Unable to flip switch 9!

Dear Telltale,

I have encountered a game stopping bug where in episode 3 on the train, after I activate switch 6 and 5 I head outside to the engine compartment to switch 9 it does not give me any interaction options. This is really a game stopper! I already tried rewinding but it keeps happening.

Please help me fix this.

    Same issue for me :(
Patch it please, sick of being stuck :(

Same thing here. Before you begin all of the other steps to start the train you can interact with the switch just fine, except that it only allows you to turn it one way. Once all of the other steps are complete then you can no longer interact with the switch on panel 9 at all.

I am having the exact same problem as everyone else. I set everything right with panel 6 and 5. I go to panel 9 and I have no cursor to activate it. I've replayed this multiple times and did rewind.

Not only is that a problem, but the notepad as well. After using the pencil and seeing how to start up the train, if I try to look at the notepad again, it glitches when I try to back out. I'd go to main menu and try to start up the game again, but it freezes and I have to hard boot my Xbox.

So switch 9 and the notepad have been a problem for me all night as I've been trying to find ways around it and I am completely unable to play now. =\

I joined the forum to raise this exact same problem - I am unable to flip switch 9, and am at the point now that I do not want to keep restarting until I know it is patched.

Not only has this ruined the game experience by breaking it, but as I have had to look on the web for any solutions it has inevitably spoiled some of the game for me as I have had to read some spoilers - I did expect this to happen, but hoped I could at least fix it in the process, but no success.

This needs to be patched asap please!!!!!!!

I thought this only happened to be but glad to see this has sprung up seeing as I always seem to find the game haulting glitches in many games(Borderlands 2, Skyrim, this game, etc.) Patch Please!

Same thing here with the notepad glitch. I thought I'd cheat the glitch by just not looking at the notepad anymore but maybe it is related to the switch 9 bug? I also tried rewinding 2 chapters and leaving lilly behind this time. Didn't make a difference.
I'm not going to play anymore until Telltale fixes this.

So now 2 topics full of people who are completely blocked from continuing there game. Telltale better get a solution for this fast because this is a far to serious bug to be ignored. I don't know if the latest patch has anything to do with it. I already tried deleting it but then you can't continue your save (probably because your save is on a higher game version after you played with the patch) So be warned, don't continue your game after clearing the xbox cache because it will reset you to the first episode (I was lucky I made a copy of my save game)

Same exact issue... and I just bought every episode at once. Its my first telltale game and this is pretty disappointing. Two days after buying a game I get a game-breaking glitch impossible to get by. Not only that but here is like 10 other people with the exact problem and not even a response. I wanted to play straight through, I wouldnt have bought all of these episodes if I knew I couldn't play half of them.

Same here can't get switch 9 to turn.
Interestingly this did work before the recent update but in my infinate wisdom i decided to rewind to try out some other verbal paths and of course I am now stuck here.

We have not encountered this issue before, but we are looking into it.

After activating switches 6 and 5 and heading to switch 9, can you back out and continue to move around the train? Did you have any issues with the notepad instructions in the cab before activating any switches?
  • edited December 2012
I also sent them an email about it at support@telltalegames.com.
I sent it yesterday but they haven't replied today. Not even that they recognise it or are looking into it or something. Nor did they say something on this forum. Not the best customer care if you ask me.
Maybe if everyone here emails them we get there attention more quickly.

When interacting with the console, if you look at the instructions, you will become unable to interact with the switches. If you go ahead and memorize the switch placements, after activating 6 and 5, switch 9 is no longer available to interact with. When the cursor is on the switch, nothing comes up. I have back up and changed my interactions with people in previous sections. I have talked to everybody and interacted with everything that you can interact with, but nothing makes switch 9 available.

Thanks for the information. Can you tell me what episodes you have installed? Do you have all 5 or just 1-3?

    1 thru 3

I realize I'm posting in multiple threads I'm just trying to help find a solution to this issue.

That's alright, I appreciate the quick response. We do have an unconfirmed theory that we are now testing and hopefully will have an update soon.

No Joke I am in the EXACT same situation as you.

Same issue here, i've been through this section four times now. Twice i glitched when looking at the notepad and then after memorizing the note, the icon on switch 9 was not there. (even though it was there before interacting with the notepad)
I also have only Eps 1-3 installed.

M1LO - Do you have all 5 episodes purchased only or all 5 installed? Did you install episodes 4 and 5 after playing Episode 3? If so, how far did you get before installing them? Have you uninstalled those episodes at any time?
  • edited December 2012
Yes, I was downloading 5 while playing through 3. But now all are downloaded and installed and I still get no icon on switch 9
  • edited December 2012
No I have not uninstalled any episodes. Like I said I was downloading as I played and last night I got stuck on this glitch about the same time I finished downloading 4&5. I am still getting nothing on that switch though and it still glitches out if I try to look at notepad

Since you have all 5 episodes installed, shut down and then restart the xbox, and then re-launch the game. We have just confirmed that if you do this, then load your save, you can continue playing normally.

This also works if you have episode 4 OR episode 5 installed, instead of both.
  • edited December 2012
Ok just made sure they are all installed. I'll try this and let you know.
  • edited December 2012
i only have 1-3 downloaded and cant see the 9 switch.. if i dl 4 and 5 your saying ill be able to see tge 9 switch?
  • edited December 2012
Yep, it's working now. I appreciate it.

Eddie, yes if you download 4 or 5 or both, confirm they are installed, and then restart your xbox, you will be able to continue past this point.

Thank you for looking into this Matt. Does your team plan on fixing this in the future for the people who might not be able to purchase all the episodes at once?

We are still investigating the cause of this issue. Luckily our QA team was able to determine a quick and simple workaround, but I do understand your concern. Hopefully we can isolate the cause of this problem in the near future.

Cheers guys, i downloaded ep 4, restarted my xbox and it worked. Thanks for the speedy help.

    I'll try it too.

don't really have any choice but to buy more content to fix my game, releasing a patch can take a long time, im not happy about this at all, episode 3 was laggy and "glitchy" up till it got game breaking... buying more doesn't feel good
  • edited December 2012
Matt, thats the ticket. you have to have at least 4 downloaded

Alright I'm going to try this tomorrow. Thanks for the workaround.

Edit: it worked for me :)

Well that's just great, except I don't have episodes 4 and 5. And quite frankly, why should I need to buy them to play the content I've purchased. I was enjoying the game until this, and I can't tell you how disappointed I am that I can't keep playing.

Matt - can you let me (and the others here) know when a fix will be available please? If it's not coming in the next few days, I'd like to know how I go about getting a refund or getting episodes 4 and 5 for free to make my ep 3 work. Thanks.

Unfortunately a fix will not be coming in the next few days. If you'd like to inquire about a refund, you will need to contact Microsoft's Xbox Support.
