I wonder how game developers go about hiring face and body models to base their characters on. Like do they contact a talent agency and shift through a thousand faces until they find the ones they like, or do they put out a call and have people come in so they can get their faces inspected up close.
Anyways, I found this interesting article which reveals one of the reasons why Jun Ji Hyun wanted to to join the "Kingdom" show.
Jun Ji Hyun 'Kingdom: Ashin of the North' is among the newest cast members to join the hit zombie series as the titular character Ashin. As she is one of the industry's top stars, many were intrigued about her casting and the role she would play in the series.
Jun revealed that she is a fan of the ‘Kingdom’ series, and the work of scriptwriter Kim Eun Hee. "When I had the opportunity to meet her privately, I asked her personally if I could appear, even if it was just as a zombie," she said.
It was this request that seemingly set the ball rolling. Jun went on to add, "I worked hard because I was nervous about joining a series that everyone, including myself, loves."
The actress will step into the shoes of Ashin's character, a person who struggles with lots of inner suffering and masks it with her powerful and dangerous traits.
Moreover, Kim Eun Hee, the scriptwriter of the series, appreciated Jun's efforts in portraying a very different role than usual. Kim said, "Jun Ji Hyun -sshi is an actress with a broad spectrum. She has been nicknamed the ‘Queen of Romantic Comedies,’ but she has played dark characters in ‘Assassination’ and ‘Berlin.' I was worried that she wouldn’t accept the casting offer, but I am grateful that she took on the role of Ashin.''
Jun hilariously pointed out how she did not realize that there would be a child actress portraying a young Ashin. The actress felt worried, assuming she would have to act out a young character too.
"When I first received the script, I wasn’t informed that there would be a child actress. I thought that I would have to portray the character from start to finish, so I felt a little burdened."
"Not only did I have a hard time thinking about the difficult emotions I’d have to express, but I also wondered if I would be able to pull it off. Seeing such a young actress portraying Ashin and digesting the role was shocking," she said at the press conference.
I can't totally answer that, but I can give you something of an answer...
Ninja Theory's Hellblade had their in-house video editor become the main actress, simply because of her performance while testing the various pieces of tech and makeup as they were developing the game.
Fun fact: Naughty Dog is kind of in the same position.
The face model for Abby is actually someone who used to be one of Naughty Dog's Support Visual Effects Artists -- Jocelyn Mettler. She provided the face while she was still working at the company. I'm not sure how that came to be, but I imagine it might be similar to Hellblade's case above.

Ummmm, I don't know what to think. Is this really necessary? Because I already own the original on PC and it's still playable by today's standards. The only thing I can hope for is that it's not a shot-for-shot remake, they change some of the story elements and give Isaac Clarke a voice role.
She just approaches the head writer, expecting to get a bit part in the series, then through either a good conversation (or maybe she was fast-tracked to the main audition roles), she gets offered the main part in the movie special.

Hmm, how to get back on a normal, non-controversial topic.
Well, I played one of the toughest golf courses in the entire country (Bethpage Black), a course that has hosted two US Opens (one of which was one by Tiger Woods) and a PGA Championship, and had what was possibly one of the best rounds of golf I have ever played in my life. Shot an 84 (+13), which, considering the overall difficulty of this course, is definitely something I can walk away proudly with. Not to mention that the course hosted the NY State Open the week prior, so it was in even tougher conditions than usual, and that’s saying something.
I knew thing thing about Abby but didn’t know about this with Hellblade. That’s wild! Can’t imagine thinking you’re only going to be a temp but end up doing such a good job that you get hired to be the lead role. I should really get around to playing Hellblade.
I can't totally answer that, but I can give you something of an answer...
Ninja Theory's Hellblade had their in-house video editor become… more the main actress, simply because of her performance while testing the various pieces of tech and makeup as they were developing the game.
There's also this Dev Diary too about modeling the face

“Cube crawls” in which male employees would get drunk, make their way through the cubicles and harass female employees, delegate their responsibilities to the women in order to play video games, not promoting female employees because they might get pregnant, making rape jokes, dehumanising women, etc. That’s not even the worst f it. One employee ended up taking her own life during a company retreat after being “subjected to intense sexual harassment prior to her death, including having nude photos passed around at a company holiday party.”
What the fuck???
Blizzard has since put out a statement defending the company, claiming that the DFEH are distorting or falsifying outdated information and that “the picture the DFEH paints is not the Blizzard workplace of today.”
Considering that there are now former employees coming out in solidarity and how detailed the allegations are from the case file(?), which can be found in the link at the bottom of the article, and that very specific people are being named, I find it hard to believe that this is fake, especially since it’s coming from an official government agency.
I hope something good comes from this but after Riot and Ubisoft, I have doubts that anything major will really happen.
lupin is it hard being so based and epic and cool and handsome literally every second of the day or does it just come naturally to a total chad such as yourself
Having three queer characters in a game is considered unbalanced? What does that even mean? Is the exchange rate of one LGBTQ+ character equ… moreal to ten straight characters? Does that mean a game can’t exceed more than one gay character or it breaks some sort of arbitrary limit?

Finished watching Kingdom: Ashin of the North and I loved it. It tells an origin story for the next villain of the show who is gonna appear in Season 3. It's not very action packed but you definitely learn where the specific character is coming from and what their motivation is.
If you haven't checked it out, click on the recent Google Doodle.
To coincide with the Tokyo Olympics, Google has made a Japanese-themed videogame about a few small sports like climbing, table tennis, swimming, among other fun stuff.
The BEST part is that it's a very sizable game. This isn't a "5-minutes and done" kind of Doodle. It's surprisingly big. There's the sports minigames, a team leaderboard, quests to undertake, NPCs to talk to, trophies to win, a little island world to explore... I'm seriously impressed by this.
Not to mention, there's some gorgeous and adorable animated cutscenes, as well as a fun soundtrack.
I follow Qumu on Youtube -- he regularly makes covers of iconic video game tracks -- and good for him, Google got him to make the soundtrack for this game!
holy shit, the little animal portraits are so cute
It's scandalous, and it has been heartbreaking to look at female game developers come forward and share their own stories, only to be on the receiving end of "am I supposed to just take your word for it? Name him or it didn't happen" just completely stupid comments that lack any form of empathy or understanding into why they can't chant their abuser's name.
It makes me wonder, why is it when it is a female that is on the receiving end of abuse, it's always "you mistaken someone asking you out as sexual harassment, you want attention, people only kept their eye on you and never left you alone because you were bad at your job" just comments that display such a level of distrust into the account? If I remember correctly, these cases don't tend to go into the favour of women and a lot of these cases do go unreported leaving them to carry that trauma for the rest of their lives.
Do people have the capacity to lie? Yes, but in a case like this, when the result is most likely not going to go in their favour, why would they lie? I just don't get how when it's a woman, it's "all for attention", but when it's a man, it's "I'm awful sorry", I mean, I agree with the approach towards men that have experienced sexual assault, but my point is the response to sexually assaulted women is the polar opposite. Does that not show that a lot of the gaming community are sexist? Why the hate for women??
And like, I see people say "why's this only coming out now, years after the fact?" not everyone is capable of expressing freely the trauma they experienced like it's a trivial subject like the price of bread being increased in the supermarket, it's literally a life-altering experience and everyone takes their own time to come to terms with what they experienced, some never do, it's horrifying for them, it's horrifying in general.
Sometimes it takes seeing others who are brave enough to come forward for people to then come forward with their accounts.
Sexual assault victims shouldn't be asked 20 questions by internet detectives, and the majority be absolutely stupid questions like "what's their name?" (like what good is that going to do? The sexual assault cases are often dismissed, and naming the assaulter publicly leaves the assault victim liable for defamation), and way more often than not, there is truth to the statements of those who have experienced sexual assault. People should stop with the instant distrust as a way of being edgy and cool, it doesn't make you cool, and certainly doesn't make you edgy, it makes you a rather despicable human being. If anyone is wondering if I'm angry over this, damn right I am. And here, not that anyone would own up to it anyways as they know it's wrong, but if someone here took part in the victim shaming, and ridiculed these stories... don't talk to me, I don't want to know you, I don't want a piece of you, get out of my face, reconsider your life choices.
During one of my occasional visits to Tumblr for random opinions on things I'm familiar with, I decided to revisit YaYaH for the first time in a while to see what I might've missed before they evidently closed their asks. While there's obviously stuff you're not likely to see if you don't look for it, sometimes you stumble upon things that are new that sound familiar.

I am livid. World No. 1 golfer Jon Rahm has been kicked off the Olympic team for Spain because he has tested positive for Covid-19. Now you might be thinking “The Olympics are taking precautions, he tested positive and can’t let him compete and infect others.” That would be a fair point, except for one thing…HE TESTED POSITIVE 6 WEEKS AGO.
It was a heavily publicized incident. Rahm was competing at the Memorial Tournament, and after 54 holes, was winning by 6 strokes. After sinking his putt on the 18th green, shaking his partners hand, and walking off the green, he was stopped by the PGA and told in front of a crowd of hundreds and on live TV that he had tested positive, to which he fell to his knees and was absolutely crushed. The PGA was roundly criticized for their actions, and rightfully so, by not only waiting to tell him, but not escorting him to a private area to reveal it. He was forced to withdraw from the tournament, was barred from playing solo with no one else around to reduce the spread, and lost out on millions of dollars. Also, he was vaccinated.
6 weeks later, he’s being barred from the Olympics, denied a chance to compete for his country and a gold medal, because of the three tests he took before, one came back positive, the other two were negative. And the reason this is bull is not because he’s vaccinated, not because it’s pathetic that the Olympics cannot find a quarantine area for him to stay and make an accommodation for him to play without infecting anyone, but because people who have had Covid shouldn’t even be taking PCR tests again until 90 days after having Covid due to the increased likelihood of false positives. For 3 months after originally being infected, you can still test positive afterwards, even if you’ve developed the antibodies. So either the Memorial was a false positive and he lost out there, this is a false positive and he’s lost a chance to compete for his home country, or he’s just the unluckiest guy in the world. Whichever it is, it’s horseshit, and I feel so bad for Jon Rahm.
I am on vacation to stay in my homecountry for just 3 weeks. I plan to go to a beach, visit my father, my step-sister and make a reunion with my high school classmate. I thought I was gonna have a lot of good time in this summer because I did take my first dose of vaccine and even tested negative. And what does my country do? Lock me up in quarantine for 2 fucking weeks. And I just thought my country wouldn't be as bad as before but now I remember why I was glad to move to Netherlands. Those people are fucking morons. I understand they want everyone to be safe but they are too fucking sensitive about this shit and this just makes me want to punch someone responsible for this rule.
I never, EVER, got in contact with COVID ever in my life and even if the pandemic is settling down, they still support that fucking rule. Fucking cowards.
Alright motherfuckers, The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles releases on Tuesday and, let me just tell you, you will be unable to reach me on that date, I will be no life-ing my way through it. I fucking love that series. If you need me on that day? Sucks to be you, loser.
Since it released during the time I was active on the forums the most, I remember it quite well. But I guess it's harder to come upon a mention of it these days, since it's not on sale anymore.
It's definitely more memorable than the Guardians of the Galaxy game.
Remember it, used to be obsessed with it and now, I don't give a damn about it. I think it's obvious it was made only because of the show alone. Now because Game of Thrones Season 8 ruined everything and HBO gives no shit about the game, it will never get a sequel. The only good thing I can say is that it's more memorable than Guardians of the Galaxy. Let me ask you something, does anyone actually remember anything about that game?
Now because Game of Thrones Season 8 ruined everything
I dunno, maybe Season 2 of the game probably would've been better and the writers might have done it justice. People still prefer the game over the final season of the show.

I played it in Feb and was entertained, but that's only because it'd been a while (like most Telltale games for me lol). I'm with you though, it's more forgettable than Guardians - maybe that's just because of Poogers though.
I do. It's not an awful game either, but just, well, it's not rocking anybody's world. Shame too, there's some interesting ideas in there. I do forget Guardians though, even though I kind of liked that game too.
Sorry Chicken, but I remember a lot more from GOT that GOTG. When I’m having a tough time remembering the events and what happened in the episode, immediately after playing it, then how can it be memorable? I felt that way after almost every GOTG episode, nothing stuck out and just felt very bland. A bad game, like Life is Strange, I remember for how utterly terrible and disastrous it is in almost every facet. A game like GOTG is worse because there’s nothing that leaves a lasting impact.
It's definitely more memorable than the Guardians of the Galaxy game.
"least interesting TTG" Nah, that’s Guardians of the Galaxy
… more I can say is that it's more memorable than Guardians of the Galaxy.
You... You people can't mean that!
Guardians of the Galaxy just had no reason to exist. They wasted a lot of money on it. The Wolf Among Us Season 2 was their best opportunity to regain its fanbase after the shitfest that was A New Frontier and they blew it.

Why do you guys have to be so mean to each other . What a world we are lucky to live in, where we can argue about video games at length. Be. Nice.

After a two year investigation, Blizzard is being sued by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing over their “frat boy” work culture. The frat boy term really doesn’t do it justice honestly, because if all of this is true then holy fuck.

A bad game, like Life is Strange, I remember for how utterly terrible and disastrous it is in almost every facet. A game like GOTG is worse because there’s nothing that leaves a lasting impact.
Guardians of the Galaxy just had no reason to exist. They wasted a lot of money on it. The Wolf Among Us Season 2 was their best opportunity to regain its fanbase after the shitfest that was A New Frontier and they blew it.
I have far more fond memories with the GOTG game than I do with GOT, lmao
