I see your point, but don't be surprised if two characters are talking and you don't know wtf about - just 'cause its a prequel it doesn't mean that it'll spoon-feed or info-dump all the juicy lore...

Absolutely. I'd be really surprised and disappointed if it was that way. However, in skillful storytelling, there's absolutely no need to dump a lot of info about characters on the player. There are so many more subtle ways of exposition. Just wait and see.
I haven't read it, and frankly I don't feel the need to.
And just as many of you have said, there may be villainous characters that turn evil through the progression of the Telltale game. So readers of the comic would know that something bad happens to them, affecting their choices since they probably wouldn't like him.
Just a heads up, the Fables Encyclopedia is coming out Oct 29th. It's about 20. If anyone wants a good foundation, I suspect the Encyclopedia should provide.
I'll probably do the same. Well, I probably won't buy the encyclopedia, but I'll likely get into the comics after I've played the game, like I did after playing Telltale's Bone games.

No I've never even heard of them until a few months ago, but judging from the trailer it looks interesting. who is the battered woman? I can smell romance in the air for her and the wolf.
Well, he's not supposed to be likable, he's the Big Bad Wolf. He's very gruff and aggressive. He get more likable later on.
I think playing Bigby as a character, you immediately see much more of the shit he goes through because everyone has these preconceived notions of him. There's a fair degree of tension between doing his job as sheriff and figuring out how to navigate relationships and basically interact with people, something that's he's still getting used to. It's in the comics as well for sure, just takes a little longer to shine through.
I have no doubt that we'll see a lot of Bigby's character progression and struggle in the game. Im very excited for that. I actually enjoy the character very much in the comic. He started being the villain but you kind of learn to understand why and when he actually has something to change for, he puts his all into it. He's no saint but I think he does have a good heart. I cant wait to play as Bigby when the game releases. Hopefully maybe some others if there are sequels. Maybe as Jack?

I just read Legends in Exile on my iPad (thanks again holisk for pointing out the sale ).
That was great. I liked Bigby. He was rough around the edges, but he still seemed like he legitimately wants to be reformed. He's the classic anti-hero, like Han Solo or Malcolm Reynolds.
It now makes me want to play The Wolf Among Us even more.
Comixology (digital comic platform) just made this week's sale to be on the Fables series! This means the main series (Fables #1-130), Cinderalla (she is an awesome character in the series) centric series (Both Fables are Forever and From Fabletown with Love), Jack of Fables (no opinion. Never read it), and Fairest (basically spin-off of Fables focusing on their female characters).
It does not have some of the spin off ie 1001 Nights.
My advice is to get the first 5 issues and Fables: The Last Castle so you can get the gist of the Fables series. The Last castle shows parts of the battle going on in the Homelands as suggested in the first 5 issues. Given how this game is a prequel, I see no reason WHY you should go past the first five but there are supposedly going to allusion to events in the comic.
Given how this sale is happening, I really think something might happen this week!
I have read them all including a wolf in the fold which I thought would of been bigger but still liked it and by all I mean fables not the side stuff like jack or Cinderella but I have read everything with bigby or family in it

I have read around 50 comics and I must say that the Series is Awesome. Really love the Alternate Reality of some well known Fairy Tale Characters. I'm really looking forward to playing as Bigs.
Started reading volume 1 the other day, it's getting me super pumped for the game. I'm glad they are making it a prequel, that makes it way easier to get into.
I haven't read the comics and to me it seems that they did succesfully what Grimm and Once Upon a Time are now trying to do on TV, although Fables seems to be directed for more mature audience than those TV-shows. I ended up pre-ordering the game without knowing the series, because I enjoy other TTG adventures and Vertigo comics (I really like Hellblazer, The Books of Magic and The Sandman). Hopefully I end up enjoying Fables (both game and comics) as much as I did enjoy those other titles.
I should state that there debates about a Fables TV show but that was replaced by Once Upon a Time. This led to a long community issue saying that Once Upon A Time stole their ideas from Fables.

I agree, I never really heard of the Fables Series till I saw this game. I am drawn to it mostly based on the previews that it is a Mature Noirish Story set in a fairy tale universe. There was a game a few years ago called "Emerald City Conidential" which was a "Teen Friendly" Noir Story set in the Land of OZ, which this reminded me of. Last real Noirish Game I played before that was the Tex Murphy Series. Good Story is what i look for, so lets see if a total Newbie to the Universe can understand it. Time will tell
