How long did lee survive? (Spoilers)

edited July 2013 in The Walking Dead
So I have a topic I've thought about quite alot. It is How long did Lee survive into the apocalypse. If by episode two they are three months in, then in episode three is probably a few weeks after then when they escape and the events up to episode five is all kind of close together, like a few days to a week. Also when Russel finds Carley/Doug's body at day 180 and it is rotted but not to bad. Do you think it's safe to say that Lee only survived about 125-160 days.
And do you think this makes the cast from 400 days better survivors or just placed under different circumstances that allowed them to survive.

It's estimated that Lee lived to about Day 120 into the apocalypse

VERY different circumstances. They weren't in Savannah. Actually, Macon would probably be safer since the herd followed the train to Savannah.

I think it shows that Vince and Wyatt are better survivors since we see them the earliest.

Based on Russel's story I feel his group kept him alive.

Bonnie - not 100% sure, but I think Leland and Dee carried her along till she got it together. Based on the story though, she clearly has a survival instinct.

Shel..... hard to tell. She clearly did something right, but the RV she's got may as well be a tank when you compare it to a walker.

I believe that too. But I thought it was a good topic to talk about so I brought it up to see some other opinions too.

According to my calculations Lee died on the night of day 108. That's assuming that he crashed on day 2 like some people are saying, that he was knocked out until day 3, and "the three months" that passed entered us into the fall and lasted 92 days.
  • That makes sense. If they crashed on day 2 that means he was on his way to jail at the same time Vince was on his way to Prison. And from the Prison bus you see Shel and her sister running from zombies before the bus gets attacked and Vince escapes. Meanwhile, The police car Lee is in crashes and rolls down the hill. Lee is woozy and sees blurred images of people walking outside and hears muffled screaming from the officer. Lee passes out. That gives the zombies time to leave the area (if he woke up immediately, he wouldn't have gotten out alive cause they were right outside previously). Turning times vary (look at the show. Shane turn instantly, while Amy turned the next day). Clementine spent 'days' by herself. Her babysitter was a zombie and she was hiding in her tree house. The answering machine messages spread a cross 2 days. So we can assume Clementine's dad w as bitten during day 1 or day 2. Then the infection got worse that night. Then the following morning he died and Clem's Mom left that last desperate message to her daughter. The message cuts off (assuming answering machine has time limit.... or Clem's dad reanimated and killed his grieving wife). Being unconcious over night also explains Lee waking up and the first thing he says is "Thirsty..."

  • In episode two, Kenny was shot in the side, at point blank range, by a bolt action hunting rifle. That's a very serious wound! In episode three, he's making a supply run with Lee.

A gunshot wound like that takes weeks - to months to recover from, to the point of being able to do what Kenny was able to do in episode 3. Realistically, no matter how tough a person is, the body needs time to rest and heal after a serious injury like that.

In spite of the fact that Kenny says the incident with the station wagon happened last week, when he's standing on top of the trailer at the drugstore.

The events that happened later in episode 3, 4, and 5 took place over a period of three - to four days.

I'll break it down for you.

It was late in the day when Kenny and Lee came back to the motel from the drugstore, early morning when the group met Chuck.

In the afternoon when they met Omid and Christa.

Early morning to mid afternoon when they arrived in Savanah.

Nighttime when the infiltrated Crawford Early morning to late afternoon when they got back to the mansion.

And morning when Clementine was taken.

  • Based on what little lore we have, we know the news of the infection first started in late July or Early August. We know this from the Xmas one-shot of Duane, and Morgan. Morgan says, on what he assumes to be Christmas Eve, "It's been almost 5 months since all this started." We also know from Lore that the first winter after the infection was an extremely bad one. Snow as far south as Atlanta stayed there for a prolonged amount of time, and began sometime in December. For context, in the South a blanket of snow staying for more than a couple weeks is pretty rare, and it usually doesn't experience snow fall until mid-late January. Since there is no snow present in Season One we have to assume that Lee didn't survive until December. Using basic math we can assume that most of Season 2 takes place around late October - November.

  • Oh wow. Just found the timeline on the wiki. I'm surprised how close I was. According to that, the outbreak began on July 18th, and Lee died on November 1st or 2nd (Day 105-106).
