Season 2 Episode 2 VS. Season 4 Episode 2. Which one is the best?
Both episodes are similar.
- they both have an returning character from season 1
- in both episodes, characters are getting kidnapped at the end by the villains.
(And both have the same credits song)
So which one is the best? I personally think s2 Ep2 is better.

God that's a good one. Cruel decision.
I mean Season 2 episode 2 stands as one of my favorite episodes of all time. Along with Season 1 episode 2. I guess TT has a thing with episode 2s being home runs lol.
TFS EP2 has one of my favorite scenes in TT history with Clem and Violet star gazing. It's so precious and special and the Kenny easter egg just makes it all complete.
But S2 EP2 had the whole back and fourth between Kenny and Carver. The execution of carver. Much of the meat and potatoes of the season was in episode 2.
If I had to pick TFS EP2 is the winning. It established amazing bonds between two of my favorite characters ever. Reintroduced that wretched bitch Lilly and developed Abel quite a bit into a good villain. Lilly isn't quite as menacing as Carver, and Abel falls short but combine them together and they are close to Carver's evil. I think Lilly is even more evil. Carver was just better written.
Not having the boat god as a main role hurts as he was amazing in S2. But i'm gonna have to go on a wimb and say the side characters (espeically Tenn) in TFS are much much better and I love Violet so much it makes the season much more enjoyable.
Very close though.
Yeah, All That Remains is still one of the better episodes.
Eh, ANF(and maybe Michonne--it's been a while) are somewhat debatable, but I think that's somewhat fair for the most part.
It's Randy Tudor.
I suppose I can understand that.
That's because the former is clearly derived from the original "Kenny-Carver" plan and the latter is seemingly designed to resemble him.
Hrhrhrhhrhr...you're...not...wrooongu...?
Tough decision, but I would have to give it to A House Divided, but just barely. Maybe it’s my own personal bias towards Kenny and his return, but I think a lot of it deals with the introduction of Carver, who still remains one of my favorite villains in TWD, the climactic scene at the ski lodge, and seeing Clementine come into her own more, which was, I think, the overall point of Season 2.
A House Divided, imo, but Suffer The Children comes close. The return of Kenny was more memorable and emotional than Lily’s (you can blame the trailer for spoiling her return), Carver’s introduction was amazing, and the ski lodge raid kept me on the edge of my seat. Just for that, I find Carver’s Group way more intimidating than the Delta Group.
I agree with the above statement. Delta just doesn't seem intimidating to me and Lily seems underwhelming even without the spoiler.
Suffer the Children is still a fantastic episode though
A House Divided is such a classic episode. Kenny’s return was way better then Lily’s due to the leaks which lead Telltale to putting her in the trailer. A House Divided did such a good job of setting up the season while continuing that amazing atmosphere and tone that All That Remains had.
If say S4 ep2. I like S2 ep2. But the determinates don't really pay off in the end. S4 ep2 sets up ep3 differently for everyone. Instead of worry what's going to happen in S2 ep3, in S4 ep3 you're on the warpath
Ehhh, not really.
Violet/Louis taken has more variety than S2 ep2. Sure Alvin & Nick could be alive/dead. But their fates are the same at the end. Skybound Ama said that the determinates matter. So when you save Violet/Louis, they won't die the next episode like Alvin & Nick. So S4 ep2 is superior to S2 ep2.
There’s more stuff to do in S402, by far. Raising AJ, romancing, intense action in the final act, and other small things that were largely absent from Season 2. Off the top of my head, one such example is where you have history with your abductors, rather than it being some stranger who is really after a pregnant woman.
My point is that thus far, only A House Divided itself has truly pulled off the whole "starts differently" thing in any considerable way. Every other episode, including Episode 3 of TFS from what we have to go off, starts from more or less the exact same jumping back in standpoint, minus two or three noticeable differences at best.
Yeah, just like how shoving Abel or teaching AJ to only use a gun if necessary has mattered.
Look, I'd kinda like to believe that a bit, but almost everything else has set precedent for not getting one's expectations up, including the most recent episode.
I would hope not, considering they're pretty much THE main sources of people's investment with this game/story thus far.
Also, Nick doesn't die during In Harm's Way.
Sure he's in ep4, but he doesn't have any dialouge. You only get two minutes of interaction with him as a walker
You missed the reply button, but the point technically stands.
He wasn't really of concern though.
I guess, he's more background than character in ep4. And that bugged me that he died after promising Pete that you would look after Nick once he's dead from his bite
Yeah.
But as I was saying, he and to an extent Alvin wasn't of concern to what we were talking about because their situation is a different deal from how Louis and Violet are.
My main point is that S4 ep2 is better than S2 ep2 because it sets up the third episode better. Plus S4 has more intriguing characters than S2 in my opinion.
You know what I find even funnier? All Nick does in episode 4 is grunt after he gets shot, and make walker noises. But here's the thing: all of those are reused sound files.
Nick literally gets no new lines in episode 4. At all. Not only does he just not talk in the episode period, his grunt is reused from an earlier episode, and the walker sounds are just generic zombie noises they've used before.
On topic though, this is actually a tough question. Both of these episodes are definitely within my top 5. I think I'd give it to A House Divided, but just barely. There's a lot of great moments in both episodes, some I like more in one episode than I do the other. But from an overall standpoint, it'd be Season 2, but by the smallest margin. They're still practically tied for me.
I get what your saying. I wasn't really invested into the S2 group in ep2. They were just people I was traveling with. Some of the group still hated you, Rebecca/Carlos. In S4 I feel an obligation to protect the group since they don't have strong survival skills. They can kill walkers but they've never had to fight people. Plus you get to romance and S4 ep2 plays out differently depending on how you raise AJ.
I just loved S2 ep2. First: it had Kenny, which was both unexpected, and leads to multiple great moments in the story (I.e. my favorite ship, crowbar x carver or carvbar). Secondly, it doesn’t have Jane in it. That’s an A+ for me. And finally, it makes you have to be careful. Even if ‘oh yur chorces drnt mattr hr hr hr’ you have to be careful to avoid having Alvin be killed, Nick being killed,, and some more less important plot points, when in season 4 ep 2 the only hardish questions where violet over Louis in romance and saving. The latter wasn’t even hard, because you already romanced one person, so why not save them? That’s my reason anyways.
Wow, so that's how it is. Just make the cast full of idiots and boom, you care for them.
Oooh, fun!
Not really.
AJ feels justified/AJ feels regret. Abel has one arm/two arms.
Louis gets shot/violet gets shot.
Romance Louis/violet.
Save louis/violet.
Episode has variety.
P.s who pissed in your cereal bud?
Violet doesn't get shot. It's either both Louis and Lee-Lee that get shot or none of them. But yeah, they should have make Lilly shot Violet instead of Louis.
If you spend time with louis. And act mean towards Lilly when she has you at gun point. Violet tackles Lilly and gets shot in the arm.
Thing is, much of that 'variety' doesn't actually mean much aside from cosmetic differences. And like @DabigRG said:
The devs had a chance to prove themselves with Abel. All we needed was a few acknowledgments from his part. But no. And romance shouldn't be what makes an episode good. unless its a focal part of the story. And if it is, that's dissapointing, and it really is what this game has coem to, huh? The romance is pretty much the same as the way you can get two different scenes at the beginning of the episode. So really, the two episodes are quite tied I'd say. But Carver, Kenny, Walt and to a lesser but still more important than everyone in TFS thus far (except Best Friendos Vi and Lou of course) Sarah, Luke, Nick, and Pete make this episode better.
One of your complaints about Season 2's cast was that it felt like they were just some people you were travelling with. So what's TFS? Oh, they're not as skilled as Clem so you have an obligation to protect them. But does that make them better than S2 cast? Great cast of characters there, defo better than S2. In Telltale games, characters always feel on the same level. But with TFS, a horrible new prospect is introduced; side characters. Louis and Violet are the only ones, not even Tenn. And I'll admit S2 didn't do a good job with really fleshing out those characters and some were left out, but it aligned with the story, and perhaps the deciding factor - they felt like fully realised characters. Literally everyone else aside from Louis and Violet in the school are side characters, and because bad writing has screwed them over and we're halfway through the story, so despite any attempts that may or may not be made in the future to 'realise' them, I fear it's already too late.
So no, in my humble opinion the cast of S2 is better and the amount of variety in Ep 2 of both seasons is actually quite similiar as you praised things that don't actually matter like Abel's arm, AJ's willingness to learn (which just barely comes across and otherwise remains as 'I'll try, but I have yet to show you of my learning and btw I want dibs on Abel') and let's talk about how I was condescending to AJ in my whole playthrough, telling him off whenever I could and leaning pretty much 100% to the schoolers side, but Mitch still went 'can you believe this? Choices don't even matter!' and we got exiled. Saving Louis and Violet doesn't match with what happened in A House Divided though, it rather matches with All That Remains. And how I explained, romance doesn't really matter and if it does that's horrible (think non-shippers) and I hope it remains a side activity. I guess it's cool, but smoking/drinking was way more fu- nah, I changed my mind. And then you've got the crap villains who fall shorter than even the Save Lots bandits, and the terribly choppy ANF-esque action scene at the end.
Didn't know about that. Thanks.
You can see the blood on her left arm. Just look it up fam
It certainly seems like this is what they were trying to do with the cabin group, eh?
haha
Eh...that's a hazy field to cross from either side, so cessation to break even.
Actually, the episode was pretty infamously/clearly trying to have them ease up on Clementine and grow to trust her after Carver found the Cabin.
Also, technically, Carlos didn't really seem to dislike Clementine herself, from what I remember.
Again, funny you say that considering TFS is running on an abridged version of Season 2's premise.
Actually, you know, I'm actually in disagreement there--Louis getting hit there makes for a nice touch that Violet simply couldn't have had an effective take on here.
Tryin to decide if I should laugh at this or not.
Uh, no she doesn't...?
We can go check, but I think they would've brought attention to that.
Look it up on YouTube or replay the episode. If Lilly tries to shoot Clem after she fell of the balcony, the bullet hits violet in the arm. I'm being serious, look it up
So I'm looking at the scene and while she doesn't get shot in the arm, there is what appears to be a dark shadow-mark on the back of her right shoulder when she's on Lily. I tried looking getting a look at it from different angles both before & after this moment and I honestly can't tell if that's something that's actually there at that point or if it's just an odd shadow of her vest-hoodie thing.
What's weird about that either way is that not only is it seemingly not there in other shots, but the angle Lily has the rifle pointed and the one Violet hits her from respectively don't line up with this notion, if that is indeed the intention.
When Louis gets shot by abel it leaves a mark. If he doesn't get shot by abel. Louis can get shot by Lilly and get the same mark on his coat
Wait, I thought we were talking about Violet?
Really now?
I'm saying Louis can get shot by lilly. Violet can get shot the same way. Trust me, I've played the episode more than once to test my theory
Ywah, well I think we need someone else more informed and resourceful to come along and comment on this.
I mean, if you've seen the video of Violet tackling Lilly as her gun went off you can see the bullet wound in Violet's arm clear as day. And if you can't see it I don't know what to tell ya
