jaw dropping or super exciting. Does a great job setting the cast, and the telltale's new timed dialog tree and choice mechanics. 8/10, B, A smiley face on a paper.
Ties That Bind - The super underrated one. Yes the Clem flashbacks are a bit half assed and way too short, but the overall storyline through both episodes is quite strong in my opinion. The opening sequence of the episode does a great job showcasing Javi and David's relationship, which becomes an important for the long run of the entire season. The junkyard showcases the new families dynamic, and just how tired everyone is getting, Kate's fear of running out of food, Gabe's need to have time to himself, and Mari worrying of forgetting about her father and her past life before the mayhem started. Its a great first 30 mins of the episode and I wish it lasted just a tiny bit longer. The rest of the episode moves at a rapid pace, but not as jarring as the next part to where it can be too brisk. I got some issues but its more to do with the lack of breathing room, and some choices being presented too heavy handily (Conrad, going with clem/family). I don't want to ramble forever but as a single premiere its solid.
In Too deep - Its eh. Not awful but really draaags, and doesn't go anywhere till the last 3rd which is quite good. I get that the point is to feel aimless how Michonne feels being in this crew for only a few weeks and just having no purpose, but its just done so slooooooow and uninteresting, and that's not great considering its just barely a 90 min episode.
THIS.
Glad to see someone else truly appreciated that.
It was her mother.
It wish it had much more gameplay.
Ain't that right, Gabe?
