Foul Language Filter

edited February 2013 in The Walking Dead
I've recently been playing the walking dead on the 360 and i really enjoy it but i was just curious if there is or will ever been a Foul Language Filter.I know a lot of people play this game including children ages around 14 and up,not mine obviously because i don't have any.I know it's a mature rated game but there should be an option for it in case your playing this around family or friends with underage kids.I'm not here to nag I'm just here to suggest an add on or update for the title. What's your thoughts?

i think the rating says it all, people can ignore it at their own risk
  • edited December 2012
children shouldn't play it... it is rated 17+
Filtering Foul language in case people ignore the rating is like asking a porn-distributor to pixelate the genitalia in case of children watching it.

yeah, especially because the age rating isn't only because of the foul language or even the gore it's just an adult themed game, you would have to remove the whole game to make it fit for children

There is no filter to disable "bad" language in the game. You do know that there is much worse stuff than mere swears in the game, right?

I think a foul language filter would cause you to miss about half the dialogue. =P

I'd recommend a set of headphones and leave the subtitles off.

    Definitely.

Honestly, I haven't met anyone age fourteen or older who has a problem with swearing. :/ I'm fifteen and the language doesn't bother me at all. In fact, it bothers my mom more than it does me.
  • edited December 2012
Fuck that. It's a mature game and parents bear responsibility for what their children are exposed to or not, as they choose.
  • edited December 2012
Disable swearing in the game? Never gonna happen... Like other people said, it's rated 17+, so people under that age shouldn't be playing it anyway.

Btw, there are no bad words, only bad context.

Well... You bash dead people's heads in, let people die at your whim and can be a real ass to the people around you - but God forbid you hear the dreaded F-word!

    To paraphrase Kenny:

    Fuck, fuck, fuck FUUUCK!

When you play a game that has themes including rape, mutilation, death, suicide, et cetera foul language shouldn't really be a priority...
  • edited December 2012
There is a foul language filter. It's called the mute button.

I mean, come on, half of TWD's dialogue is fuck shit fuck fuck shit etc, etc.... as seen in a recent video......

Telltale did have a swear filter before in Poker Night at the Inventory, but Poker Night was a...strange game.

But yeah, it wouldn't work in The Walking Dead. If you're playing an M-rated game, you should expect something that's not for kids. Especially since profanity does play a (minor) role in the story, specifically how Clementine feels about you.

Besides, all the violence in this game and you're offended by the profanity? :p
  • edited December 2012
Yea it's the zombie apocalypse after all. It just wouldn't feel right if they translated "Fucking shit we are totally fucked!" to "Darn it, we are unpleasantly disadvantaged."

    QFT.

If you want something tailored to your kids but marketed to grown-ups, go see the Hobbit.

A game with blood and mutilation abound in which no one swears might be totally normal in the US, but gets big laughs internationally, as the random bigotry is seen in greater contrast.

there is no fucking reason to have a god damn language filter

So typical of the US......I swear some people in our country are such prudes ~_~()

Honestly consider the themes of this game in general as well as the fact that it's rated M. Obviously at the end of the day it falls to the parent to decide what their children can and can't handle. I could never understand the mindset of folks worried about language. It always seems that there's at least one person who has no problem with kids seeing violence, implied rape, ect. However if they witness the dreaded F-word or their first female nipple THEN THE END TIMES ARE UPON US!

Look.....TWD in all forms is for mature viewers/readers/players. That goes for anything rated M/R/TV-MA or whatever the equivalent is where you live. If your kids can handle adult themes without it messing them up then more power to them. A smart parent knows when a child is old enough/smart enough to be able to handle things like that and be able to separate it from reality. However if you aren't the least bit concerned about the extreme violence and are more concerned about the language then perhaps it might be time to rethink your life and your priorities.

And since I'm sure people are likely wondering I'm 27. My first R rated movie was Die Hard 3 the summer it came out (just shy of my 10th birthday). I knew it was a movie and at the end of the day just because I watched Bruce Willis be a total badass that didn't mean I was suddenly going to grab the nearest pistol or shout the famous "Yippie Kay Yay!" line at my teachers in school on Monday morning :P

    Bottom line/TLDR:
If you're concerned about a child hearing the language in this or any other M/R rated game or film then they aren't ready for it PERIOD. Even if there wasn't a single F-bomb in the product in question that also means they shouldn't be experiencing anything else that would warrant such a rating in the first place (violence, sex, ect)

Also for the record: new user, just joined yesterday and this is his/her only post......$20 says this was an attempt to troll and see what kind of reaction they got.

If so then well played I guess. You got me to bite and make that rant after all :-/

From all the disgusting shit that happens he only cares about the cussing. o.ô
  • edited January 2013
Who cares about gore, murder, implied sex, child deaths and alcohol, just censor a bunch of cuss words and it's okay for the younger ones.

I think Clementine was the filter ("swear").

Quit being such a pussy. 14 and up are not children, they're teenagers and they already know profanity exists. It's not some traumatic revelation. Goddamn. Even little kids already know about profanity (even in the game world, ala Clementine) so why hide it?

Bunch of wusses in this world...

I dunno why TWD does not have the filter.Pocker night in the inventory does have.
  • edited January 2013
Poker Night at The Inventory featured characters like Strong Bad and Max, which generally prefer to stay away from insults, either just subtly referencing them or just going with the simple method of bleeping them out. Strong Bad in this case, used the method of "Subtly referencing them". (Only at one point swearing in Poker Night at The Inventory, something that has been bleeped out, whether you have the filter off or not.)

But nevertheless, if some kid misses Homestar Runner and found out there's a game called "Poker Night at The Inventory" which has Strong Bad in it, and he would find out he plays a game in which Strong Bad's sitting right next to a dude who has a tendency to swear a lot, well, that's what the word filter is for. TWD doesn't have Winnie the Pooh, or whatever kid friendly character you can imagine in it, and it has absolutely no reason to be censored. :P

Here's your reason. Now you know.

People are dying and you're more concerned about the swearing? o .o
  • edited January 2013
"The Walking Dead" should say it all.Or the word Zombie.Come on people lol.I didnt get to see Jaws until i was 16.:)

If they DID have a filter you'd either hear Quote of 2012 or you'd be sick of the bleep noise.
But seriously, never before had I ever heard so much cursing in a video game. It puts South Park to shame.
    But it feels completely real.

House of the Dead: Overkill had a lot more swearing. And there was a Scarface game which dedicated a button to swearing.

If they cut all the swears out this game would have like 25% less dialogue. :p

ROFL, love all the judgmental ******* responses here.

The answer to your question is no, there is no language filter. If you want one, you should make it known to telltale so they know there is consumer interest in that type of feature.

Opinionated, however, this being a public forum that's kind of expected. If people didn't have an opinion there wouldn't be a forum. Your comment was judgmental.

No need to take it personally, mate. How about we just answer the question without passing judgment on the guy.

Oh, I don't know, maybe because it's a game where horrific things occur, which are definitely rated R, but instead of requesting a violence and gore filter, he's more shocked by the language?

That doesn't seem askew to you at all?

    Jokes aside:

Yes, it's an unpopular opinion. And yes, this is a kind of paradox idea that seems to be at home in only one country in the world. And we being a rather international community, it is inevitable that eyes pop and words of (hopefully only) surprise are spoken.

The claim still stands that foul language is an integral part of the hard and cruel world of the Walking Dead, and only the popular TV series likes to tell us otherwise for obvious reasons - censorship reasons.

The designers have decided to add swearing to their game, and I guess it was a pretty conscious decision. In other adventure games the conscious decision was not to do it (a notable example is the original Maniac Mansion, where Tim Schafer wanted to put swearing in just for the heck of it and seemed to have been stunned by the simple question: "Does it add anything?"). I can respect both decisions.

In any case, the last thing we need here is an exchange of insults on the topic of swearing. ;)
