Telltale Publishing: RGX Showdown | Stranded Deep rights reacquired by the devs!

edited January 2020 in General Chat

Telltale's Publishing branch is still active as the launch trailer for a new racing game RGX Showdown dropped today. Looks like a low-tech Wipeout.
Only on consoles, PS4 and Xbox One.

It’s you against the world as you race through traffic in teeth-gritting, edge-of-your-seat street races. Be a part of hourly online tournaments where you go one-on-one with opponents from all over the globe. Climb the ranks, unlock cars and customizations, and claim your championship title.

It's a surprisingly cheap game. 13.49$ CAD, so that's 10$ U.S. -- It's just multiplayer/online only however.

  • Gameplay

    hmmmmm

  • Is it on ps4?, I thought it was Xbox one only?

  • Meh online only...but it at least looks fun. Sorta a Wipeout/Pod Race vibe going there.

  • It's both.
    Multiplatform.

I was reading an article about this game on Push Square and what's interesting is this

"a game from a small studio comprising of racing game veterans responsible for Burnout and Split/Second. Sounds good, right?"

So yeah this game looks fun,if you're into these games it kinda sucks that it's multiplayer/online only, but it's also 10$ so that's cool.

  • Wow this looks pretty good I’ll just have to add this to my huge fucking list of games to buy next month

    Thanks telltale ?

  • We're gonna need a bigger boat.

  • Nice. I've had that game on my list for a while, but, well, potato computer stopped me.

    Mayyyybe I'll get this. Sometime.
There's too much coming out these days.

  • And soon we're going to need a Telltale Publishing megathread to put on that boat.

We're gonna need a bigger boat.

  • Price seems decent. 20$ U.S. (so 26ish CAD) The PC price is 15$ so that's kinda odd but it's not a huge change.

7 Days to Die is 30$ (40$ CAD)

  • Stranded Deep has been removed from the Playstation Store. The Xbox/Microsoft Store still has the page up, and you can still pre-order it.
The Telltale website still has their publishing page open, but the store option for PS4 leads nowhere.

This is weird. I was excited for the game.

  • I imagine none of the web team are still around to update/remove any pages on the site, so I would not put too much stock into what the website currently says.

    EDIT: Oops. Never mind!

I mistook Subnautica for the canned Stranded Deep console release. I thought there was a new date for it. Sorry.

A year and a half after the project was killed off alongside Telltale, the devs have finally reacquired the publishing rights and will be releasing it on consoles soon!

  • Great to hear! Heard these devs went to hell and back getting these rights.

  • To anyone who cares, Stranded Deep is releasing on consoles later today! (April 21st)

Just a heads up that the devs finally got the rights back after Telltale's closure, and finally worked out a release for consoles on their own terms. Bravo, Beam Team!
Ahhh... another chapter on Old Telltale's legacy can now be closed.

(Personally, I am interested in the game, as I've heard it was a pretty decent PC survival experience. Not getting it on release though. Just letting you guys know.)
