TL;DR, Telltale is actively looking to find a way to hand over production of eps 3 and 4 to a new company, and hopes to announce who the new company is by the end of the week.

  • I wonder, would the art style look completely different? It wouldn't be the same devs doing it, right?

Handing over production would mean handing over models and art works etc as well as other things including giving them access to their engine.

I think if a deal is completed, the biggest issue would be ensuring that all the voice actors from the series are "retained".

  • I think the voice actors might do it even if it's difficult for them...at least the main/loyal ones like Melissa and Nikki [Clem and Lilly]. They seem to really love their characters.

  • God, I'm really nervous they won't find a partner after all that's happened. I'm not getting my hopes up just in case.

  • If another developer is taking over for the rest of the season, it can only be Skybound games r-right? I mean c'mon Kirkman get your finger out of your ass and do something about your IP for once.

  • I have three major ideas.
    1. Valve itself. They must be taking some heat on steam for refunds.
    2. Campo Santo. The original TWD S1 crew founded that company. It would make sense they'd step in to finish it.
    3. Skybound games, of course.

  • I mean would Campo Santo really be alright funding TFS after all the bullshit Telltale has pulled...?

  • This doesn't sound like just some big company funding telltale. This seems like a straight up "pass the TWD ball to someone else". In that case, yes. I can see Campo Santo.

  • Nah AMC is doing a bangup job and I am sure he trusts some Chinese company to finish the Adventure game off just fine...

  • I mean Valve is a great company. But I wouldn't trust another company that hasn't had anything to do with The Walking Dead. (But I guess Campo Santo does work for them now).

Campo Santo is a good choice but I don't really see Sean Vanaman agreeing with it. Plus they're already working on their video game.

  • If I can be blunt for a minute, he should just suck it up. This is the character he created, and he must have some feelings towards her. At least enough to finish 2 episodes. But after seeing the way he handled the pewdiepie situation, he doesn't strike me as the person that forgives easily.

  • Not even that. The Pewdiepie situation was very...controversial. and I know a lot of people who refuse to buy from Campo Santo because of it. Campo Santo could do with some good publicity for a change. Just sayin'.

  • My main confusion is about the voice actors who were laid off. Will they be picked up by the new Devs along with the art designers? If so I assume it's someone huge. Hopefully they will buy out TT as a whole. If someone were to pick up episodes 3-4, They'd have to be on the phone with Melissa Hutchison (Clem) and Gideon Adlon (Violet). Honestly their voices bring the characters to life. It wouldn't be the same without them. Violet's voice is impossible to replicate. It's so unique. A slight amount of rasp and angst. Soft yet powerful. And Clementine is Clementine. Their is no other way imo.

I'm not sure how it'll be done. But i'm just happy someone, somewhere is trying. Thank you anonymous Dev :)

  • The voice actors are a different entity from the employees, I'm pretty sure they weren't laid off.

  • Yeah I took Pewdiepie's side on the whole thing, but refusing to buy their video games is a bit far.

  • They'll find a partner. Third parties have already expressed interest in completing the season and people are rallying in mass numbers for the completion of this game. It definitely won't end up like Half Life 3.... right?

  • I have no idea what you guys are talking about. Would you mind telling me who Campo Santo is and what beef they have with Pewdiepie or why that'd affect anything.

  • Campo made Firewatch, and Pewdiepie said the N word and a bunch of other shit on his streams, so they told him he wasn't allowed to post videos of their game.

Half-Life 3 is a different situation. Valve has never deteriorated business-wise and has always been steadily successful. They're just not that interested in making more sequels to any of their games.

  • Sean Vanaman works for Campo Santo. He was the lead writer on season 1. He created Clementine.

  • If another company does complete the final season, My next question/concern is how long will this take to complete the last two episodes. I hope we're not looking at years on end of waiting for just 2 episodes to release.

  • Years? Nah. Months? Probably.

  • At least they're acknowledging some sort of progress. We will know mostly everything by the end of the week.

  • I would seriously wait years as long as it's finished. And of course it's a developer we can all trust.

  • In fairness, A lot of people I have been talking too blame the demise of TT on PewDiePie as well. They say millions of people just watch him play Walking Dead rather than buy it. As with many of the games him, Jackseptic Eye and Markiplier play. TT woulda been wise to copyright strike his and all youtube players videos as well. It really does hurt a game when you got someone with his power spoiling everything to his core audience. Especially when it's a game so dependent on story.

Doubtful. The season was only 3 months from completion. The scripts are done. Episode 3 was already well underway. I think all they needed for episode 3 was the animators and such to finish putting the pieces together to make it all work. Episode 4 is mostly untouched, except for the aforementioned script being finished. From what I've seen the VO work for ep 4 hadn't even been done yet. Whoever picks it up just needs to devote a decently sized team to finishing it, potentially bringing in the TellTale team, even if on a temporary basis to help familiarize the new devs on the TellTale tool, and they could have it all done, spit and polish included, in 4 to 6 months.

  • TWD Final Season except Clementine says "hella" and "wowsers".

They're busy with season 2 of LiS. Plus they're not exactly the best writers in the business.

  • Plus Nicki Rapp, of course. There's been too much excitement having the character AND the voice actress back for them to ditch her now.

I kinda hope its a more AAA studio for a few reasons. For one it means they could probably adjust and finish the game quicker. Next they have budget, and last because they might buy Wolf S2 while they are at it.

I just hope if its announced it isnt some nobody company that just makes us go "who?"
