The crash is caused by your integrated graphics chip, which doesn't meet the minimum requirements.
Intel graphics chips are not recommended and they don't work well with TTG's games.

Sadly no. Since it's usually not possible to upgrade the graphics chip of a notebook, I can only suggest you to try playing on a different computer with a dedicated graphics card.

  • Same problem for me, except I more than meet the requirements. Crashing for me on a fully updated Windows 8.1 x64 without any joysticks or game controllers, too. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/307099/TWAU_support_data_pc.zip

Please try verifying the game cache files first.

The only strange thing I notice at the moment is the location of your documents folder. Let's try something.
Please create a new Windows user account with only characters from a-z and try if the game works.
If it still crashes, please run the support tool in that account.

  • Actually fixed it by deleting my TWAU preferences file in my documents, then disabling steam cloud, launching the game, and reenabling steam cloud.

The engine changes a bit with almost every TTG game, resulting in different requirements, and with Intel chips it's hit or miss in general.

    You also have Intel graphics.

Crashes for me too. My data: http://www.sendspace.com/file/k0efjf

This is from your crash event log. igdumd32.dll is a file from your graphics driver, meaning this crash is definitely related to your intel graphics.

If you post the support tool info of your friends laptop (or at least the dxdiag info), i can take a look as to why it works on his, but it's most likely that he does have AMD or Nvidia graphics. Should that not be the case, it would be even more interesting, though there are a few models of Intel graphics chips that seem to work better with some of TTG's games. I don't have a list or anything though, i just saw it every now and then on this forum.

Ok, thanks for the help anyway. I really feel like there should be some kind of warning on Steam etc that warns you when your PC/Laptop can't run a game you want to buy. Would've saved me a tenner.

I don't see any crash events. Also you seem to have savegames further into the game.
Did the game work up to a certain point on this notebook?
If so, at what point does it crash?

Please also check if the game crash creates an entry in the
event viewer in the "Windows Logs/Application" section.
If so, right click the entry, select "copy the details as text", and paste them in a new reply.

  • I am having the same issue and i cannot download the support tool when i click on it it does nothing. i would like to know why it does that with this game and TWD because if its truly because i have an intel graphics chip that really sucks that i just spent 24.99 on a game i cannot play.

  • DjNDBDjNDB Moderator

There are support tools for TWD and TWAU.
The downloads should definitely work at this time.
    Which browser do you use?

  • I'm right after the part where you have to decide between going to Toad or Lawrence first. I decided to go to Lawrence, but then the game stopped working and crashed to the desktop. I can't load that save file now since it automatically crashes.

It was also crashing when I tried to talk to the magic mirror and select "Faith's father" as an option. I just avoided clicking that option and the game worked just fine, until it started crashing again when I made my decision.

I've made sure the game is in compatibility mode with Windows 7 and I running it as an administrator, but nothing seems to be working.

That's a known crash on Intel Graphics. That's why Intel graphics chips are not recommended for TTG's games.

  • Just for instance, i have a Lenovo yoga 13 (with Intel HD 4000) and played it, as i had win8 installed... now it crashes after every start, having win8.1 installed.

If you did an upgrade instead of a fresh installation for Win 8.1, it might have installed different drivers, so that's something you could look into.
